The whole deal with the resonator is over at the end of Act Three? You get past that? Foxhound Fox though, Sheep I take it.PapaJohn24
[QUOTE="Chutebox"][QUOTE="AAllxxjjnn"][QUOTE="Chutebox"]You sure you played Gears? Gears of War doesn't take place on Earth...[QUOTE="PapaJohn24"][QUOTE="loco145"]Huh? I found GeoW story equally shalow: Aliens attack the earth, you kill em.EuroMafia
What?
the game takes place on Serra.
oh, guess that tells you how engaging the "story" was lol.
Yeah, I don't even know if they mention Sera in the game. They don't, but if you wait long enough at the "press start" screen a little movie plays and mentions that you're on Sera Lol.
Neither game had much of a story, but gears had some story that was okay. Just not much of it. SMG on the other hand... was painful. Never going into the story room again. Oh my.... uh.... uh.... just watch
Now I dont mind reading, Lost Odyssey did it beautifully, but uh...
well, i cant really speak for gears since i havent played it yet, but smg did have a story beyond the whole save the princess, save the world scenario. bowser attempting to rule the universe with the sun he created and the origin of rosalina and how she and the stars travel the universe, trying to get home.redmetal86'
please! STOP!!!
just pretend the story didnt exist. That thing was so boring. Had to sit through 1 (didnt do it anymore)

zachshalakindap
boring or not, it still exists. although, it probably would have helped to have someone narrating it as opposed to the simple text text text press a scheme.
Anyone who thinks SMG had a better storyline probably didn't expand their library of books aside from Little Red Riding Hood and 3 little pigs.
I can't recall the number of times I've heard of the whole "save the princess" lameness over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.....
Gears story is so bad people don't realize it isn't on Earth.
lettuceman44
yeah lol I totaly missed that part:lol:
It sure looks like earth, oh well lol
Neither is exactly a story driven game. They have interesting characters, they fill out why you're going from point A to point B somewhat - but when I can sum up your query as:
"The resonator" vs "the princess"
I think the question might be just out of its element.
I have no idea why people think having a story is neccesary. I call this sentiment the Metal Gear Effect.
A story-driven game (like MGS) is very compelling once in a while, but most actions games don't need much more than a breif story sequence to tell the player why they at a certain location.
Gameplay is always more important than story for me.
Really coming down to
Save the Princess, stop the evil guy.
Save the world, stop the evil aliens/beasts/etc.
I have to argue that Gears of War would not have been close to winning GOTY in 07.I agree with ithis.
06 it had much easier competition than Mario Galaxy had in 07. jg4xchamp
Gears doesn't have a story.
"You are Marcus Fenix, here is a gun, go shoot some Locust and retrieve the resonator."
That's Gears' story. From what I understand of SMG, it has more than that and it's a Mario game.
foxhound_fox
"From what you understand".....which means you haven't played it and are just speculating because it's well known you don't like Gears.
gears of war at least tweaked the aliens from space attacking formula. (made them come from underground on the same planet.)
smg did nothing to change the princess is kidnapped formula

Nothing to change it. Apart from it being in outer space lol. Quite a change from castles and the Mushroom Kingdom...
