Well Sonic Team has finally proven they can make good Sonic games, and have done so twice in a row. They're not classic quality, but it's a start, and they've found a formula that works. Colors was good, and Generatios improved on it to make a very addicting game. If Generations had some more zones and if the physics were a little more refined, I would easily say it's a better game than SMG2. Call me crazy, but I think doing this hundreds of times is way more fun than doing this.
Then on the other front, Sonic Team has been hiring talent from the fanbase, and we're getting fantastic remakes like Sonic CD. It shows that they're now willing to get their heads out of their asses, and are actually listening to what we want. Maybe if this trend continues, we can more remakes, and even a new game based on the old physics. Sonic has returned to respectability, and as a long time fan, this makes me very happy. :)

To respond to your Generations/Galaxy videos, the thing is that Sonic games always look funner when you're watching them because they are more flashy and "cool" looking, but once the controller gets in your hands, IMO, it's a different story mainly because Mario games tend to have better controls and more level variety.
That Sonic Generations clip does look awesome tho.
Well I have both games, so I'm talking from my experience. If you're talking classics I'm going to disagree with everything you said, but as far as SMG2 go, I'd say it's fun the first time through, and is easy to use the controls, but there is no real replay value. With Generations, it takes way more skill, and once you get the level down, holy **** is it amazingly addicting. I couldn't tell you how many times I've played Modern Planet Wisp, and yet it never got old. I played it so many times, that I ended up cracking the top 40, and in that time, probably have played Generations for more hours in total than I did SMG2. That all said, I still say the game isn't perfect, but I think the overall package is more fun and rewarding than any 3D Mario in terms of lasting appeal and replayability.
Just to be clear, I'm definitely not talking classics. I have a slight preference for SMB3 or SMW 1/2 over the 2D Sonic games, but it is slight. The old Sonics easily stack up IMO and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is better than some of the 2D Marios (like the first two). I'm talking 3D Sonics.
I have to disagree than SMG2 has little replay value. If you beat the game with 70 stars, getting the other 50 is more challenging and engaging than getting through the game. That being said, Sonic Generations probably has more replay value in terms of replaying levels over and over, but it doesn't have as much content.
That being said, I definitely see why you think Generations is funner and more rewarding.
