So, a bit of UC3 vs The Witcher 2 EE in graphics?

Digitalfoundry loves it and wants to put it amoungst the best lookng out there, but does it stand up to the current console graphics king Uncharted3?

The Witcher 2 by a long shot. Especially if you consider that it's not an uninteractive movie game like UC3... instead of a game you can actually control.

Yeah but the PC version does eat UC3 alive though, let's face it. So the Witcher 2 is a lot better looking game, it's just a shame the consoles can only handle such ludicrously low resolution textures.

edit - Also for once it might be nice if people used full size screenshots for graphical comparisons. Even Minecraft can look good with half size shots.

360 also uses an upscaler which the PS3 lacks, modified DirectX (the most advanced graphical API in the world) and has a unified RAM architecture which is more advanced, and gives games a little more memory due to small OS footprint.

Sony focuses on exclusives, because they HAVE to focus on exclusives.

They can't compete in any other way.

Microsoft doesn't have to put out exclusives. They just let third-party multiplats destroy PS3, which is exactly what has been happening this gen.

Just finished UC3 and to me it's the most visually impressive game I've ever played. The Witcher 2, while pretty, is not in the same league imo (played it on max settings on PC). Of course there are some technical aspects that the Witcher does better such as framerate, resolution and anti-aliasing. But that's just a fraction of what constitutes the visuals. The animations in Uncharted are just insane both in quality and quantity. The way Drake moves and interact with the enviroment (compare Drake stumbling down a sand dune, withe Geralt stiffly scaling a platform!) is just plain awesome. Then we have the set pieces, that are numerous and ofc offers tremendous technical challenge. Such as the moving cruise level, driven by a real time wave animation. That level is btw one of the most visually stunning I have ever seen. The Witcher has nothing even close to that (question is if any game has). Finally ND uses camera angles and other cinematic tools to make the game look even more staggering.

The video you linked to looks WORSE than the screenshot I posted, it looks horrendous, did you actually watch it before posting it? I used an uncharted 3 screenshot upscaled to full size as it is if you play on a TV or any modern 1080 screen. The video you linked to is a 720p compressed video which is why it looks so terrible. Have you actually tried watching it fullscreen? Compare it to the screenshot I used, it looks horrible by comparison.

To clarify - Maximised to full screen size (how you play the actual game) your video looks WORSE than the screenshot I posted, that's because;

1 - It is compressed video so the 720p looks even worse than actual 720p.

2 - When it is made fullscreen it isn't upscaled, I'm just looking at an enlarged 720p image, which is worse than an upscaled image which is what you would get when playing it and what I provided.

So your direct feed looks considerably worse than my screenshot, so what exactly is your point? You are aware presumably that graphical comparisons need to be full screen comparisons?

Both look okay. I haven't played Uncharted 3 yet but I did play 1 and 2 and I would say The Witcher 2 is likely the better game

On topic, i think both look pretty close in graphics. Performance wise, Uncharted 3 is probably more stable due to its less complecity.
