it's not your type of game. it's one of the best games released so far this generation.
it's a shame you don't like it.
I completely agree. It has some good aspects, but all of that is bogged down by awful graphics, "difficulty", repetition (Nothing changes....EVER), and no story to really care about. It was very forgetable and should not have won GOTY.
PS - pitch black levels are not fun.
Who honestly likes repetition, especially in your entertainment? I guess I made this thread to try and persuade you guys to talk me back into playing DS, because I don't want to waste $30 :Pit's not your type of game. it's one of the best games released so far this generation.

my thoughts exactly.
[QUOTE="Dead-Memories"]Who honestly likes repetition, especially in your entertainment? I guess I made this thread to try and persuade you guys to talk me back into playing DS, because I don't want to waste $30 :P there's a certain charm in the setting, the developers were skilled enough to make it refreshing to play every playthrough, even thought it was reptitive, that speaks measuresit's not your type of game. it's one of the best games released so far this generation.

i know i'm not the only one that's played it through more than 5 times, I love it.
Because Demon's Souls brought the Difficulty in games to a Whole New Level.
Uncharted 2 just brought Cinematics to a whole new level.

Who honestly likes repetition, especially in your entertainment? I guess I made this thread to try and persuade you guys to talk me back into playing DS, because I don't want to waste $30 :P Sell it... that way you won't waste $30. It is obvious you don't WANT to like the game and the fact that you are asking a gaming forum why YOU should like a game you currently don't proves that.Maybe because it's a much different game that was bold enough to blend really old school type gameplay with brand new stuff?
That whole difficulty level you're having a problem with is pretty much the biggest reasons it won. How many games are that punishing to play today? None. We are so used to health regen (I like health regen btw), tons of shortly placed checkpoints, short campaigns, and progression that does not make you think about your next move when leveling up a character.
Games have gotten easier because old school games were not just difficult, they were frustrating. However most game today are way to easy, and there are reasons for this as well. Demon's Souls dared to go up against modern RPGs (which are usually really light on the difficulty) and really bring the RPG back to what it originally was.
FPSs shorter length and easier difficulty have actually improved the genre, giving the player a story to focus on, refocusing the game on the action, getting rid of the frustration. However RPGs are getting the same treatment and it just doesn't work as well. RPGs should be more punishing and you should have to really think about ever move you make. That was part of the reward back in the day.
because they never played Diablo 2

I am assuming you are saying Diablo II is far superior (different, but similar in ways), in which case I would completely agree. I was expecting Demons Souls to be like a 3D diablo 1.5 (more like diablo I but a bit more customization and such like Diablo II), but in reality it just lacked a lot.

Yup Demon's Souls is the only game with repitition.
i finished it in 40 hours. its not that hard as they say.. it just is tactical and doesnt pity you na dneeds memorasation of the levels. i did like it when i was playing it BUT i think it is way overated as a game. it has no replay value to me. i remember what to do and where the traps are. also it requires a massive grinding. also the biggest flaw is it's steep learning curve. Unique weapons ... someone must tell you what to do... same with with Demon's souls.. you dont know the recipies you must discover them... Nice game while it lasts but it surely has it's design flaws..
[QUOTE="RavenLoud"]That's all I was doing :P That is not the way to play or enjoy the game. :/ Pick something like Knight, the impact of dodging and blocking is awesome. If you go everywhere with shield up, its rare you'll have to repeat parts too many times. If you can't handle the game just play a royal and spam soul arrow.
One of the best thing about this game is the sense of accomplishment though...

Oh BTW.
Did you guys know that Uncharted 2 got Gamespot's Readers Choice Game of the Year?
Uncharted 2 didn't get Unnoticed peeps.
Uncharted screamed high quality though. DS looks and plays like a PS2 port. I'm guessing it gets better as you level up your character? I viewed the leaderboards and some characters were looking beastlyBecause Demon's Souls brought the Difficulty in games to a Whole New Level.

And even then, its really only repetitive if you want it to be. Want to run past everything and beat the game at level 1? Nothin's stoppin' you. 'course, good luck doing that, but the idea is there. How dare a game focus on the gameplay and punish you for being reckless. What do they think this is, a video game? ...Oh wait.Skittles_McGee
The clunky controls make for some annoying design choices in which you die because of them. Of course its your fault, but at the same time, its hard not to suck with characters that move like that. And then when you die you get to...PLAY THE SAME THING ALL OVER AGAIN! YAY! And you lose everything. It really is a blast!

Demon's Souls is far from a port. It's an RPG where you have to actually think for once, not just mash a button as your over-powered character cuts down everything in it's path or where you snap behind cover like its a damn TPS.
Because it is not a flashy 'me too' game that holds your hand. It instead puts the weight of the dark and lonely world itself squarely on your shoulders, while relying on it's incredible atmosphere and clever design to beat you over the head with your own incompetence until you learn from your mistakes. Which ultimately leads to an incredibly rewarding experience that stands apart from the pack.
Funnily enough, the King's Field series had these exact same attributes, but were overlooked because of them. I often wonder if From Software were to release a new King's Field if it would finally get the recognition it deserves because of Demon's Souls? Hopefully Project Dark will be a step closer in that direction.

Well duh, when you swing a weapon, there's momentum. That's just something to get used to, and I like it. It punishes people who get too aggressive in a fight, leaving them exposed. As for poor controls, elaborate :? They work fine

Yeah if there's one thing DS really nails, its sound design. Quiet when it needs to be (when you're alone and isolated), and epic when it needs to be (Tower Knight anyone?)Please Log In to post.
