[QUOTE="Tamarind_Face"][QUOTE="MadExponent"][QUOTE="Tamarind_Face"][QUOTE="Bdking57"]cheap LCD hdtvs have really bad picture quality. The glare and bad black levels are the biggest negatives. You shouldve bought a cheap plasma hdtv. To tc, cmon if your gonna buy a HDTV and youve got the money choose a Sony or Samsung. Well sony bravias totally destroys samsung and sharp HDTVs, especially xbr5... cmon 120fps?I have the 37" westinghouse 1080P... ultra bang for the $$$. I prefer LCD due to its flexibility and low cost... Id much rather have two of these TVs then 1 expensive unit. Compared to the 50"+ fujistu plasma that I was used to looking at, I dont really see much of a difference. Its all about the source material anyway... If your not running 1080P source, then it doesnt matter.

FYI the Westinghouse is amazing. Most major retailers refuse to sell the LVM line on their showroom floor cause they look so good compared to the competition and they cost so much less that they can't sell their more expensive models.
What? amazing compared to a bravia? maybe amazing in price but in perfomance and picture quality I think not.Have you ever seen them side by side? I have. Besides a few more fine tuning options in the menu the Westinghouse LVM line looks pretty much identical. Over a thousand dollars more expensive for the Bravia series 1080p TV's. I think I will stick to my Westy until Sony releases something that is significantly better.
Edit: BTW this is coming from someone that could easily buy the highest end TV in the store and not think twice about it. I am not stupid however and I have ZERO brand loyalty so the choice was simple.
Are you serious? Ive seen a westinghouse LCD HDTV. The colors are pale, there is glare, the black level isnt deep and it doesnt even have a built in upscaler/upconverter. Some Westinghouse HDTVs dont even have a tuner. Are you one of those idiots that proclaim Sony HDTVs are expensive because of the brand?[QUOTE="MadExponent"][QUOTE="Tamarind_Face"][QUOTE="MadExponent"][QUOTE="Tamarind_Face"][QUOTE="Bdking57"]cheap LCD hdtvs have really bad picture quality. Some Westinghouse HDTVs dont even have a tuner. Are you one of those idiots that proclaim Sony HDTVs are expensive because of the brand?Are you one of those idiots that just say Westinghouse is crap just cause they have had bad product lines in the past? The LVM line was an ENORMOUS success. I am talking Earth shatteringly enormous. I am saying that the very subtle differences between the LVM series and Bravia series are not worth the price hike. That is a fact. With the extra money you save on going with the Westinghouse LVM-47w1 you could also install a nice 7.1 surround sound system to go with it. That is actually exactly what I did recently. I have a buddy that works for Bestbuy in the Magnolia department and he was over this past weekend and he was completely blown away by how great the picture is on my Westinghouse. He told me that it is alot better than his Samsung 1080p he got a couple months back. I guess since Bestbuy doesn't normally sell the 47" 1080p Westinghouse on their showroom floor he had no idea how good they could look. Course you already have your mind made up and you have probably already made your purchase and have to defend it now. Somewhere in the back of your mind you have to know that the Bravia's and similar LCD's are way too expensive.
Now the question is now whether or not it is worth getting the 120hz HDTV's. Are they going to be higher res or are they just simply running on a higher refreshrate? This poses a interesting problem as far as console makers and Cable/Sat providers are concerned. To take full advantage of this technology all video sources will have to be no less than 120fps. Can anyone explain why this is better?MadExponent
I'm not an expert but I remember something about things running at 24hz or fps or something and since 120 is a multiple of 24 the image quality is better...also I think it should get rid of some video lag in games.
While not 100% necessary, anyone who owns a 360 or PS3 and can afford one really would benefit from it. After gaming on a crummy SDTV (which looked pretty decent mind you) with my 360, and now owning a 42 inch LCD at 1080p, it's impossible to go back.
Even 720p looks soooo much better than standard def.
People who hate on HDTVs just can't afford them.
[QUOTE="sarkis20"]i will take my panasonic 42 inch plasma that does 720p over 1080p sony ANYDAY
plasma just BLOWS ALL LCDS away
A lot better colors, smoother motion, and better viewing angles. also A LOT better blacks, NO lag/delay either when something moves fast
my friend bought a 1080p samsung and forza 2 looked good on it,
until i also rented forza 2 and it looked STUNNING on my plasma

Why do you have those labels on your wall?
I bought that same tv in march. I love it. It's a great 1080p set for the price, and with a screen that big, the extra resolution really makes a difference over other TV's of the same size. It has insanely good black levels too for an LCD. I just wish I had an elite so I could go 1080p hdmi instead of 1080p RGB. i've heard the HDMI difference is very subtle anyway.dcb
In terms of graphics, you most likely couldn't tell the difference, but the sound is a bit better.
And it's just one little usb looking plug vs 6 for the component and audio stuff.
please... stop trying to be a TV elitist.. how the hell does 120fps matter if the human eye... per film standards can only view 24fps? Movies are alll in 24fps so how exactly does this help?
The westinghouse has no glare... and clearly displays games much better then my friends 1080i plasma costing 3x as much..with matrix revolution running in HD DVD it blows everyone away.
Now lets go into all the worthless crap your buying into with other TVs.... a soon to be obsolete built in tuner and stereo speakers? Who needs this garbage that you are paying for in the price? The lcd market price has dropped significantly and companies like sony are holding on as tight as they can..attempting to inflate their pricing. You can be a fool any pay more for the TV if that makes you sleep better in night, but Ill live with my 37" westinghouse 1080P in my apartment 100ft from the beach in california with a brand full bolt-on corvette in the garage. Yeah life is great when you dont waist money on overpriced grossly overpriced products.
I feel bad for those that have dumped 3-5K on a TV. These will be passed up and obsolete compared to models designed to drop the market price in a year or 2 max...at around $1000 a set, Ill buy a new display every year.
I already went through all this with the father in law spending $15K+ for his Fujistu plasma... wow that was really worth it in retro spec...

Brand loyalty probably or maybe he thinks it is cool show the brand name of the stuff he owns. Kinda like a kid who thinks it is cool to wear a shirt that actually says American Eagle on it or Abercrombie & Fitch. I'm 25 years old now and I can tell you kids something right now. It IS NOT cool to wear a shirt that has the name brand on it. That is like free advertising for them. Cmon man they aren't even paying you for that.

Your eye accepts 24fps movies as being smooth due to motion blur - the film captures all the activity that occurs while the shutter is open, blurring it all together. While some games use motion blur for specific effect, it takes as much power as simply rendering more frames, making it somewhat useless.

yes, that is right, i am extremely loyal to sony, samsung, and panasonic.
I just want to make some things clear.
First of all, this Aquos SHARP has one of the best dark colors of any LCD right now. It still may not match the best of Plasma has to offer, but I love it. It has so many options around the black color, that even if you think your black is light, it has a scaler built in so it plays atuomatically the best black. I have it set to where it's perfect for movies and gaming.
Secondly, this SHARP LCD, does not have a 5ms response time. It has 4. The older models have 6, which is still better than 8.
And the picture is great. And don't forget that, I went from a 30" Sony WEGA HDTV to this 42", and as much as I love Sony HDTV's, this one blows it out of the water.
Here are some pics, with a crappy camera, that don't even do the LCD justice.

hey I JUST got the same tv, was wondering what settings you have it on just to compare picture.Thebutter
I have the Picture set to USER (defined) to:
OFC = Off
Backlight = +7
Contrast = +32
Brightnes = -8
Color = +2
Tint = 0
Sharpness = +3
Black Expansion Setting = ON
Please...in return LOL at landlocked honda drivers with 5K TVs that try to put down others. Go ahead and live your life through a television instead of experiencing the real thing.
