I got the Sly HD Collection and it's just as perfect now as it was back on the PS2. I love it. I'm getting Sly 4, no questions asked. Sony just shut up and take my money!
Now I hope after ND is done with TLOU they will make a Jak 4!
I'm one very happy customer.
No, I for one am glad Mario is the way he is right now. The last thing Nintendo needs is to jump on bandwagons, because that would make them uninteresting and break up their fans even more then they already have.[QUOTE="xWoW_Rougex"]
I gotta say I'd pick Ratchet&Clank and Sly any day over Mario. The problem with Mario is that it's just a platformer, the guy got no personality, no real dialogue and no real story either. I wish next game, Nintendo would stop living in the 90's and realize that in this generation, games should have more than just gameplay. I hope (but it won't happen) that next gen, Mario resembles more like Ratchet and Clank, those games (ps3) felt like playing a Pixar movie.

I wouldn't really call it a bandwagon. I just think it's time to keep up with the times, introduce something else than just gameplay. Sidescroller and non-existant stories are things of the past when the technology was limited. These days, technology allows the developers to show proper story with (cut)scenes, voice acting, camera angles, emotions and grand effects and all kind of stuff. It's kind of a standard these days for games to have story elements, not a fad or bandwagon or something like that. The same old same old concept of running around completing levels to rescue the princess is rather old and worked in 1980 and stuff (when technology was so limited) but now these days, it ain't cool. They could at least elaborate the whole "princess gets kidnapped" deal instead of spending like a mere two minutes at the beginning and ending of the game.

you propose a very dangerous thing here... I dare you to come up with a GOOD story involving an Italian plumber in a mushroom land that also doesn't limit the crazy worlds mario visits...
Just look how bad Sonic turned out when they tried to shoehorn plot into the series. Platformers are one of the genres that gain almost nothing from a story. In any case, focusing on gameplay is the ideal in this medium IMO

This is a new Sly Cooper game correct? Not a remake?bobcheeseball
Yeah, it's the sequel to the third game.
I personally welcome this return, well on PS3 at least.

wait....wut??? RPGs on the SNES, NES, Mega Drive, PC, etc. all had stories worth telling. they had mature themes and talked about moral philosophy and humanist nature. even the simplest ones had a lesson to teach kids back then, unlike games nowadays which portray blood for the sake of gore/"cool"/"hardcore" themes.
you play Mario for the gameplay, not for story. kids and adults have played Mario the past 20+ years or so without the need for an emotional story. if you want some sort of dialogue, go play Super Mario RPG.
and yes, the "save the princess" 2-minute thing still works and is still cool.

Either that, Paper Mario series, or Mario & Luigi series.[QUOTE="BPoole96"]Sly games were never really "difficult" :PMaybe this is only because I didn't play the other Sly games but that looked horribly boring and really easy

Ha ha yeah, I went through Sly 1 HD recently, and while I still love the game it was pretty easy. Beat it within a couple days along with getting the platinum trophy (I surprise they didn't have trophies for the trial runs).:P
How could it be a return if they never left?
Their have been tons of 3D Platformers this gen you just have to look in the right place.
Nintendo recently released one on the 3DS just last year.

Can't really say I agree. It's definitely felt like a scarcity. There haven't been so many high-profile multiplat 3d platformers this gen. Sonic Generations was probably the last.
Even the 3DS , which you mentioned, is pretty much dominated by 2d platforming in stereovision. There's an ancient Rayman 3d port, and SM3dland, and that's about it for 3d platformers. And SM3dLand is basically a sidescroller for the most part.
It's a genre that badly needs more attention.
