So glad I decided to wait until this game goes down in price. Is a two-hour RPG even an RPG any more?

It's called a speedrun for a reason! Plus it was done by a member of the dev team who are priviledged to know the game intimately. He probably cleared the game in that long, using only the main path, fast travel's and whatnot. Normal gamers aren't going to be nearly that quick about it.
Did you not notice the article's title? "Around 2 hours" which clearly signifies he was taking his time on his so-called "Speed run".That was a speedrun

does anyone really play the elder scrolls game for the story?http://www.destructoid.com/skyrim-s-main-quest-can-be-cleared-in-around-two-hours-213657.phtml

Actually it was a competition among the developers to see who could beat it the fastest, first place won a trophy and a pie made from todd howard iirc
It was a speedrun it was on Kotaku

[QUOTE="Silverbond"]A speed run?peterw007
Completing the game as fast as possible, using whatever in-game exploits possible to shave down your speed.
Some people compete against others by trying to complete the same video game in as low a time as possible.
No, I understand. I was suggesting to TC that this was a speed run.Yeah most people it will probably take around 40+ hours on their first playthrough because they will want to do side quests and stuff to, and still then they will have like 20% of the game done
That's quite nice.
If i want to see the ending, i can do it.
If i want to see what the entire world has to offer me, i can do it too.
I'm not interested in this game, but i found this to be a really good design.
does anyone really play the elder scrolls game for the story? Um yeah, the combat isn't amazing by any means. That means the story better make up for it. The story in Morrowind was fun, but the one in Oblivion sucked, which means Oblivion sucked, and it did. It's really only good with mods.[QUOTE="TankBusterJenn"]

I also heard the gameplay is better in oblivion
I know people who beat oblivion's main quest in a few hours and just stopped. that's not what ES is about, it's more for the exploring and sidequesting. I beat the main quest pretty quickly, but there's so much to do that it doesn't really matter in a game set up for the world rather than story. plus, it's easy to get caught up in the side missions since most of them have interesting characters or little stories to them.
Then the game is actually pretty decent in gameplay time. I'm able to complete RE4 in two hours, and I know people who spent 40 hours on it their first time through. So basically this is a long game, and I'm sure I will be playing it for a long time.
I'm not buying it for the story, but for the gameplay and the world around it.
Rofl.
Ok TC just so you know someone who can do an extremely fast speed run of a game usually has spend hundreds of hours in that game, doing it over and over and over again till he/she perfects it to the smallest detail.Doing a pefect run , calculating every small setp and every movement, skipping everything that could possably be skipped and all that for the fastest time possible.
I'll give you an small example. In fallout 3 a single main story dialog might take the normal gamer 10 minutes.A speed runer will do it in 10 secs clicking as fast as possible pretty much skipping the hole thing. And thats just one small thing. The speed runer willl do that with everything in the game.Everything that can be skipped IS and everything that can't is done as fast as possible.
I used the words "fast" and "possible" quite a lot in this post...
You get the idea ?
Anyway I'm sure Skyrim can be done much faster then 2 hours but that doesn't mean it wont be a HUGE game.
Key word - "Main Quest"
Elder Scrolls isn't known for the Main Quest.
It's all about the side quests and stuff.
Also, Super Mario 64 can be completed in 6 minutes.
When speedrunning, anything is possible.

lol with glitches :P.
This can't be a serious thread. The person who cleared it in two hours was a QA tester, obviously someone who has probably played through the game dozens of times to check for bug, glitches, and other technical issues. He probably knows the map like the back of his hand.
"Update: Folks are asking how the Skyrim speed run stacks up to previous competitions. The Skyrim speed run took just over an hour more than both Oblivion and Fallout 3." - Taken from Bethblog
FYI this was a speed run of the main quests only and not the side quests which Bethesda games are famous for. I recommend that you rethink your decision.
