It's a great game. Unfortunately the shooting mechanics are crap.

Definitely the best looking game this year, and one of the best this entire gen.
Seriously I think it looks better than Crysis/Metro/Crysis 2 etc.
Indeed, Iam loving this game so far and it looks great on PC, props best looking open world game Iv seen. (Not counting mods)
[QUOTE="HAZE-Unit"]its really funny that you say it reminds you of shenmue. check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDdgKAf6f6U i want shenmue 3!! That was awesomeThe game reminds me of Shenmue alot, the setting, learning moves, the combat....etc.
What makes it standout from open world games ( especially modern settings ) is two major factors I always wanted to be perfected in GTA.
1- Melee combat system is the best in any open world game, better than Assassins Creed and on par with the Batman games, i prefer Sleeping Dogs combat, it's more challenging.
2- Driving mechanics is amazing, I've always wanted the handling and feel of arcade racers in open world games and Sleeping Dogs is the first game to offer that.
Shooting mechanics are great too.
There are some flaws ( like glitches here and there, invisible walls in some areas, lack of aircrafts so far I didn't see any type of aircrafts ) but they are overshadowed by the Hong Kong setting, story and the almost flawless gameplay mechanics.

[QUOTE="parkurtommo"]No its not. thats too much.Have you tried out the demo? It does indeed. Plus I get like 25 fps with almost all things on extreme except the AA, rofl.Definitely the best looking game this year, and one of the best this entire gen.

The demo is actually what sold me on the game. I liked everything about it. These types of open world/ action games are really fun to me. They aren't perfect buy they are damn fun. I will probably pick this game up on Tuesday when I get Madden 13. Madden and sleeping dogs sounds like a good labor day weekend to me.Inb4 I played the demo didnt like. lol. Just play the actual game before you weigh in.
Loving it so far, 20 hours in the game, and still going ofc. with most sides done. At least the port is smooth on pc unlike some other games.

Worst character modelling and animation I've seen in a game since Grand Theft Auto 3. Nice textures in the game. The story is weak, written by a teenager probably. The gameplay is worse than Halo. Open world? No. Try GTA San Andreas if you want an open world. The game might be fun on consoles, but I advice PC gamers to avoid this console port like the plague. It's boring, scripted and too linear for the PC audience to enjoy.SKaREOwhatever yall do, dont listen to this idiot.
I rented it from gamefly. It took me about 25 hours to do mostly everything and it was fun the entire way. However, once you beat the campaign which isn't all that long if that's your primary focus, there isn't a whole lot to keep you entertained to warrant a $60 purchase IMO. Still one of the best games I've played in a while though.Jagged3dge
Took me 39 hours to beat doing side quests,etc.. There is actually quite alot of thigns to do besides the main mission if you look around.

Yeah it seems the High SSAA really kills the FPS, and heats up my GPU. Hopefully NVIDIAs next driver update can make things a little better. Still looks good, I can only tell a slight difference with the highest AA

I dont know what game you've been playing, but I just got it this weekend and so far it's been pretty great. Kind of a story driven open world game, and some what unique in the way that guns are not common. I've also found the story and characters to be very intriguing and it's been drawing me in (especially the triad missions), and the voice acting is pretty darn good especially for an open world game (even has Emma Stone). As a PC gamer my main, minor qualms would be the keyboard and mouse controlles are a little wonky (for example, the action hijack and using sprint and vault for the same key) but still easily usable; although I had ordered a 360 controller recently so it shouldnt be a problem soon. And probably the lack of consistency in the textures/character models, even with the hi res textures pack somethings still look poor. But overall I've been really enjoying it, and I'm not a person that generally can beat a game in a timely manner (hence my backlog). Probably the last game to interest me in a similar was Saints Row 3, which is just all sorts of fun.
I play this game on max settings even though it runs between 25 to 45 FPS but I can't help it, it's so darn pretty.
sometimes it's jaw dropping probably one of the best looking games I've seen in a while.
But the characters and animations could use alot of work.
And the game is really fun and addictive, everybody should give it a try.

Does it really lose anything going from the high AA to extreme AA?
I think the fighting animations are pretty good. Although it seems awkward when everyone just stands there and watches you slowly lift a guy and drop him in a dumpster :P
True, but for what it's worth...there aren't many instances in GTA where you'll want to be duking it out either :P.It has the best close-quarter combat system for any open world game. GTA V has a lot to prove with their sloppy mechanics.
Mr_BillGates
Mass Effect 3 is my GOTY so far. I haven't played anything else this year though, besides some indy titles (which have been kicking butt BTW). This year has been...very predictable. Although, this has probably been my best gaming year. I've played so many great games because of PS+ and have picked up some really fun games, cheaply. ME3 and SotC willl be games I remember forever. LA Noire, Saints Row 2, DA:O and Crysis were pleasant surprises. Super Meat Boy has definitely been awesome too. There are just too many game I've had a lot of fun with this year. The funny thing being, all but one didn't come out this year :p
I came into this year wanting ME3, Blands 2, AC3, a 3DS and maybe Wii U and Pikmin 3. How has my opinion changed? Well, I think I may pick up Hitman Absolution or Farcry 3, depending on reviews and pricing, and I decided not to get a 3DS. Other than that, I still have the exact same stance. Not sure about Wii U and Blands and AC3 still look awesome.
I somewhat digress. Sleeping Dogs? Eh, I feel like I've seen it before. Played the demo on PC, and it isn't my thing.
[QUOTE="parkurtommo"][QUOTE="Mr_BillGates"]Arkham City is also open world you know. :P I played AA and AC but I didn't like the combat system, it'is fluid but shallow. Shallow my left foot! Going from AA high to extreme I noticed the game gets alot crisper looking.
The shadows and the colors popout more and when it rains the game looks at it's best.

I played the demo. The shooting was awful and the combat was a lackluster copy of Batman.BigBoss255The combat is deeper and much more fun than AC. Watch this advanced moves video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNRp34j5TEs Oh BTW Squre Enix London did help Rockstar with Batman combat system.

Watch this advanced moves video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNRp34j5TEs Oh BTW Squre Enix London did help Rockstar with Batman combat system. If the moves in that video are the extent of the melee ombat system, then the comparison is laughable. Frankly, the combat system in your average Warriors title is deeper. Batman's moves are as follows: Strike stun aerial attack beatdown counter blade dodge takedown ground takedown multi ground takedown Takedown disarm and destroy area stun ultra stun batarang remote electrical charge explosive gel Batclaw slam... (I don't think I missed any, but if someone sees anything missing, feel free to amend the list.) How many of them you use and how often is entirely up to the player. From what I've seen on youtube, those, what? Dozen attacks plus a grab move and environmental takedowns are the extent of Sleeping Dogs' melee combat repertoire. Now that's fine, considering it also has weighty and satisfying shooting mechanics(my opinion based on the demo), but don't make yourself look ridiculous by claiming the combat is deeper than Arkham City's.

Anyway..I really like Sleeping Dogs. It has so many nice little improvements to standard GTA-like gameplay that make the whole experience much less annoying. I hope Rockstar will implement some of those for GTAV
Sleeping Dogs has better combat system.AdrianWerner[QUOTE="Zensword"]The combat is deeper and much more fun than AC. Seriously- you guys are gonna need to explain this to me... maybe I'm a bit too fanatical about Arkham City combat, I'll cop to that, but how is it better, deeper, and/or more fun?

I wouldn't necessary say it''s deeper, but it does hand to hand better. There are more actual moves (instead of gadets,) in Sleeping dogs. Wei is also a lot weaker than Batman and this makes combat more challenging. Also...it has more fun variety in enemies to me. With Batman special enemies (shields, stun batons etc) required specific technique..one for each, without any variety. In Sleeping Dogs you've got graplers and heavy hitters, but they can be beaten with multiple hand to hand techiques. Also..the enviorement is cruicial in Sleeping Dogs fights, while bassicaly completely meaningless in AC. Plus you've got psychological effects on combat in SD. if you break somebody's legs or arms the other enemies react with visible fear.
Overall I find Sleeping Dogs combat to be much clunkier and less polished, but it's a lot more satysfying when it comes to pure hand to hand combat, as it simply is more varied and allows you do more. Of course, Batman has all his gadtets that spice things up and opening attacks from above, but you could just as well throw firearms and vehicular combat into Sleeping Dog's advantages then.
That said...damn...after Arkham City every other open world game looks so barren...

Bravo! You, sir, have made me see the light! But seriously- I can see where you're coming from, and to quote a great man: "I'LL BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR!!" I did like the combat from my time with the demo(I've played it four or five times now), and I'll probably use it for my ass kicking fix now that I'm pretty sure if squeezed the arkham leaderboards about as far as I think I can. At least until Arkham City: AE or Arkham 3 hits.,:Please Log In to post.
