www.kotaku.com

"...We only have ideas but we have been assessing next-generation consoles such as Sony's Playstation 3... We have not decided the console yet... Silent Hill 1 to 3 have all been multi platform appearing on either Playstation 3, Xbox or PC. This was when we were working at DVD level with no HD needed. Mutli-Platform will be discussed but nothing is certain yet... The Xbox 360 is definatly a candidate. However the sales are Japan are unimpressive. It does have a large installed based in the West though which will be looked at... This by no means says we will not consider the idea [putting it on the Wii] but the general opinion is that Wii is for family games, and I'm sure the fans don't play Silent Hill with their grandma! ...Nintendo Wii would be easier to make for but the control scheme would be hard to implement in a Silent Hill game."

Ouch. Thoughts?

I think it's just an objective observation. If this is mostly used as family console, I understand their point, and making silent hill 5 for the wii wouldn't be good for business. That's just what comes with the image. Just like how xbox and xbox 360 get an overload of shooters.

After all the stories people have told me about how they play the Wii with family members, I don't think anyone should be shocked at this kind of comment. Even if he's not technically "right" and SH5 could sell decently on the Wii...could you blame him for having that sort of perception?

No... but developers need to know that these kind of games will sell well on Wii too. Not EVERYONE that bought a Wii bought it for Wii Sports/Play.

don't tell sony this... but SH 5 being exclusive to the PS3 might make me want to get one. MGS 4 alone isn't enough... but i'm a HUGE SH fan.

I do hope to God it comes out for the 360 though... it would sell like hot cakes here in the states.

just my feelings.

Agreed. I'm also a bit worried about how well Manhunt 2 will do. I'm rooting for it to do well, to have Rockstar developing more for Wii, but... that's just insanely gory.

I managed to decipher the true message of the developer, it reads as follows:

'Well then, it seems my mind is too feeble to implement Wii controls in Silent Hill despite a glaring potential for greatness. Instead I shall make patronising and wholly unfounded comments about the a millions-strong userbase of a console.'

Translation: "I'm probably going to make my game for the PS3, and will make a throwaway joke about a console I'm not developing for based on the popular perception. I do not realise that a bunch of rabid internet fanboys are going to blow it way out of proportion and claim 'ownage' on said console."

It is these very same developers that are doing the damage by not creating 'hardcore' games for the Wii, the console is massively expanding the userbase of gaming; in a few years perhaps these non-gamers would like to play games such as Silent Hill.

This sort of thinking is fixated on the short-term and the micrological, Nintendo are not doing any damage they are creating a nice balance of quality games for core and non-gamers; it is up to the third-parties to reciprocate.

As i wrote they will have NIN games and even if i like zelda and metroid you have to admite those games will be bought mainly

of hardcore NIN fans. Lets face it when games like MGS Halo  GOW Slinter cell GTA4 and sports games like Fifa and pes will come out to the ps3/xbox. Then NIN has to have some good 3d party games  to make them buy a wii instead of the other 2.

Nintendo fans can't have it both ways.  Nintendo has said they believe the Wii is doing this well because they have targeted non traditional gamers.....meaning people who never play games.  I see a lot of people mention playing with parents ect.... so the grandma comment is valid, just using their own words against them.  Judging by most of the games I see for the Wii.....how can one argue that the Wii is more family friendly than any of the new consoles?

Will Wii have mature titles, yes.  Does that mean it's still considered the family console, unfortunately yes.  Just think though, if not for that you might not be selling as well as you are right now.  I think parents honestly would rather get their kids a Wii rather than X360/PS3 (with price and family reputation)

Developers look back to making dumbed down games with a gimmick rather than looking forward to new tech to handle.  They should be utilizing PS3 and 360 rather than making games for the gamecube and coming up with dumb ideas on how to make people swing the wiimote in whatever ways.

Mmmmm... things are unfolding slightly faster than I anticipated.  Yes, friends, as I've informed you -- Wii is the greatest public enemy of free expression and meaningful gaming on the market.  I'm not a Silent Hill fan, but this announcement was not a big surprise.  See my blog post on the porportional decline of complex and meaningful games.

Get ready Nintendo fans, I hope you enjoy "family friendly" entertainment, or do not tire of the same 5 marketing icons being shoved down your throat once every couple of quarters.

I think you are correct and musicmaker could be proven right in the future.....well I mean you are correct that without Nintendo Wii, the game industry wouldn't be seeing gains like we are currently seeing.  However musicmakers point could also come true in that 3rd party developers have invested a lot of money and resources for developing PS3/X360 games....if Wii takes customers from those consoles, it means those companies have waisted their time and money.  Their projections on units sold will be thrown off which is bad when games cost millions to develope these days.  Not really Nintendos fault (I mean blaming them for being successful lol) but again it's a possible consequence if Wii hurts PS3/X360 sales.

I rank Zelda as a family game; it's plot is comprable to something you might find in your local dollar store's children's literaturre section.

Resident Evil 4?  ...-Strikes up the Jurassic Park Theme- ....Wheeeen Diiiinoooosaaaaurs, roamed the eaaaaarth dummm... laaaaa.... laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

Scarface?  Grats, multiplat?

Manhunt 2?  Sure.  Enjoy a pointless murder simulation.  I might be all for its right to be on the Wii, but I think the premise and the point of the game is absolutely stupid.  Besides, there is an enormous outrage toward this game on behalf of the "family friendly" community.

So No More Heroes, Sadness, Resident Evil 4 Wii + Umbrella Chronicles and Manhunt 2 are family games then? Silent Hill is a decent franchise but seriously they need to make something different. Some people are complete idiots really.

Btw, that article is full of grammatical problems and needs help.

Ouch? How so? It's just what he said "general opinion." Yeah, Nintendo is advertising the system more so as the be all family system, but it's getting it's fair share of "mature" titles like Manhunt 2, Project H.A.M.M.E.R, Disaster Day of Crisis, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Red Steel 2, and other types of games. I think some devs are waiting more so to see how those types of games sell before they make a move, but then again it's not like the Wii isn't getting any support either.

Mmmm... Yes, friends, watch as Wii completely destroys the medium of gaming as a valid form of enterainment.  It will reduce the function of games to little more than a child's play thing, and sell us products that are so inferior that they aren't worth playing in the first place.

As I've said for months, we're starting down a slow and dark road... walking in the wrong direction.

Manhunt 2? Sure. Enjoy a pointless murder simulation. I might be all for its right to be on the Wii, but I think the premise and the point of the game is absolutely stupid. Besides, there is an enormous outrage toward this game on behalf of the "family friendly" community.

Wow, I think your are the most bias person I have ever seen.

Bias? I'm probably one of the few people who are completely unbiased.

I rank Zelda as a family game; it's plot is comprable to something you might find in your local dollar store's children's literaturre section.

So I guess by your logic then that Duck Hunt was a shooting sim game some 20 years, and games like GTA and Bulletproof makes white kids from the suburbs into wannabe gangsters then doesnt it? You havent even played Manhunt 2 so cut the crap. The previews for the game give an idea of what to expect and the Wii brings more to the table in terms of physical realism which is more important then graphics. Who cares if playing Manhunt is going to be similar to actually killing someone, I think that was the whole intention behind the game as well as the damn controller. Or how about the Star Wars lightsaber game? Thats a swordplay game, does that mean kids are going to go out and buy swords and dismember eachother? No it doesnt so shut up troll.

[QUOTE="Teufelhuhn"]After all the stories people have told me about how they play the Wii with family members, I don't think anyone should be shocked this kind of comment. Even if he's not technically "right" and SH5 could sell decently on the Wii...could you blame him for having that sort of perception?Lord_Kalrod

No... but developers need to know that these kind of games will sell well on Wii too. Not EVERYONE that bought a Wii bought it for Wii Sports/Play.

First Dev that figures this out is going to make a fortune...

Yep.  No More Heroes might be the answer.

Next to Gears360 and PS3_FTW, he is one of the most biased and probably one of the most pathetic fanboys on this forum. His posts contain no logic. Twilight Princess has one of the best story lines in an adventure game in the last 5 years, it easily topped anything from last gen in terms of a quality story that was epic. Although it was far too easy to beat that game.

FoamingPanda

Lack of facts and irony clearly dictate this post as nothing more but a waste of bandwith...

Suddenly games are the coolest thing ever, now that they have the super fast processors, display 19 million shades of grey, and ultimately are catered to some elite group who really is just destroying the faction more so than reviving or keeping it alive....

Gaming started out as a way of entertaining people, and not just some group of kids who think they are so awesome cause they can pull off a 15 hit strike in a fighting game with complex mapped buttons, or know how to beat a FPS in under 5 hours when the purposed time is 10 or so on. Gaming is for everyone, why must it be restricted? How is it better for marketing towards the oh so "hardcore" gamer, when gaming is a media form like movies and music meant to be enjoyed by all?

If going the "wrong direction" means expanding, and creating a larger form of the media along with the will of making it a more accessible form for all is wrong, then I guess I'll be the first in line. The Wii does nothing bad for the company or industry, I guess then the DS is the same thing?

You have completely missed his point. He wasn't being a Jack Thompson advocate, he was saying the game lacks substance.Â
