So.. how long before the 3DS is discontinued?

Well the DS has been around for 6 years now. So naturally the same is going to apply to the 3DS. Only thing worrying me about the 3DS is the whole headache/dizzy thing. If when I go to play it, that happens to me, then I will not be getting my kids each of these, but instead will just end up buying them each a NGP as well as buying 2 more NGps for me and my girl. The goals was 2 3DSs for the kids and 2 NGPs for the parents, but who knows now. But regardless of what my household does or doesn't do, the 3DS isn't going to fail. It failing is just ignorant fanboyish daydreaming.

The Dreamcast was overpriced and had no killer apps???

it was 200 bucks and was online from the get go, with hardware equal in power to the PS2...which happen to cost an extra 100 bucks and came over a year later.

How about Soul Calibur for a killer app? Rayman 2? Chu Chu Rocket? Sonic Adventure? Ready to Rumble? NKL 2K? these were all launch...

no killers apps for Dreamcast?? how about these for exclusives...

So we've seen this all before with the dreamcast; Overpriced console with no killer apps coming just before the next Sony product, and inevitably becoming discontinued. But tbf the 3DS probably has more problems than the dreamcast, with Smartphones and it's horrible resolution (seriously.. it'l like i'm wearing a fishnet over my eyes when i play it) and the insane power gap.

I can't see it being more than 18 months, what bout you guys?

It won't but I think at one point they will quietly rename it and sweep Pseudo 3d under the carpet...I personally refuse to buy one...and with the announcement and realization *and it pains me* that MML 3 will actually release on the system *you had no idea how much of a fan I am of MML series* I still won't buy one...to this day I cannot even try looking at the 3ds unit at the local wal-mart it starts giving me eye strain almost immediately.

Wow, I can't even fathom how someone evalutes that console at this point and comes to a conclusion like that.

Get back to us when the NGP is cheaper, and isn't conflicting with people who want to buy the same IPs for a home console.

The problem with the 3DS right now is the price tag more than anything. When most DS gamers go into a store and see a 3DS they are interested in it until they hear the $250 price tag. Despite this though it should have a pretty good holiday season. Hard to justify spending $250 on a kid any other time except for the holiday season.

Eventually the price will come down and the systems will start flying off the shelves, especially when DS games start dwindling down and all that is being made are 3DS games. When people go into a store and see a new DS Mario, Zelda, etc, but then find out it was only made for the 3DS, it makes it a little easier to convince them they need to switch over.

I don't think Nintendo learned their lesson from the Virtual Boy: no-one needs a portable with 3D.Timstuff

Was the V. Boy really portable?? How much did that thing weigh? Nintendo should revist the reality goggles for their new HD system.
