I reccomend getting the Valve complete pack. It's $100 USD(may go down to $80 for the holidays like it did last year) but comes with a lot of games. It comes with the Half Life series, all CS games, Left 4 Dead, TFC and TF2, Day of Defeat, and Portal. Chances are you'll like atleast one of the games probably more.

thefsmlol
This. Also, Crysis and Warhead, The Witcher, The Stalkers are good, but you NEED the patches to play them correctly, Deus Ex, Fallout 1 and 2, Vampire: The Masquerade (With patches), also World in Conflict, and Company of Heroes. This is just to name a few, that's only touching on the exemplary amount of PC games available.

I know what you mean I've been trying to get into PC gaming more but I just don't like it as much. The only genres I prefer on the PC are MMOs, RTS, and Sims. I bought both Oblivion and Call of Duty 4 for PC and I just didn't like using the keyboard. The mouse is nice for aiming in FPS but the keyboard can be aggravating cause theirs so many buttons. I actually just re bought Oblivion and CoD4 for the 360.Zero5000X

srsly PC oblivion IS HUGELY superior to 360 oblivion. i do have a 360 btw. but with oblivion all your content= free also you get extra player made content free

and finally better graphics

Never had a issue with Fallout 3. It only crashed two times or whatever, but i save game frequently.

GTA 4 on the other hand is just a pretty bad port it's not even funny.

My point is, leaning is already a solved problem. Console FPS don't need lean buttons because a better solution already exists. P

lowe0

Actualy Vietcong2 had a FPP cover system AFAIR.

And no...cover system isn't better solution than leaning.

To put it another way - what does a lean key allow you to do that a cover system does not?

lowe0
Actualy cover system allows you to do more than leaning, which is why it's a horrible idea in any game that pretends to be realistic

So after all this talk about the PC gaming being superior to console gaming, I decided to pick up a nice computer and two games (GTAIV, Fallout 3).

Logan832

It would be a good idea to play some real PCgames before you judge the platform, not ports from consoles :)

there are always fixes or ways around problems. a quick internet search should find plenty of possible solutions to your problem.

the only game i have had any sort of issues with what so ever in the last few years is gta iv and that was because i had a problem with my .netframework. once that was updated it has run perfectly well. when you tweak the graphic settings (and realise no matter how good your rig is you're not likely to get even close to maxing it - a hard pill to swallow for most pc gamers ;) ) the game runs and looks fantatstic

After installing Fallout 3 I can play the game for around a minute before it decides to just crash. My computer can run it just fine, as the game reccomended I play on High settings.

So after all this talk about the PC gaming being superior to console gaming, I decided to pick up a nice computer and two games (GTAIV, Fallout 3). I hooked it up and tried to install and play both games, but ive yet to have the oppurtunity to play either. After installing Fallout 3 I can play the game for around a minute before it decides to just crash. My computer can run it just fine, as the game reccomended I play on High settings.

GTAIV.... Is just a horrible mess to simply start playing. Im still trying to get through this process. I believe its just the whole games for windows LIVE situation thats ruining my gaming experience, and it appears im not the only one having problems with GTAIV for the PC (reading an article posted on N4G). Im not giving up on it, but as of now I really don't care how much better games look on the PC. The simplicity to pick up and play a game for the consoles is definently a benefit.

Logan832
i hope you're joking when you own a ps3, i own a ps3 also, but seriously put in and play games is not it's strong point, to install a game on pc it take me a couple of minutes at most, ps3 like 10, and then even if it's a new game a new update is available for it.

Step 1: Download Steam

Step 2: Buy The VALVE COMPLETE PACK

Step 3: Buy Crysis (and Warhead if desired)

Step 4: Buy Titan Quest and expansion

Step 5: Buy Medieval 2: Total War

Step 6: Enjoy thousands of hours of enjoyment

Might even want to give an MMO a try, they have free trials for all of them.

To be honest I've never really had issues like this with a PC game released post-Windows XP. PC gaming on Windows 98 (as a 9 year old with little technical knowledge), now THAT was hardc0re in the problem department. I really must try GTA4 on PC, it might evoke some nostalgia...

Yeah I would have been all over that pack if I didn't already own a few HL/HL2 packages that came with about half of that, but its a really sweet deal, L4D is half the price alone.

We're all waiting for PC gaming to die, all these PC boys ever do is come in here and brag about there great graphics.

What they don't tell you is how much they had to spend to achieve these great graphics, and if you want the comfort of sitting back in front of a big screen LCD and playing wirelessly like on a console, then you have to spend even more money with a PC.

It's not worth it, the graphical difference is not that noticeable between 360, PS3 to PC.

Let's not forget the constant upgrades and updates PC's require, as well as installation time.

I went to a computer show not too long ago and they had a couple of Alienware gaming rigs there and the cheapest one was over $2000 and the most expensive one was over $8000, funny part is neither one included a big LCD screen or a wireless controller.

The $2000 model didn't even come with wireless keyboard and mouse, it's a rip off.

Go ahead i challenge any PC boy to find a PC with the exact specs equal to the PS3 for $500 bucks the pricier of the 2 PS3's on the market.

Please Die already PC gaming.

Thankyou for your informed and totally unbiased contribution to the discussion, PS3nut. Just because YOU, almighty one, do not like to game on PC, does that mean everyone else has to think like that? What makes your preference any more valid than the next man's? The PC does NOT compete in exactly the same market as the PS3/360, just as the Wii doesn't, and just as the handhelds don't.

And by the way, it's easy to find a PC with PS3-equivalent hardware for that price. Or a third of that price, more likely. It's called a 3-year-old midrange computer. Though it certainly wouldn't run games at the same quality or framerate a PS3 would, because the PS3 is a very specific, uniform piece of kit, allowing optimisation. If you got a developer and told them to optimise for THAT exact PC's set-up, however, you'd get a game that ran just as well as on the PS3.

dont get me wrong now, consoeles are great, they provide an assorment of genres with great strength in those genres(platformers, Jrpgs, sports, racing, etc), i plan to get a ps3 very soon, i really dont care whether u like pc gaming or not, its not for everyone, but this is a very silly post...

motherboard - 54

GPU - 115

CPU - 120

PSU - 50

RAM - 33

HDD - 42

case - 40

DVD drive/burner - 21

keyboard - 9

mouse - 40

for a grand total of $523.90

easily more powerful than the ps3, especially when it comes to multiplat game performance

and as for OS, im gonna count that as free, being perfectly honest, me and all my friends always pass around and share the xp OS disk, and you probably have one, since ur on a computer right now, unless ur on a mac...

and wanting pc gaming to die, because a couple fanboys brag about a little graphical supiority...wooooow, thats just lame

You are trying too hard. The great thing about PC gaming is that anyone can do it. You don't need a high-end PC, you don't need $60 to buy a brand new game, hundreds and hundreds of great games have come out this decade that are still fantastic. I can't understand when some PC gamers brag about the amazing graphics of Crysis and other games. The best thing about PC's is the backwards compatibility. Fallouts and Planescape are still some of the best RPG's out there. And the GTA4 and Fallout 3 PC versions are really buggy.

Me neither, i have both version of Fallout 3 (due to a birthday mix-up) and the only thing ive noticed with the PC version is that it looks noticeably better and i can run it at higher resoultoin. I think TC just picked out some of the buggiest recent games for the PC to try and make a point, the truth is you don't usually get those type of issiues with Fallout 3 on the PC. GTA4 is a mess granted but its a bad console port, go play something like Sins or Crysis or STALKER hell even WoW and you will see PC gaming in another light.

First of all it's not " Hardcore Fanboyism " to prefer consoles over PC's, in fact i received a terms of use violation with a point reduction for my previous reply to this thread, some PC fanboy, who really suffers from Hardcore Fanboyism obviously took it personally and must have whined to a moderator. Now i agree that it's personal preference and i personally prefer the ease of use and controller interface of a console over a PC, and i'm not forcing that opinion on anyone, and if i insulted anyone then i apologize, it just seems every time i turn around PC gamers are bragging about their graphics and saying if it weren't for PC's games there would be no games for consoles. Sorry i just don't believe that, in fact i believe that if PC gaming died tomorrow console gaming would thrive even more because those former PC gamers would not be left much choice but to come over to console gaming....but hey look to each his own.

We're all waiting for PC gaming to die, all these PC boys ever do is come in here and brag about there great graphics.

And yet we see countless PS3 vs 360 graphics thread where 1 goes on about how MGS4 or Killzone 2 trumps the 360 or how Gears of war 2 demolishes anything the PS3 has. In addition, multiplat games are compared where the graphical difference is minisicule, it's pathetic.

What they don't tell you is how much they had to spend to achieve these great graphics, and if you want the comfort of sitting back in front of a big screen LCD and playing wirelessly like on a console, then you have to spend even more money with a PC.

I prefer sitting in a chair with my back straight and with the screen being small enough for my eyes. I find this more comfortable but it is of course preference.

You can hook up your LCD and your controller to a PC so...

It's not worth it, the graphical difference is not that noticeable between 360, PS3 to PC.

No. You are wrong. Very very wrong.

2 things. Multiplats 99% of the time look better on PC. Crysis. That is all.

Let's not forget the constant upgrades and updates PC's require, as well as installation time.

For MGS4, I had to wait through 2-3 minutes installation of each section of the game. All while looking at Solid snake smoke. Not bad right? But even when I had already beat the game once, and was on my second playthrough, I had to install yet ANOTHER time. PC is just 1 time installation and that's it.

Constant upgrades and updates? Both are optional. Patches however, make the game better (usually) and most consoles have system updates and are recieving patches too.

I went to a computer show not too long ago and they had a couple of Alienware gaming rigs there and the cheapest one was over $2000 and the most expensive one was over $8000, funny part is neither one included a big LCD screen or a wireless controller.

Alienware is notorious for overpriced computers. Building your own computer is definitely cheaper.

The $2000 model didn't even come with wireless keyboard and mouse, it's a rip off.

My ps3 didn't come with an hdtv.

Go ahead i challenge any PC boy to find a PC with the exact specs equal to the PS3 for $500 bucks the pricier of the 2 PS3's on the market.

Please Die already PC gaming.

No. Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Dawn of war 2, and Empire total war are all exclusive on PC. Great games that will be played for years. Same can not be said for console games.

'Games for windows live!' is terrible and GTA4 is simpley a port and Fallout 3 was largely made for the console market. Get the Orange Box and try that or anything else by Valve. Also you can try some stratergy games and if you like games with great stories pick op Oblivion.

Alienwares are horrible buys anyway. Installation is a good thing. You don't have to put the disk in again and there is faster loading times. You're going to pay a premium for high end hardware. If you can't afford it or don't want to pay it that's fine but if you love to be up to date it's worth it. And, if you're serious about gaming you'll use a wired mouse at a desk. You won't ever run out of batteries in game, wireless can mess up so you lose control, and it is much easier to play a game with a mouse at a desk(for most genres).

There is that but also it was at a show. I went to the MPH prestige show a couple of months ago and the main atractions were the Lambos, Ferraris ect, no one goes to a car show to see in the same cars that they could seen in the average supermarket car park. It's the same with car shows you want to see the best of the best, something rare and different not a standard office PC.

Of course not. But it IS hardcore fanboyism to say "Please hurry up and die PC gaming.":|

Yeah, Pc gaimng just aint for you, and that's okay. But to wish it were dead, just because you don't like it? Dude, seriously?

in fact i believe that if PC gaming died tomorrow console gaming would thrive even more because those former PC gamers would not be left much choice but to come over to console gaming....but hey look to each his own. PS3nut

Well most of the PC gamers already have consoles but for some crazy reason of their own, they prefer PC gaming more. The same situation is with console players who own gaming PCs.

Again, choice - one of life's most belovable "features". Why would you want to take choice from people by killing something you dislike?

Sure, in some dark corners you'll find some crazy dudes who bash on console gaming like nuts, and vice versa. But that doesn't mean ALL PC gamers are like that. Heck, I'm not like that. Of course, I hate when some multiplat gets ported like crap onto PC and, dunno, forcing me to use controller instead kb/mouse, and that's when I really HATE console gaming, but I surely don't want console gaming dead. In fact, it's my own fault I bougt that piece of crap game.

At the end of the day, Alienware has it's own customer base. They know what's their public - HARDCORE. I mean, I, a die-hard PC gamer would never buy a Alienware PC. Why? Because it's a) WAY too expensive; b) most of the price goes for the brand; c) I can build a cheap-arse monster by myself.
Okay, sure, PC gaming has many flaws. Way too many different hardware setups etc, but it's gonna get sorted-out. In the end, with all of this bull PC gaming offers, the main reason PC gamers love PC gaming is - choice. It's an open platform, do whatever you want with it. It's your risk, it's your choice.

[QUOTE="markop2003"] Well PC gamers are right in saying that there wouldn't be consiole gaming with out PC gaming as PCs are used to make console games so it's logically easyer to make them rrun on PCs...

I see this all the time, and it's great, because it's an easy way to identify people who have never written a line of code in their lives, and who therefore have no idea what they're talking about. Do you think the software on your cell phone was written on another phone? If it was written on a PC, does that make the PC a better phone than your phone? Just because the code was written in a text editor or IDE on a PC doesn't mean it's meant to run on a PC.
