Down the track you could upgrade the CPU to something like a core i5, GPU to something like a 7950.

Set aside a grand.

That's about the price I paid for my rig and it still maxes out most games at 30 - 60fps and above at 1080p.

Probably $500 or $600 will get you a good PC that will last you for a couple of years.

Every 2-3 years you will need to upgrade your GPU at say $600 a pop to play the latest games.

so $5000+ ($600x4) = $7400.

You do realize that blizzard has ported games to console before, right?  And there is still a drawback to developing/porting games to console, paying the fees to microsoft and sony which would be a problem to many small developers
