Poll Skyrim vs The Witcher 3? (109 votes)

Skyrim 27%
The Witcher 3 62%
Don't know 11%

In my opinion, Skyrim is one of those games I could never get into. The bugs and bizarre system was meh for me.

The Witcher 3 was at a whole level. The story as jaw dropping, the visuals top notch, everything of The Wither 3 is perfection.

TW3 is one of the most overrated game of this gen. the way it praise by many PC gamers i beyond me. its a console port design with controller.

@needhealing: who said Morrowind is broken? The base game works great. The RNG mechanics just rub some people the wrong way, but they permeate many modern RPGs as well. As I mentioned above, the only mods I use are actually aesthetic

The Witcher is the better game and if I would score it, it would score higher than Skyrim. But Skyrim has something about it that makes it more special (to me at least).

Skyrim's combat is not great by any means, but it is definitely not as bad as The Witcher's terrible combat. At least Skyrim's combat offers more weapon variety plus playing in First Person view makes it more enjoyable for me. I don't find the movement controls as bad as The Witcher's movement controls either.

Bugs and bizarre system? Skyrim? WTF its one of teh easiest to understand games, and I never encountered a single bug in it.

Skyrim wins by far, as it has much more interesting world and better skill trees.

W3 might be eye candy, but the game world is boring, and every character you meet along the way is boring too. And the skill trees in the game are full of pointless stuff...

Bullcrap. I loath when Skyrim fans say "But the no bugs." When there is countless proof of it.

Also, Skyrim has way more boring characters. Do you even remember a single character of the game?

In terms of combat:

TW3 - 6/10

Skyrim - 4/10

Nope. And I've tried EVERY combat mod to make it good... Deadly Combat, Duel, Requiem, Action combat, Duke's, Wildcat, Ultimate combat, etc, etc. You simply can't fix it.

Witcher is a bit janky and unbalanced, but Skyrim has zero depth and quality. Nothing feels like it even makes any contact with whatever you hit and enemies are brain dead simple and easy to fight. ( even the "Ultimate" Ebony warrior is recycled human xyz...Witcher has wide range of unique boss fights, especially in expansions)

As a whole Witcher is more narrow but better, more quality experience: from performance, storytelling, quests, combat, characters and world/building. Skyrim is wider, but nearly everything in it is generic ( "radiant") waste of time. Even fully modded it stills falls short of being a particularly good game ( though you can make it visually spectacular, fine tune audio and ambiance to your liking, hugely improve char progression and mechanics, etc).

Although combat wise, they both struggle. Witcher forces you to stick and dodge constantly and Skyrim has you hack the same attacks repeatedly. Still I give Skyrim the upper hand since you have many more choices with weapons and magic spells.

But its actually a downside as you don't feel emotionally invested to your character or his story. That's why Witcher forces you to use Geralt.

This would make sense if you actually like Geralt. I have a hard time getting into the Witcher series because Geralt is too ugly for me to sympathise with. Played Witcher 1 for a few hours but gave up because Geralt's ugliness was getting annoying to me. If they could at least make him slightly better looking (or at least customise his face) that would make me feel more interested in playing the games.

As for "feel emotionally invested to your character or his story", when I play a game, I plays as myself, and my character is just an empty shell without their own personality, but rather my personality inside them.

Neither one, actually. Never played Skyrim. But, I played TW3 right up to the point I needed to call up some allies for an upcoming fight at home. Then, I got bored and my save game has stayed at that point ever since. Perhaps, one day, I might finish the game. But, the medieval setting of both made it seem like I've seen the two games a gazillion times before.

I wish for an RPG in modern day settings.

What do you want a whimp of a character? Of course Geralt is supposed to be unlikable, that's what makes Witcher so brilliant. I mean, spend hours living with someone and you'll also come to dislike individuals. Human interaction is that. We tend to play games and watch films and get attached to unrealistic nice characters. But Geralt is ugly, at times mean and overall human like.

I don't know why this is still a question people ask.

The Witcher 3 is considered the better game, Skyrim is no slouch but The Witcher 3 had the advantage to look at Skyrim and it is better for it.

The game won over 800 awards and it is four years newer then Skyrim.

I personally enjoy them both but I have to give it to The Witcher 3.

My vote is for Skyrim.

Witcher 3 felt like a bargain bin knockoff of Oblivion duct taped to a bargain bin knockoff of Skyrim. Witcher 3 has crappy combat and a horrible interface. Skyrim has a good interface and combat that is just ok. The protagonist in Witcher 3 is so grizzled, he sounds like he has hemorrhoids and poison ivy in his pants. Witcher 3 has a huge world, but it feels like a cut and paste job. Bethesda actually seemed to respond to the criticism of Oblivion feeling too cut and paste and made different areas in Skyrim feel more unique and like actual places. As a result, Skyrim has a smaller world, but it feels much richer and more full of life than the one in Witcher 3.

The player counts are very telling. 7 years on Skyrim still has a huge following on Steam. Witcher 3 is 3 years old and almost no one on Steam is still playing it.

Skyrim has a good interface and decent but not great combat. Neither is distractingly bad like in Witcher 3. The sad part is that Witcher 3 is actually a big improvement on earlier Witcher games, which I found totally unplayable.

Two incomparible games. Very little to compare really. It's no either or and they don't make a good thread as a result. Love 'em both.

I would also add that Skyrim was a legit pop culture phenomenon similar to World of Warcraft. Everyone and their grandma has heard the arrow to the knee joke. Pretty much everyone played it. It's on every major system, even the Switch. It gets hate because it was popular and highly successful. Other than hardcore gamers on internet forums, I've never encountered anyone talking about Witcher 3. I've actually never heard The Witcher 3 mentioned by anyone in real life.

@needhealing:

I tried to make Geralt as nice as possible in my playthrough of Witcher 3 and made SOME decent progress. It's really easy to make him into womanizer though but I made sure he remained faithful to Yenny or whatever the hell her name was. She had black hair, I remember.

Even then, he still seemed extremely unexpressive. I didn't like how little emotion he had most of the time. He was a real stick in the mud.

@nepu7supastar7: He's not human lol. He was literally created for the purpose of slaying demons, ghosts, wraiths, and everything else that humans won't deal with. On top of that he's call a freak or a monster and is shunned by humanity. I'm pretty sure I'd be a stick in the mud too lol

So?! He could've rocked it and been cheerful about the whole thing! Haven't you ever seen the X Men? There's plenty of mutants who get shunned by society and still manage to live with a positive attitude towards life! Geralt could've done it too!

More like if Solid Snake had a baby with Wolverine but cheated on him with Guts, you get Geralt. He would be the product of 3 manly men getting it on with each other because of how one sided his character is.

Wimp of a character? Yeah because a handsome face makes instantly somebody a wimp, just like having an ugly face instantly makes somebody strong like Hercules. So you are saying its totally impossible for a good-looking guy to not be a wimp or overall human like? You are so inane. Do you actually think everyone in this world has the same personality? That's so unrealistic. But then again, you play j-rpg's which have some of the worst character development in any media.

I didn't say everyone in the world has the same personality. I said Geralt bares the same TRAITS as those 3 characters I mentioned. So I'll take your ignorant input on jrpg character development as a friendly lash. ??

Geralt follows a trope and we all know it well enough by now. The brooding, angry, ass kicker who apears to hate everything but has a big, fluffy heart on the inside. The "manly" men, so to speak. They're not as common as the goofball or underdog warrior though. But it ain't exactly new.

We all know this will be irrelevant when Cyberpunk comes out right?

we dont know anything about cyberpunk. no gameplay, no footage, dont even know if it will be releasing anytime soon or not.

That's never stopped you from calling GOTY though has it?

It's fascinating how so many people that love The Witcher hate Skyrim and how so many people that love Skyrim hate The Witcher.

TW3 is the better game but Skyrim with PC mods is some next level shit. Extremely hard to choose but I voted for TW3 because it’s better out of the box without mods but I love both games to pieces.

Get rid of the Dwemer ruins and Skyrim will be a better game overall, but will never beat Witcher in story and world building.

Oh yeah, those Dwemer ruins were pretty tedious. Just endless corridors and weird robot-like things running at you. Just one on the many extremely unrealistic fantasies about how the middle ages actually were!

TW3 is a masterpiece. Skyrim is simply a 'good' game filled with the predictability of Bethesda development. 8 voice actors, buggy, lame melee combat, false choices, etc.
