It's great.

Awesome picture quality. Even tho the games are not 1080p native (Virtua Tennis 3 is, and looks fantasic), the upscaled to 1080p games look great.

Here is the setup...

Yea, I picked up a Sony 42 inch HDTV last Black Friday for $750 and to this date, I still havent found a better deal on the TV. I was going to wait til 1080p for a HDTV, but this one was like a steal.

When I buy a 1080p tv, Ill just toss this one to the basement and put the 1080p in my living room

i will take my panasonic 42 inch plasma that does 720p over 1080p sony ANYDAY

plasma just BLOWS ALL LCDS away

A lot better colors, smoother motion, and better viewing angles. also A LOT better blacks, NO lag/delay either when something moves fast

my friend bought a 1080p samsung and forza 2 looked good on it,

until i also rented forza 2 and it looked STUNNING on my plasma

why? pictures wont do it justice.

also you dont see how well the plasmas handle motion.

also HDTV on my plasma is sick. almost 3d like. the black levels alone are worth getting plasma over lcd

most people dont know about plasma and assume just because its 720p its not as good as a 1080p

whne in reality plasmas will give you a lot better video.

GT4HD looked AMAZING on the plasma and only great on my friends lcd. if you had them side by side, the plasma is the much better choice

1080p is quite nice - I've got my 360 and PS3 hooked up via HDMI, and since my TV seems to prefer to run in RGB 0-255, I get the full color range as well.  Games look great, movies look unbelievable.

plasmas (panasonic and pioneer, the rest are trash) are MADE to last over 60,000 hours, thats about 20 years.

also I agree the bravias a great tv, but once you game/watch tv on a plasma, everthing looks second rate.

also your sharp aquos, has crappy looking blacks, they are more like really dark greys.

im not knocking your sharp, its just the way LCDS work, they cant produce true blacks (they get close though)

also plasmas have about a 0 MS response rate. during fast changes, even with 5 ms, you still get a lag

post i found:

for quality, clarity, and overall WOW factor there is no choice, plasma all the way.
Pioneer did some tests last year i believe it was for burn in.
They left a video game paused for several days and there was a slight burn in on the screen, after power cycling the tv, the burn in was cleared from the plasma fluid.
They did several tests with watermarks in paused and unpaused tv and cbale broadcasts, and ther ewas Zero burn in after many MANY hours of viewing the same channel/watermark. and there was no perm. burn in on the screen.
I think at this point in plasma tv's life cycle, if you get a 1/2 way decent brand you shouldnt have to worry about burn in. and the lifespan and quality will be what you paid for.
To the best of my knowledge there is no type of backlight bleeding or anything like that.
picture quality is much higher than LCD

LCD is designed for smaller screens, and durability.
Picture quality as i stated is not as good.
Price wise they are typically more expensive for a smaller screen than it is for a larger Plasma.
Backlight bleeding is ALWAYS an issue no matter what lcd you have. whether its right out of the box or a year from now, because of the heat those put off, the seal about the backlight and the LCD will start to show light thru.

when i got my Westinghouse 32" i was on a budget. and it was one of the best bang for your buck tv. and still is. even though now the new model has HDMI and 1080p.
When i was looking at that 32" right behind me was a 42" Plasma for $200 more, you cant imagine the torture i was put thru!
but in the end i went with the westing house. i regret it, not cuz its a bad tv,, but for 10 more inches, and a MUCH higher quality picture i could have gotten the 42" plasma.

its a tough choice but i'd go with plasma

That looks really good man. I'm finally getting a 1080p HDTV in about a week. I was waiting to get the whole setup though. We're getting a media center type pc with the hdtv and some nice 5.1 speakers to go with it plus all the other necessary things. It's expensive but well worth it.

This would be the product of a marketing brainwash. 5ms response time would only be "noticeable" at over 200fps. At over 200fps, your eye is incapable of telling the difference.

By the way, have fun with image retention.

.. not that I care too much about the LCD vs plasma debate. I don't need to wallmount anything. A cheap, jitter free 1080p DLP is what graces my entertainment center.

http://forums.gametrailers.com/showthread.php?s=de2144b60d14261577ebd00b16ef084c&t=107951&page=2

seems very familiar to your situation

I bought a Sony 40W2000 LCD TV a few months ago, but changed it soon to Pioneer 427XD Plasma. The Sony TV had the clouding problem mentioned earlier. Sony had a good picture and a very nice 1080p picture. The downside compared to that Pioneer plasma was that LCD has a bit of a washed up picture, the colours aren´t as sharp and in day light plasma was better. There is also a difference in response time of a plasma and LCD. Plasma has no delay. I noticed this e.g Motorstorm, but only after playing the game for a full weekend on a plasma TV. The lag is really small and might go unnoticed if you don´t have a comparison to a faster tv.
The downside of my plasma is that the resolution is not 1080p, but the picture in non-HD tv picture is so much better. Plasma´s mainly use 1024 x 768 and scale any material to this resolution. The difference in TV´s is mainly how good the scaling job is done and you get what you pay for. I bet most people dont even notice the difference between standard 1280x720 and plasmas 1024x768. BUT comparing to the Sonys 1920x1080 resolution, there is a noticable difference in picture sharpness to my plasma. FullHD is mighty fine on the Sony, even though the overall picture is not as good, the resolution and sharpness makes up for that matter.

...And my plasma has not had any burn-in images on the screen. And if it had, they only stay for a while until they become invisible again. This rumour/assumption is tough to break.
Sony Bravia 40W2000, even though I complain about it compared to the plasma, is still a good choice for a PS3.

I have the 37" westinghouse 1080P... ultra bang for the $$$. I prefer LCD due to its flexibility and low cost... Id much rather have two of these TVs then 1 expensive unit. Compared to the 50"+ fujistu plasma that I was used to looking at, I dont really see much of a difference. Its all about the source material anyway... If your not running 1080P source, then it doesnt matter.

i would take a 720p plasma over your 1080 dlp anyday. NO BULBS to fix.also much better blacks and motion

also your dlp refresh rate is most likely 5 ms plus. you most likely get lots of lag. maybe you ignore it but its there

also dlps suffer from something called a rainbow effect, look it up.

and my tv makes ZERo, NADA, sound. No hum, no power noise, NOTHING but the speakers.

Im done with this topic.

gl buying a tv.

and grive, next year its all chaning with laser tvs. look out for those

I just got the same TV.

I would be gaming in 1080p except the only next gen console I own is Wii... and being that the TV is LCD and super sharp, I don't want to hook my Wii up to it.

Movies look fantastic on it though (upscaled superbit DVDs and On demand movies). If Blu-ray wins out, I might bite the bullet and get a PS3 as a player (despite my hatred of using a controller as a remote) by that time they might have a game or two worth getting.

Agreed, I have Sony 34xbr960, and I believe it is still the reference HDTV for other HDTV sets as far as picture quality goes.

This may change once new pioneer elite plasmas will hit the market though.

True, true.

Im just going to save my cash for Black Friday and buy a LCD HD then, it really isnt that far off. Doubt i'll have the money for a 1080p (720p will cut it for me) but you never know...

Got a 1080p TV, but don't care about HD gaming. I got it for the 61" size and so I don't need a box when TV goes to an HD standard in the US. But you're right, it is nice and crystal clear.

cheap LCD hdtvs have really bad picture quality. The glare and bad black levels are the biggest negatives. You shouldve bought a cheap plasma hdtv. To tc, cmon if your gonna buy a HDTV and youve got the money choose a Sony or Samsung. Well sony bravias totally destroys samsung and sharp HDTVs, especially xbr5... cmon 120fps?

I have the 37" westinghouse 1080P... ultra bang for the $$$. I prefer LCD due to its flexibility and low cost... Id much rather have two of these TVs then 1 expensive unit. Compared to the 50"+ fujistu plasma that I was used to looking at, I dont really see much of a difference. Its all about the source material anyway... If your not running 1080P source, then it doesnt matter.

cheap LCD hdtvs have really bad picture quality.

FYI the Westinghouse is amazing. Most major retailers refuse to sell the LVM line on their showroom floor cause they look so good compared to the competition and they cost so much less that they can't sell their more expensive models.

Sweet, I want a bigger TV, and HD because I have a huge living room in my new house. But I wont be able to afford one for a long while because I have a new house.

Have you ever seen them side by side? I have. Besides a few more fine tuning options in the menu the Westinghouse LVM line looks pretty much identical. Over a thousand dollars more expensive for the Bravia series 1080p TV's. I think I will stick to my Westy until Sony releases something that is significantly better.

Edit: BTW this is coming from someone that could easily buy the highest end TV in the store and not think twice about it. I am not stupid however and I have ZERO brand loyalty so the choice was simple.
