So I was on the Gears 2 board...

And this guy decided to make a thread called "Gears 2 will be the king of visuals, hands down" or something of that nature. Everyone was agreeing with him, but I said that I thought that MGS4 actually looks to be the better game visually, but that Gears 2 will be the better game overall (prediction). Everyone then jumped on my post and thought I was crazy and told me to go to PS3 land and get a trophy.

In short, am I really in the minority when it comes to thinking MGS4 is a bigger visual achievement than Gears 2? (I know, Gears 2 isn't out yet, but we've all seen the HD videos...tons of em)

I own both consoles so I'm really not biased towards either game/system.

MGS is not a bad looking game but it does not look as good as Gears 2. I know many cows will show one of the thousands of movie screenshots though acting like it is gameplay.

While Gears Of War 2 does look graphically superior to MGS4 in terms of textures, MGS4 trumps that with its great and REALISTIC looking character models as well as terrific production values and a well-woven (although convoluted) storyline.

Comparing monsters, locusts and buff, steroid-and-adrenaline-injected men with guns and no helmets (like wth, headshot-invulnerable men, anyone?) to MGS4's high-polygon, detailed character models shouldn't even be a comparison to begin with.

Both games look great, period. MGS4 has the best character models in any console game, period. Gears Of War 2 may look like the console game with the best looking textures, but it isn't really that impressive.

i agree with you, but for some people its hard to state the above, because probably not having a PS3 they cannot have a proper unbiased opinion...

personally i find MGSIV has great visuals.... Geow2 is shaping up nicely and vids shown seems like visually its better than geow1... however i hope there will be bigger environments and a better draw distance in Geow2...

there are some levels in mgs4 that look better than gear of war 2, it's just not all levels in mgs4 are consistant, but overall it say it's better, then again I dont like the look of the unreal engine at all anymore

Gears 2 has it's moments of glory but there are some things that MGS4 does better, ie cutscenes and character models.

in his/her (Gears2TrueStory) opinion terms... MGSIV is out and many played already the game while the other is yet to be released and only a couple of gameplay vids were shown...

Am looking forward to Geow2 but i'll just wait till i play the game and then decide which looks better...

there are gameplay vids at 720p ;) and thats what most HD gamers will play it at. I was just pointing out that MGS4 has some qualities that Gears 2 will not have in as much abundance. And visa versa, Gears 2 textures will wipe the floor with MGs4's which i agree are bloody aweful by current standards.

well we have different opinions on whats a good story with great dialogue... good for you if you find story & dialogue in Geow1 better than MGSIV... those with some taste in story telling will surely disagree with you... but everyone has the right to express his/her opinion...

Also not having a PS3 and played MGSIV you surely cannot have an opinion on MGSIV's story.... you do realise you need to actually PLAY a gaming before criticising it.. but probably since YOU DONT WANT to buy a PS3 you think bashing it and its games will help you not regretting getting one...

why does every story need to have a milion twist and loads of boring dialoge like MGS4 got to make it good?

I loved GoW story beacose it doesn't try to be some uber complex thing, with more talking then doing anything else. It is great beacose it is a story where there is no **** around it's just "go there and kill these **** there is a clear enemy and a clear objective, the rest of the story just comes down to in which way to kill the enemy to get to the objective. And that is good, not everything needs 2h of character introduction with presenting their whole freking family and biography from age 1 on, sometimes people need to see some ass kicking, that is done in a great way in GoW and thats why I like the story, it doesn't want to be complex or present some over philosophycal point it just shows some brutal mindless violence.

hell thats exactly the thing that made some Schwarzenegger, Vin Diesel and Van Damme movies great, to watch a bunch of men with a clear stereoid addiction kick the living crap out of each other. :D

Its not an excuse, I just like to separate myself from the people who side with the one system they own every time. PS360 owners tend to be more open minded than the others who just own one or the other.

I think the only thing that MGS4 has going for it graphics wise are the realistic facial animations. Gears takes the rest of the trophies home on the other aspects.

I kinda cheap atm, so I can't fully judge MGS4 yet. But I want that game! Gotta wait though lol.

mgs4 has worse textures than counterstrike source. the models also look plasticy and way underdetailed compared to gears 2
