If your PS3 kicks the bucket after 1 year from laser failure or whatever, you're stuck paying for service.

Good things games are coming to the PS3 too. You can call it waitstation all you want. PS3 users will be laughing at lems within a year.
PS360 users have the best situation though.

Sure. Keep waiting and hyping. Lems will be here waiting to bring you all back down to earth. :)
THeres no great Exclusive shooters out for PS3 except Resistence. Killzone 2 should change that, also Haze. Of course, PS3 is getting Call of Duty 4 along with 360, but reports say the PS3 Call of Duty 4 is better.
Halo3 is the peak of the 360's game lineup. If you're in love with the games that are out now for it, then get the 360, but if not then get the PS3 so you don't have to stare at the games you buy now for the next 3 years.Spag1091INDEED.
This man spoke the truth^^

What you're seeing in these two videos are two completely different visual styles for the level that were tried. That's why the older 360 shot has a distinct blueish tint, while the more recent PS3 shot shows the more appropriate middle eastern feeling lighting.
You can also some differences in the geometry in the two shots. Broken walls, windows, etc... Every level goes through at least one "detail pass". The designers will rough in geometry and do a certain level of detail, but it's the environment artists that really make each level shine. The version of the level shown in the PS3 shot has been through one or two more detail passes than the one shown in the 360 shot. That said, all levels (single player and multi) use identical geometry and textures across all platforms. If nothing else, the shots show an interesting look at the evolution of a level.
Another quote made by a developer on on the official forums :
nah - take a good look at those 2 pics...that assets are completely different in the detail of the buildings in the background...we've said before the game is exactly the same on both machines...these are 2 different builds of the game..

I don't think I'll be here becasue I'll probably be playing superior games like MGS4, GT5 and FFXIII a lot.
360 is the better console for games period. PS3 is better for playing movies. There are good games in every genre for 360 while PS3 only has a few descent but not great shooters. If you like shooters on 360 there is (all AAA) Bioshock, Halo3, Orange pack, Graw1 and 2, Rainbow six vegas, Gears of War, etc. Right now there are NO great games on PS3 that you can't get on 360. In about a year PS3 will have 3 Excellent games that won't be available to 360 however none are shooters: MGS4, FF13 and GT5. 360 will have games to compete with these 3:Splintercell conviction, Lost Odyssey and the already released Forza2. You really need to look up the list of games for both consoles to make a good decision. 360 also runs multi platform games better than PS3. On another note RROD problems are solved with the Falcon chips plus 360 has a 3 year warranty on RROD.
Game console= 360
Bluray player= PS3
Also they outline some of the problems both games consoles face and explain a little about the CELL CPU. Have a read a let us know if you agree.
Here is IsThis4Real's comment:Its "simply" designed for very fast on the fly encoding/decoding (gross missunderstatement, I know - but I think for some it has to be put VERY simply if you know what I mean) - its specialty will lie in the integration of the home based setup.
This is something Sony mooted nearly 10 or more so years ago, the ability to have every single (Sony based) product in one house hold to be able to communicate with eachother. This is when they forst started announcing that they were working on a single SUPER cpu.Watch that space over the next few years. They might actually get there, but I tell you, it aint going to be this incarnation of CELL, thats for sure.
It is not even an ideal functioning model for multi-threaded coding, an area, which despite a few game companies have said they are able to pull off, is again, still very much in its infancy - especially on the mainstream level - ie to you.
If you really want to be "technical" the PS3 setup is absolutely lousy - plain and simple - for modern game setups. The majority of the work needed for the PS3 is not the so called difficulty of the CELL processor, but its lack of main memory, lack of video memory, and very slow load data-read speeds, and much slower bus speed, all in comparisson to the Xbox 360.
The CELL, despite what is said, is NOT an overly complicated piece of architecture. It has the potential to be quite elegant in fact.
Think to yourselves for a minute, peoples?
You have games on the PS3. Dev kits have only been out X amount of time. Both 360 and PS3 release are identical - dont be anal guys.
Yet, you will notice that the PS3 sufferes time and time again in comparison - just mildly - mind you. The issues being what? Framerate? Resolution? This are problems not associated with CELL, but less memory, fill rate, bus transfer etc. The only way to really optimize is for Sony to "cut the fat" from their supplied libraries. Thats it. Its very little, or nothing at all to do with CELL difficulty. The processors are a non event.
That will possibly be the only major problem for devs for both consoles in the near future.
1). Lack of memory on the PS3.
2). Lack of storage space on the Xbox 360.
Watch out for that one. It will be here sooner than you think, if not already.
Hence the heavy need for almost triple assest content on Blue Ray discs, and very heavy cache useage. But cheers to Sony anyways for bringing something new to the table. But to say that games that are comming out would not be possible without it are just plain rubbish. But not so if on the PS3... Its just a little bit different. Tis all.
You want to talk about technical limitations??
All it will take is one REALLY good game, yet to come, on the PS3, with exceptional graphics and very heavy scripting, and it will absolutely bring that machine to its knees. Just because of the Single PPC core, and small ammount of memory. If you have actually looked at the way the PS3 "works", it is a very laborious process !! There is so much to and fro before it even gets into the pipeline for post processing, any benefit that the CELL even began to pose is vanquished.
But everyone, just bear this in mind. The Xbox 360, for all the bagging it gets, is really quite a powerfull piece of kit. It has 3 seperate PPC cpus, which basically equates to 6 hardware threads. It has more memory to play with, a superior GPU, and superfast bus rate.
All the BS talked about GOW pushing the 360 is almost toss. Sorry. It was only running on two thread system. And even that engine was very buggy and "heavy" at the time. If not totally overated in its own right as well.
Honestly, if MS decided to put some form of a HD disc in it, Blu Ray or HD-DVD, the damn thing would be almost future proof, with the exception of the over heating, ofcourse.
Because, as it stands, the PS3 only has the storage space over the 360. Its not anymore "advanced" at all, and in many ways, slightly less.
Anyways, ive gone on a bit. Sorry.
Sometime soon, some dev will get around to managing the PS3 with a par excellence attitude. It looks like Infinity Ward might just be there.
Take it easy, guys. Sorry for going on a bit. -IsThis4Real's-

c'mon, we all know that the chances of the PS3 dying on you are slim. They have below 1% defect rate

wouldnt buy either the best systems are the ones that cost the most. 360 elite ps3 80gb those are the systems to have.
Also, PSN is child free, and free from feesAlbanian_Killa
That's quite a bold statement. Are you really telling me I won't encounter a single child while playing Warhawk?
Granted, I likely won't know who is a child and who isn't, because the PS3 doesn't include a headset for every owner, but I'd hardly count that as a positive.
I just sold my 60gb ps3 on ebay for 350. I only played resistance and ninja gaiden on it. Trust me the ps3 sounds cool to own (I have a realnice hdtv) for the blu ray player but all in all its a 500 dollar bluray player. The games are so poor and wont be good for a while if ever, and by the the new xbox will be out and I gaurantee that WILL have a nextgen media built into it. Go with XBOXnotoriousmatty
Totally agree with u, NOT. The ps3 is a great system if u want games for every genre of gaming and is a reliable system compared to the xbox 360 and all the failure its been through, but like most of the other posts I read on here, I am going to agree that if u want the console with more fps games, then yes xbox 360 will be the best out of the 2 to get. :)
Uh... if you like shooters, you need a PC.
Every shooter on the360,except for Halo 3 (which you said you didn't like) is on PC or PS3.
Resistance, Haze, Killzone 2, Heavy Rain, and Infamous will only be available on the PS3.
BTW... asking for advice on which console is better in System Wars... is not the best idea.
I think you should: go here(ps3) and here(360). Look at the games, look at thedates, look at the exclusives. Decide what you like.
Also consider: 40 gig ps3givesyou; wi-fi,hd media player, a charging cable, and free online play/servicesfor $400.
A pro 360 gives you; 20 gig HDD, no wi-fi, no hd player, no charge kit, and a $50 a year charge foronline play/service for $350.
You could wait for the bundled pro as well... although that bundle (and otherversions of it)has existed for a while and is only $20 more at Fry's and other electronics super stores.H8s2spooge
Not to mention you get 2 free games with the pro bundle, marevel ultimate alliance and forza 2
[QUOTE="mingo123"]shooters fan? buy 360 BLINDLY man, gears of war, GRAW 1 + 2, Vegas, Halo 3, time shift and the list goes on also in uk 40GB PS3 is priced same as XAbox 360 Elite with 120GB HDD, not sure if its same in U.S. but go for Elite! you wont regret it if you love shootersLazy_Boy88
Wait a second there lemmings. PS3 has more a lot more shooters than 360. All it doesn't have is Gears and Halo3..... and the TC said he didn't like Halo anyways. It has the multiplats (GRAW2, CoD4, Timeshift, Vegas, and most any future shooter) AND it has Resistance, Warhawk, SOCOM, Haze, UT3 (sooner and better), Killzone2.
It's funny people retain the impression that 360 has more shooters because it does not anymore. Prettymuch down to Halo3 and Gears as exclusives anymore. PS3 is really the console of choice if you can live without Halo.
wow no. mass effect-hybrid shooter rpg. perfect dark zero. prey. quake 4. bioshock. left 4 dead. shadowrun. timeshift. call of juarez. crackdown. condemned. call of duty 2. all are great shooting games.
I find myself stumped here for which to choose atm (Xbox 360 Pro or PS3 40gig). I have been looking for games on both ends that would intrest me but I find they both have similar games. I am a pretty big shooter fan and I know Halo 3 is on the Xbox 360 but it seems like absolute **** from the few times I have played it sadly so thats kind of pulling me away from the Xbox. If anyone has a decent idea of must buy shooters for either system, please let me know :) (please state if they are exclusive too since that would help my decision a bit more).CRUSHER88
go for the pro because money wise you can buy the system and a game and warranty and just with the ps3 u can just the system and warranty. PS don't think u shouldn't get a warranty on a ps3, my brothers broke the 2nd day he had it, he doesn't know why, it just wouldn't load any game up.
