If I was dropping a whole G on a PC, 7950 would be the absolute mininum GPU I'd consider.

You do realize that blizzard has ported games to console before, right? And there is still a drawback to developing/porting games to console, paying the fees to microsoft and sony which would be a problem to many small developers

How so? Many of the best games this gen were multiplat and performed better on the PC
And many didnt. AKA Dark Souls.[QUOTE="lostrib"][QUOTE="Sir-I_exCalibur"] damage control has begunSir-I_exCalibur

It didn't have performance issues. The game needed so little power that everyone's GPU downclocked itself to idle and dropped frame rates. It's a simple fix: create a dark souls profile and disable downclocking.
Next-gen console ports will make the current best GPUs run at low settings. Only fools would buy a PC, let alone this time frame.

Was talking about the online portion, but thanks for adding to its list of problems.Next-gen console ports will make the current best GPUs run at low settings. Only fools would buy a PC, let alone this time frame.

Since the conference hasn't shown anything that blew the PC visuals away, I'd say it's as good time to buy a PC as any.

[QUOTE="Sir-I_exCalibur"]I was thinking this exact same thing before i saw this thread  PS4 is now above PC, and even if PC gets a little better, is it worth the trade off? I mean, all the good games are on PS, even blizzard, a PC company is now PS4, so what does PC have left? Next gen, cows will dominate hermits here.lostrib

Why are you even trying to damage control Blizzard releasing their biggest turd ever made for consoles? Let Playstation fans experience the joy of a game focused entirely on RMAH. We all know this doesn't mean Blizzard has moved to consoles, and anyone who would say otherwise is trolling hard.Wait until PS4 and nextbox come out. Then you can buy a high end (high end by today's standards) system affordably and post a bunch of PC screenshots to show how PC is superior to consoles and how all the kids love hype and don't understand much about graphics.

Yeah even if that wasn't complete BS they forgot the operating system again so add another $100 at least.A PC that can compete with the next gen PS4?
About $600: http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/02/21/pc-gamer-vs-playstation-4-theres-only-ever-going-to-be-one-winner-right/
Somehting better? About $1000.

This if your not willing to drop a grand for a gaming rig than you're probably wasting your time and $$$.That isn't neccessarily true. You can do well with a sub 800 dollar PC.[QUOTE="Shielder7"][QUOTE="McStrongfast"]It's always around $1000.heretrix
true but it really depends on what your doing and the sales going on and so on. 600$ is entry level to make a real gaming pc. Anything less then that and it most likely will have to cut a few corners.

Also what people are missing is that if you skimp on a video card now you might be stuck with lower quality visuals for up to date games, but you can pretty play the vast array of older gems that still fun to play. Then when you have more money you can spend it on the good video card and get a better visual quality.
With Consoles you can't do that. You are stuck with the same visual quality no matter what you do and without BC compatibility you are either stuck with having the older console (if it still works) and the newer one to play your library. PC games have to go back quite a ways before they become unplayable and even then it's usually a matter of changing a few settings or getting a patch, at the very worst using something like DOS box or an emulator.

Another thing to consider is that my older PC parts have gone towards making other PC's that I can setup my own LAN party with at home to play with the family. We can enjoy some of the older classics and some of the newer ones (such as Dungeon Defenders and Minecraft) together. So my parts just keep giving and giving while older consoles become legacy.
And exclusive console games would still look better lolIf I was dropping a whole G on a PC, 7950 would be the absolute mininum GPU I'd consider.

I want to buy a steambox I suppose I bought a game on steam excited, but first asked the forum if my laptop would be able to run it, they all assured it would. Then I started up the game, it was working fine, then my character started walking extremely slow. it does that every time after a couple minutes in the game. i was pissed! i spent that money on a stupid game i cant even play. im really starting to hate pc gaming...

if i was going to build one right now i would set the budget at $1200 which includes the os.
you could prolly get away with cheaper but i would want build one that can go for at least 3 years before the 1st upgrade.

So your ignorance is everyone elses fault. Okay, got it.
I spent $2400, 2 & 1/2 years ago for an i7 950, 6GB of RAM, GTX 460 1 GB GPU along with MB, PWR supply, Full Tower Case, etc. Everything I needed, monitor & OS as well. I upgraded to 12 GB of RAM and a GTX 660 TI a month or so ago for about $350-$400.
I'm hoping this will do me for another 2 years. I can run almost everything MAX @ 1080p somewhere between 45fps - 60fps, but thats more about the game than my rig.
So $2800 over the course of 4-5 years, to run most everything Maxed out. This has been my experience. Generally I build a rig, upgrade the GPU after 2 years.... then another 2 years down the road, build a new rig, and the cycle continues. It is a bit expensive, but I hate running sh1t on Low-Med settings.

not ignorance if you ask for help, a$$h, I specifically asked the steam pc gamers in the game's forum, since they had experience with the game. I sent Steam an email asking and they never replied..great customer service there! You could pick up a PC for a couple hundred that would play all games. But to play all games on high settings, despite the fact they look better than consoles when put on medium setting most of the time, then you'll have to pay a lot more. Not worth it imo, I kinda regret buying my GTX580

LOL.... so in 2010 you could have built me an i7 950 w/ 6GB RAM, GTX 460 1GB GPU, Motherboard, 750 Watt Pwr Supply, 24" Samsung Monitor, Win7 64 bit license, HDD, DVD ROM and FULL TOWER Cooler Master case for $400????
Where you shopping? Off the back of a truck? I know most pc gamers steal their games, I didn't know they stole their components for their builds too.
You couldnt even get close to building that same machine today for $400. Hell at the time an i7 950 ran at $400 just for the CPU.
It was all purchased through Newegg, generally the cheapest place to do a build.
Well, you could start from the article linked on the first page (http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/02/21/pc-gamer-vs-playstation-4-theres-only-ever-going-to-be-one-winner-right/), but it's missing an OS, and the quality of PSU in a $50 case combo is a disaster waiting to happen (for the hardware in the article, get a quality 500W unit instead).lowe0
I was seeing the same thing in the first page. It should be around $800 since you would also want input devices and despite what he recommends it's always good to have an optical reader.

I'm assuming that people can acquire mice and keyboards cheaply ($10 special from Fry's or Amazon). My preference is not to have optical or hard drives - the only moving parts I'm okay with are fans - but that's an individual judgment call. Please Log In to post.
