BIg companies are afraid to make new consoles in a ression. Pc gaming is starting to get better with it's new tech, better graphics, better game play and better value. Console gaming will start to look really bad and old as pc games get better each even in a ression.

http://www.edge-online.com/news/avalanche-breaks-silence-secret-project

Even the low auility and none big IP's are starting to look better than currnet gen console. India and china are not supporting console or the console are not selling. The world is playing pc games and not console. It looks like consoles have a dark future ahead.

Damn Right Mate, PC gaming rules, You shouldnt be posting this thread its very obvious and hands down. On the other hand, if console owners got good value with their exclusives then I'm happy for them. But I dnt really give a crap as I already have plans in running SF 4 pc in Tri Sli 8800gt 512DDR3 with 2 May flash arcade stick. It'll be a blast.

No new consoles means console gaming will get stale. Games will look better and play better on the pc. More game devs well have better games on the pc than console. Lets put it this way it brings alot of bad news to console gamers and console game devs. This will affect console game sales too.

As someone who has SLI'd 8800GTs and knows exactly how many SLI connectors there are (hint: not enough for tri-SLI), good luck with that.

Link on maxed out? I keep seeing games that look and play better. Competition with other consoles more than PC, I'd say, so as long as the 360 can keep up with the PS3, it should be fine.

pc gaming future is looking bright right now :) Think about a sceond what happens if there is no new consoles? pc gaming gets better more games end up on the pc. Better mmo's,shooters, rpg every new genre will be better on the pc. For game devs to stay in business they will have to move to pc gaming.

think about it what happens if there is no new consoles made? pc gaming is getting better every 6 months.what will happen to game devs? what will happen to gaming? see my point.

If the world is playing pc games game devs and companies will have to go where the money is.

Do you -really- think the PC is going to be able to support the game industry on it's own? Even with the -massive- amount of piracy it has? I love PC gaming, but I'm not ignorant enough to think that it's able to effectively support the whole industry on it's own. The amount of money some devs lose down to piracy is abhorrent. Add in a bunch of extra users, who are more than happy to "play for free" then you're going to lose a lot more. Consoles need PCs, and PCs need consoles. It's just simply the way it is.

Let's see...

New PC Game is out (The new Total War game for example) new board, vid card, ram, CPU probably an OS reinstall because it will crap itself, and update all the drivers. Then figure out why it's choppy, adjust the sound settings, open the right ports in the firewall because multiplayer games aren't working properly, spend a day tweaking the AA/Visual settings. When it's all working, download the 1.4GB patch, then download the 1.6gb patch because the last one was for the UK English, not NA English boxed version. Can't get into any online games until everyone else has repatched. Game starts crashing, have to wait 2 weeks for the 200MB patch that fixes it, but I can't use my old savegames.

New 360 game is out, I buy it, I put it in the drive, I play it. I even have enough time left over to get some action that evening.

BTW I can see into the future.

It's going to be hard for micro soft, sony and nintendo to compete with pc gaming when there is no new consoles. It 's going to be alot harder on the game devs too.

So good luck with that ;)

Why is it going to be hard?

It's actually easier, you're familiar with the hardware, and the install base is huge. Remember, games are fun.

I'm not saying PC's aren't technically superior. I'm just saying I like to have a good time, and every second spent system tweaking is not a good time.

I've been gaming on PC's since my C64. I think anyone that has been gaming as long as I have can tell you that PC Games are not nearly what they should be. Considering the hardware under the hood, it's not worth investing in a gaming system only to have a few more lines of resolution.

Empire Total War is getting there, but i can't justify upgrading my system for one game.

Considering how small the PC gaming market is in comparison with the console market, it won't be that difficult. Especially since it is highly unlikely that a new console release will be needed before 2010-2011.

The next generation of HD consoles will probably just be gimped mini PCs anyway. :P And PC game developers will probably start making low end games for PCs with WORST specs than current consoles if what you're saying is true so it'll just back fire on you TC. But good for people with low end PCs like me! :D I'm sorry, but graphics scaling just does not work. When you take a high end game and play it on a low end PC, it just looks worst than a PC game that was made around the low end PC. :|

Personally, Despite PC prowess, I dont think console gaming will be wiped out. Why? because console gaming is console gaming, which is built for the casual. PC gaming on the otherhand is more than just videogaming with varying purpose. Its like owning a car, you pimp it until it out mod. Also, console gaming is an established Cash Cow for game developers. Picture this, I'll build a console game I know the console system prowess, the gfx cpu etc no more symantic argument, Sold = Easy money. Now I would develop a PC game.... There are so many symantic for consideration! and my base consumer is a big "?" and that I need to define the scope and limitation of my software, which I think is one reason why most PC games are ports from console. :)

Explain how console gaming is casual? I mean since some console games are multiplat with the PC platform, Gears of War 1, Left 4 dead, I am not making a whole list you get my point. Just like PC gaming has a casual side so does console gaming. Console gaming as a whole doesn't fall under "casual" maybe "user friendly" :)

Honestly? I don't. I think it's a good thing. Good games are still selling, it's the games that focus on hype to sell that are getting hurt because people can now play them for free at first and see if there is a game to be played or if it's just hype. All games that do not live off hype are doing just fine. I don't pirate because I have the worst luck in the world. I have a feeling that I will get caught as soon as my first download. Because of piracy; Games + mega hype + pimped graphics - Y (what was promised game play wise but wasn't really there) = dead now. And I couldn't be any more happy about it. List me 5 great games that sold poorly and got discontinued because of piracy. Good games do get pirated but they also sell because they're good.

PC gaming is strong just as it has always been. People have been saying PC gaming is "dying" since 1985 yet every single year it rolls out many million+ sellers and has more AAA/AA exclusives than any other platform. There was an article stating that in the past year and a half (this was a few months ago mind you) more than 150 million PC's have been sold with HL2 capabilities or higher. Of course all of these people aren't PC gamers but a good portion of them are no doubt. Little bit of piracy doesn't help but still these PC games sell millions (Crysis, Witcher, Spore, CoD4 PC, Orange Box PC, Starcraft, etc.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games#PC). Bottom of the page.

PC gaming is superior in every way. This however doesn't mean that consoles will dissapear. Much like PC, consoles are now an integral part of gaming (though PC's started gaming and came first). While i don't game much on anything other than PC there are a good portion that do. Luckily my 360 was a gift so i didn't have to pay for it (got it as a moving out thing) because i really don't play it.

It looks like consoles have a dark future ahead.

here my question, are they making the Hardware affordable for us so we can stay up with the PC Tech?..... cause if not, Even if Pc has so much more then the consoles, but no one can keep upgrading there computer, then companies will stop making games for the PC cause of the huge divide of PC owners and will eventfully Fail against the console. I would love to have a surper gameing rig, but it just cost so much.......... if they fine someway to make hardware cheaper, i would agree with you, but given the fact that games can be made for the spifaction(Sorry for spelling) for the console because they know how powerful it is, but with PC, every one is different and they have to make games base on certain hardware available. So game makers will fine that makeing a game for a console is easier then for PC.

seems logical to me. everybody needs a computer, why not use it to play games as well instead of buying an extra expensive toy (console)?

Damn Right Mate, PC gaming rules, You shouldnt be posting this thread its very obvious and hands down. On the other hand, if console owners got good value with their exclusives then I'm happy for them. But I dnt really give a crap as I already have plans in running SF 4 pc in Tri Sli 8800gt 512DDR3 with 2 May flash arcade stick. It'll be a blast.

okay, I'm all for the sick mutant PC, but come on. Street fighter is a 2d fighter and you brag on running it on your SLI?

PC Gaming is waste of time and money.

There, I said it.

kerpal_cz

think about it what happens if there is no new consoles made? pc gaming is getting better every 6 months.what will happen to game devs? what will happen to gaming? see my point.

Yeh, you're wrong about all that and you're trying to make simple **** sound hard to do.

No it isn't, it was far stronger in late 90's. PC gaming revenue is only being propped up by Warcraft and The Sims. If it wasn't for those two games PC gaming would appear to be dying.

Developers are taking notice and focusing on multiplats, some of which don't make it to the pc. PC gaming has become a platform for Warcraft/Sims expansions and delayed console ports. It is a shell of its former self.

pc gaming is changing, its not getting weaker. developers are focusing on multiplats generally, nothing to do with the state of pc gaming. have a look at the exclusives that each console gets compared to the last generations. pc gaming wins every single year in terms of AAA/AA games, what more do you want?

No matter how simple PC gaming is console gaming is simpler, next point big games like cod4 PC have suffered horribly from piracy when you consider how many are playing and how many actually payed. So in short console gaming is going nowhere. That said there are areas where PC gaming is always better, for example the mod community on games like oblivion is amazing something that I as a console gamer wish I had. Thats the choice I make when buying games. I like many people dont have a PC capable of playing Oblivion or even Morrowind, (my vista laptop still drops an occasional frame on the halo demo) so I will spring for the console version and accept that I miss out on the user created mods, that being said I would like to see more developers supporting user created content on the consoles, respect to halo3 and LBP for this feautre. If console gaming ever enjoys the same level of user creation as the PC I will be very surprised.

Same reason people go to the pub instead of brewing their own. Some people have no interest in building their own, even if they're perfectly capable of it, and would rather pay for someone else to do the work instead.

I completely agree PC gaming is better than console gaming. However the recession you speak of is forecast to last until 2010. The next generation of console hardware is forcast to be released in 2010/2011. By the time the recession will be over and usuually following a recession there is an economic boom. So by the time the next versions of consoles will be released everyone will have tons of money to afford them.

Oh so sins of a solar empire, dawn of war 2, empire total war, and SUPERIOR multiplats are all warcraft/sims expansion?

Stop using GTA4 as the only argument. There are tons of other games that are far superior on PC games.

Consoles are not going away, but they will be changing drastically. In ways, that will surprise many here.Microsoft and Sony gave a talk about this to developers.
