Developers are leaving the PSP in droves. It's as simple as that, and next gen I can only forsee an outcome where Sony gets slaughtered as hard as they did when the iPod came out in competition with Sony's line of music players. Nobody goes around calling music players "Walkman" anymore

Not exactly. Ready At Dawn is returning to make God of War : Ghost of Sparta, Valkyria Chronicles has its sequel made on the PSP instead of the PS3, Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep which has been highly rated is coming out and the success of Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker in Japan and the potential success it will have in other countries is so high that Konami is thinking of porting it on the PS3.
Not to mention, E3 has yet to show new releases. Who knows? A better Assassin's Creed game? or maybe a new Uncharted game (devs said they'd love to make episodical adventures of Uncharted on the PSP.
I'm pretty optimistic about the PSP. Sure, it may not have enough games as the DS or its number of AAA titles on Metacritic, but it's a great system.
Also, the Digital Comics for the PSP has begun and is doing pretty damn well.
And as for being slaughtered, it managed to sell 60 million despite having a juggernaut of a rival called the DS. That just shows how the PSP can hold its ground. Apple will never be a gaming company like the Big 3 (Nintendo,Sony and Microsoft) and what they are trying to pull off is a lazy attempt to make more cash.
The games you mentioned, one of which is a Sony IP, and the other are exactly the type from the example I gave. The KH fanbase and the MGS fanbase are part of the Playstation fanbase. These people will be there to buy these games on the PSP. These consumers don't own a Nintendo DS waiting every day for the next Metal Gear game to come out.
Assassin's Creed was garbage on the handhelds, so better wouldn't be too hard. Uncharted - ANOTHER SONY IP
And like I said. That 60 million comes from brand power alone. The system is obviously not selling software. Think about it. Which MMO gets more subscribers daily than any other MMO. WoW? Why? Because everyone knows WoW, and will jump onto that. Why have people bought iPods over the years when other devices have the same features and a lower price point? Brand power. Why do people buy the Wii when so many people think it has bad games? Brand power.
Any random person on the street is likely to know what a Wii is, what an iPod is, and what WoW is. They are now at a point when they actually become more popular just by existing because their names are buzz words everywhere you go. 5 years ago you couldn't meet someone that didn't know what a Playstation was. That didn't immediately die off with the PSP release did it? People still know what the Playstation is.
As said. PSP isn't selling software. I'm specifically referring to the fact that the PSP is being slaughtered in this department. Like I said the iPhone overtook it in ONE YEAR, and the DS has 700% the software sales the PSP does. I'm very firm in my belief that come next gen of handhelds the PSP is going to go the way of the Walkman. Sony still makes MP3 players, but they have abysmal sales, and nobody cares about them. They'll probably just turn the PSP into a phone, and that'll be the end of that too. Nobody will care for it beyond that point.
