I played Sonic Colors and it was a great game with the best art design I've ever seen in a 3D Sonic, really solid level design for the most part (except for the occasional lazy stage), improved controls, and a surprising amount of platforming parts to insure that you didn't always feel like the game was playing itself. But the best thing about it was that it only featured speedy Sonic levels. Although I can't play Generations right now and was never all that interested in going through old level themes (would play it if I could tho), it seems like the game followed the Colors formula for the most part and is getting pretty good reception.

So has Sonic redeemed himself?

iOs and the console arcade titles are the only things keeping Sonic afloat ... they just released Sonic CD for iOs and it has pleased the Sonic fanbase.

I love the old Sonic games but I have to admit the series went WAY downhill. I think it all started when they made that piece of sh!t Shadow The Hedghog game, that was a complete disaster. It sucked because I bought Sonic Adventure off the PS Store and it's awesome, but for some reason they couldn't keep the series good after that point.

But Sonic Generations looks like it might redeem the series, but I want to rent it or try it out at a friends house first before I buy it. Don't want to take ANY chances.

Well Sonic Team has finally proven they can make good Sonic games, and have done so twice in a row. They're not classic quality, but it's a start, and they've found a formula that works. Colors was good, and Generatios improved on it to make a very addicting game. If Generations had some more zones and if the physics were a little more refined, I would easily say it's a better game than SMG2. Call me crazy, but I think doing this hundreds of times is way more fun than doing this.

Then on the other front, Sonic Team has been hiring talent from the fanbase, and we're getting fantastic remakes like Sonic CD. It shows that they're now willing to get their heads out of their asses, and are actually listening to what we want. Maybe if this trend continues, we can more remakes, and even a new game based on the old physics. Sonic has returned to respectability, and as a long time fan, this makes me very happy. :)

To respond to your Generations/Galaxy videos, the thing is that Sonic games always look funner when you're watching them because they are more flashy and "cool" looking, but once the controller gets in your hands, IMO, it's a different story mainly because Mario games tend to have better controls and more level variety.

That Sonic Generations clip does look awesome tho.

Yeah, Colors is pretty darn short as well, but it doesn't matter IMO since the game has alot of replay value and I'm sure Generations is no different.

Sonic Heroes was the best Sonic game I've played atm. Sonic Riders imo was pretty good aswell. Sonic Games just need to go back to their roots instead of doing all this wack olympic stuff..

With Generations, it takes way more skill, and once you get the level down, holy **** is it amazingly addicting. I couldn't tell you how many times I've played Modern Planet Wisp, and yet it never got old. I played it so many times, that I ended up cracking the top 40, and in that time, probably have played Generations for more hours in total than I did SMG2. For me that game made me hate Sonic Team more. Sonic redeemed to me something with Unleashed thanks to the day stages but Colors finally did it right.

Generations redeemed it easily one of the most underappreciated games this year, get past the voice acting and its a really solid game with a fairly good amount of content and side missions.

Sonic teams learned its lessons from the days of old.

I have to disagree than SMG2 has little replay value. If you beat the game with 70 stars, getting the other 50 is more challenging and engaging than getting through the game. That being said, Sonic Generations probably has more replay value in terms of replaying levels over and over, but it doesn't have as much content.

That being said, I definitely see why you think Generations is funner and more rewarding.

This is just my opinion, but I think that Sonic Colors absolutely sh!ts on the Sonic Adventures 1+2 and Heroes. I'd actually go as far as to say that Sonic Adventures 1/2, while not bad, pretty much started Sonic's downward spiral.

I don't know about Sonic Adventure, the camera is unbearable, the controls are clunky, and the voice acting is horrible. There are a few sections here and there were i really enjoyed the game. But overall, it was frustrating as the burning fires of hell. Sonic Generations & Sonic Colours are infinitely superior compared to Adventure.

That's pretty much what I mean. Once you get all 252 stars and complete the perfect run, I didn't find much of a reason to play again. If you just want to beat the game, then yes, SMG2 is much more full of content and is very satisfying. Sonic is more arcadey in the sense it's more pick up and play and is about getting faster times. I usually find those type of games to be more appealing, because it gives me motivation to get better, especially in Generations' case since you can compete in world rankings.

If Generations is anything like Colors (which I'm sure it is), I would definitely prefer SMG2 (but that's just because SMG2 is one of the my favorite games of all time), but your point is well taken.

I don't like Sonic 4 either. It's not even close to as bad as Unleashed or Sonic 06, but I thought the physics felt very off, I didn't like the level design, I thought it should have had more zones, and I thought it was just unoriginal enough to be off putting.

Liked some of the music tho.

Sonic Colors is an excellent game, and it escaped many of the pitfalls that have plagued the 3D Sonic games in recent years. The Wisps add something to the game, the level desgin is excellent, the music is catchy and well done, and there are some good platforming sections.

I played Sonic Adventure DX a year ago, and I was shocked at how badly the game has aged. The Sonic gameplay was still somewhat fun, but the rest of the characters aren't any fun to play and there are simply too many cheap deaths in that game.

I have yet to play Sonic Generations, so for now, I'm going to declare Sonic Colors the best 3D Sonic game I have ever played. I would even say its just below the Genesis Sonic game and Sonic CD as my favorite game in the series. Getting rid of the shoddy level design, bringing back the humorous touches(Eggman's PR Announcements, the less serious nature of the storyline), adding a game play mechanic that works with Sonic's game play and does not feel forced, some of the most creative Zones seen in the series, and good level desgin went along way to getting rid of the bitter taste of Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic and the Black Knight, and Sonic Heroes.

I think Sonic is on the right track. If the upward trend continues, the series may rejoin Mario as one of the premiere franchises in gaming.

Does it really take only two games to clear up a decade of crap? I personally don't know. I haven't got Generations and I don't have a Wii anymore so I haven't tried Colors. Personally, I don't care. I've played enough bad Sonic games that I'm in no rush to find out weather the next one is good for once.

Yep I liked Sonic Generations a lot, what they need to get rid of is the annoying voice acting in some areas and less cheesiness in the cutscenes. Other than that they just need to carry on with SG formula.

Does anybody know how powerful one's laptop has to be to play Sonic Generations? Cause I might go the computer route since I no longer have a PS3 and have no desire to get another one.

I don't know why that game got good scores in the first place. That bad camera didn't morph itself into the state it is, and it's not like there weren't 3D platformers with vastly better camera control before it. And controls in general. Age has nothing to do with it, it just wasn't such a good game in the first place, but the shock of a 3D Sonic with beautiful visuals, along side the Dreamcast was powerful stuff.

[QUOTE="ThisIsTwoFace"]Sonic Heroes was the best Sonic game I've played atm. Sonic Riders imo was pretty good aswell. Sonic Games just need to go back to their roots instead of doing all this wack olympic stuff..

Lol wat. Sonic Riders sucked. And Sonic Heroes was pretty mediocre. Sonic games are back to their roots now, though. Did you just ignore all the posts about Generations and Colors? Those olympic games are just spin-offs.

I do think that had alot to do with it.

Looking back, the game started alot of bad trends: pointless overworlds, shoddy controls/camera, too many unfun gameplay types that distracted from speedy platforming, and a weird emphasis on story (tho I will admit that I liked SA's stories alot when I played the game).

Well I have both games, so I'm talking from my experience. If you're talking classics I'm going to disagree with everything you said, but as far as SMG2 go, I'd say it's fun the first time through, and is easy to use the controls, but there is no real replay value. That all said, I still say the game isn't perfect, but I think the overall package is more fun and rewarding than any 3D Mario in terms of lasting appeal and replayability.

You, sir, have just convinced me to buy sonic generations.

I think Sega should sell Sonic to Sony. They should then rename it Sonyc. It would be even better if Sony bought Sega! The best way to bring Sonic back to its former glory imo.

Um, no. :| Sonic needs to be multiplat. Hell, to my knowledge, Sonic's games sold better on Nintendo consoles (not handhelds as I'm not too sure on those) than they ever did Sony's.

Haha, just don't go in thinking it's the best game ever, and you should like it. I will say to get the best out of Generations, you have to do all the Acts/Challenges, and you have to replay the main two acts multiple times. It's not a one and done type of game, and if you want to get good, be prepared to restart a lot. :P

Check out www.systemrequirementslab.com

The PC version gives the game a solid 60FPS, so it plays fluidly fast.

Sonic redeemed himself with Sonic 4

Miroku32

For me that game made me hate Sonic Team more.

Kind of unfair considering Sonic Team didn't make Sonic 4: Episode 1. :P
