Yeah, look at Nintendo, their things never break down, you can even drop it down the stairs and it will still work :P

aroxx_ab

But that's expected. Because it uses older technology, it can be a lot more efficient than both the 360 and PS3, and also a lot smaller.

it still happens alot, but your chances decrease if you install the game onto the hard drive. which doesnt help you if you get the 4 gig which isnt enough for anything

YankeesNYC4life

How would you know it still happens a lot when it's only been 2 months since the new S models launched? Even if they're unreliable, I would expect the problems to show at least a year into its life cycle.

Dont listen to these ignorant cows. The new X360 is as reliable as any system should be, speaking from owning oneshadow8585
yeah. the after paying 2 billion for a 3 year repair plain. i think the 360 s is one of the safest systems ever made. ms didnt make a slim just to save money and to get a sales boast like sony has. they made the 360s to improve the 360...

doubt it there were reports of the thing getting errors the day after the E3 conference

and it only has a 1 year warranty?

I'd stick with the older models. if it break you can usually whine a ton to an MS rep and they'll give you free crap alongwith repairing the 360 as long as it's under warranty and the issue falls under the warranty coverage

The new Xbox360 has only been out for about 2 1/2 months, so this thread is pointless.

I want to buy a 360 Arcade to replace my launch console (that was repaired once and updated to the falcon with the extra heatsink.) That of course got the RROD too, and is now no longer under warranty. If I did buy another console the total I would have spent on 360 consoles alone would be $650. There is no way that I could accept it breaking again however. I don't want to keep having to pay $100 to get the thing repaired every few years. Does the 3 year warranty even still count if you buy a new 360 now? Even so, it would be paying $150 for a console which is only guaranteed to work for 3 years.

Seeing how the console hasn't been out too terribly long, its hard to justify any answer of either side, and the ones that do give you an answer are going off pure assumptions. Unless someone can show me a link to the percentages of dead new xbox's, I will go off my own assumption....... They seem more reliable, cause mine is still working.

Yes because YOUR xbox is representative for ALL xboxes...Even if you're right, it took M$ more than 5, yes 4 WHOLE YEARS to reduce the failure rate from abysmally bad to plain bad. And it still scratches disks, and that's NOT under warranty. Yes, we are cows for stating facts.

How long it took them is irrelevant...because A( it didn't take them 5 years to fix the problem and B( the guy is asking to buy a 360 right now...so if the problem is fixed why should he care that it took them 5 years?

[QUOTE="Ratchet_Fan8"][QUOTE="coasterguy65"]

RRoD is gone for the most part. The only people getting it anymore are Sony fanboys. It almost never happened with the Jasper chips that are in the newer old style 360s and It's impossible in the new 360S (slims). A) because MS took out the red ring leds, and B) because it shuts itself off before it over-heats.

So far there have been very few problems with the 360S, and most of them have happened right out of the box, or in the first few hours. Probably about the same level of failures that have happened with the PS3 Slims (hardly any).

alfredooo

they took out the RROD lens..but there is the DOT! :o go watch YouTube Videos, they already RDOD on them *(or on purpose*) Also, the 360 (ALL MODELS) scratch disk if moved,so if your XBOX falls down during an earthquake, that Disk is as good as fried. Or if you need to move it so it can fan properly

I lol'd at the earthquake possibility.

Is that really something that we should take into account? LMAO

I mean an earthwake strong enough to knock down my console happening while I'm playing seems kinda unlikely. And that is ignoring the fact that I can just place it horizontally. which eliminates the possiblity entirely.

I mean, might just as well say the PS3 is unreliable because its more likely to get struck by lighting than the 360. :D

Its also worth pointing out that if the earthquake is strong enough to knock the 360 around shouldn't you be more worried about the overall console than the disk in it...or maybe you should be worried about that brand new HDTV...I mean an earthquake could knock it over.

[QUOTE="Ratchet_Fan8"]No,its still there.Always will be.its called Red Dot of death (or something like that) chaplainDMK
Well, yeah if your system fails to kill itself before it recieves damage. Basicaly, the RROD still exists, but the console has a failsafe so it turns itself off when it detects high temperatures inside... And i had it happan to me a couple of times and the thing heats up alot, so no, this thing still aint reliable enough.

Proof? I have ran my 360 slim for 16 straight hours (Netflix and gaming) and had no overheating warnings or problems. The disc drive didn't scream at me nor was the unit warm to the touch. RROD had been pretty much taken care of before the slim 360 was released with the new chipsets MS started using. It is too early to say for sure, but the design with an extra vent and fan and the new chipset indicates that overheating will not be a big problem.

[QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"]New consoles after 2008 rarely get RROD, and the new design can't get it period.HelloMoto56

you're correct.

it can, however, get the RDOD!

yep that image originated here, within the first 5 hours of it being posted, there were over 60 theads on this site, other sites, claiming it as that users failed 360 slim.

how long did it take them to completely phase out failure rates in the ps2? one of my ps2 slims failed... and the rampant ramblings and fake failures of cows on forums which happens a lot is not indicative of the majority of 360s sold. And it did happen cows would often do it, Hence the first red dot picture of the 360 slim which originated here was replicated quite a few times here, and other sites with the user claiming look what happend to my 360 slim!

whatever helps you sleep at night man, i must have had about 50-100 friends with ps2's and ZERO have ever had it fail on them, most of them still play their launch ps2's or circa launch ps2's as do I. i had about 30-50 friends with 360s and seriously the majority of them are on their 2nd or 3rd console. and im not talking about 51% of them, more like 75% of them.

Thinking about buying a 360 but don't want one if the technology is still unreliable. Anybody know if the new systems are still prone to RROD and other errors like E74 or whatever?

7ojistix

Well i have one of the new 250gb slim line 360's and my son has the new 4gb slim line 360, and the only thing i can tell you is the cheaper one that my son has is alot louder and takes longer to load certain game screens like Fallout 3.

We both timed it when we each started our Fallout 3 games and when we each left Megaton at the same time, it took 8 seconds for mine to load the outside wastelands and 26 seconds for his to load the wastelands, not to mention he gets many more glitches and freeze ups with his than i do.

Now i don't know if thats because he has a 4gb hard drive to my 250gb hard drive or the lesser model just isn't made as well but what ever the reason it just seems that between the noise, the long load times and glitchy freeze ups, the higher end 360 is the one to go with.

Oh not to mention, there have been no RROD's so far with our new 360's...let's hope it stays that way.

Technically speaking, the new one is incapable of getting RROD...

DroidPhysX
but it still can break down. They will just have a different name for it.
