Most games these days have them because they give the player a foundation to build upon. The game is being advertised to have a large world to explore, so it doesn't seem very appealing to play through the whole game without getting stronger.

Yeah there's that. I just wonder if the game is going to be all flash with little substance. Having the ability to build up your character would have provided extra depth for a big open-world game like this.

Open world games don't need significant RPG elements, like RDR or Assassin's Creed 2/Brotherood.

I suppose you're right IB, as long as this game is lengthy with lots of things to do and a decent story.

I really hope you weren't thinking of Borderlands when you made this thread.

Because the 2 games couldn't be any more different aside from being FPS's.

I hope it's alot like the first DOOM in terms of level design. But it's probably not.

Actually I was thinking Fallout because of the post-apocaliptic world.

So post apocaliptic world = RPG now?

I don't understand why people make these comparisons.

That's up to the designer really, maybe they just wanted you to experiment? because the game was designed that way. I mean, the original crysis didnt really need to have the abilities progress with upgrades - because the objectives and structure di From my understanding, RAGE isnt one of those 'immersive sims' where RPG elements would typically work - RAGE has a big world but with FPS-like locales for it to still qualify as a straight shooter
