I would argue that the Wii is MORE hardcore than PS3 or Xbox 360. The Wii is place to be for 2D fighters and SHMUPs this generation, and back in my day, that's what we considered "hardcore". Geometry Wars Galaxies, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Gyrostarr, Star Soldier R, Castle of Shikigami III, Blastworks, The House of the Dead Overkill, Samurai Shodown Anthology, The King of Fighters Collection, Metal Slug Anthology...savebatteryI agree it is also getting Rail Shooters like Sin & Punishment and hopefully Star Fox those are Hardcore with alot of enemies on the screen. But Rail Shooters are still SHMUPs the only difference is the camera is behind the character instead of either being from a top-down view or side view.

The Wii is quite literally for everyone, that includes the hardcore. Luckily, Nintendo has some good 3rd party games to back up their AAA offerings. They are now finally able to bring every crowd into the gaming world. I'm interested to see where they go from here.

I use an arcade stick, so it controls fine for me. It works fine with the Classic and Gamecube controllers, too.
Define "hardcore". When I think "hardcore" I think of the Neo Geo MVS/AES and the Saturn. Definitely not the PS3 or Xbox 360.Looking at the line up I still think its for casuals! None of the titles exactly scream "hardcore".

more then ever, why do u even askwith its new line-up of exclusives, who still thinks wii is for casuals or is it now(assuming it ever wasnt) a hardcore gaming console?

Yeah, the grandmas go wild for Sin and Punishment, MadWorld, Geometry Wars, Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, Castle of Shikigami III, and Guilty Gear. The Wii is for "non-gamers."

Whoa congrats, you listed a minority selection of games to foward a console perception? cmon. the Wii's success and selling point is LARGLY down to the non-core-gamers. And 2D games do not = hardcore NOW, keywords mate "back in MY day" yea? same for me? I dont see how MARIO can ever be considered hardcore EVER tbh. he wasnt on the NES/SNES and certainly isnt now.The Wii is for "non-gamers."

They don't... but the focus of Nintendo's efforts has been on capturing and settling in a new market. The grandma market.foxhound_foxNah. The Grandma market is more interested in a Neverending Story rip-off.

Nintendo has cranked out more "core" first party game than they did for Gamecube or Nintendo 64 at the same point in their respective lifespans. Twilight Princess, Paper Mario, galaxy, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Punch-Out, Excitetruck/bots, Battalion Wars, Prime 3, Brawl, Mario Kart, etc.savebattery

That still doesn't stop them from putting a lot of focus on providing games for their new market and doing nothing to counter the non-gamer image they have developed. Real hardcore gamers don't give a rat's ass about focus or perception. They care about getting good games. I've never cared if the game I was playing was marketed well or popular. WiiFit doesn't subtract from the fun I have with Fire Emblem.

SF4,BB, & KoFXII are all for Wii right?
WOW. I cannot beleive no one has noticed this yet. All Nintendo's exclusives are announced at the same time, every is saying "All hail Nintendo". Yet 2 years roll around, and no exclusivess, and we get a nice 2008 repeat in 2011.Then, again, "Nintendo sucks, down with Nintendo." 2012 E3 rolls in, same franchises exclusives... it starts again.
Really, Nintendo has 0 pacing. Their E3 designer should be beat to death with a Wiimote. Blotch of exclusives, dry patch, blotch of exclusives... continue.
And we get rabid Nintendo "lovers" saying it's "hardcore" again. It's not, it's an oasis in the desert. You watch, 2011 sucks for Nintendo.

I agree it is also getting Rail Shooters like Sin & Punishment and hopefully Star Fox those are Hardcore with alot of enemies on the screen. But Rail Shooters are still SHMUPs the only difference is the camera is behind the character instead of either being from a top-down view or side view.I was literally about to write this, you took the words right out of my mouth. Also I'd like to go even further by saying that the "hardcore" 360 and PS3 games (ie. Halo, Cod4, GeOW2, GTA4, etc.) are just as casual as minigame compilations, they just appeal to a different group of casuals (college Fratboys come to mind) and to some core gamers as well. Just think of how mainstream and toned down gameplay wise shooters have become, and how even nongamers love boobs, blood, and cursing. While on the on the wii there are tons of niche games that are the exact opposite of mainstream with extreme difficulty levels and complex gameplay. Not to mention the ton of old virtual console games like Zelda and super metroid[QUOTE="savebattery"]I would argue that the Wii is MORE hardcore than PS3 or Xbox 360. It isn't casual if you dont' buy casual games. You people do realize that when you buy your Wii, you aren't forced into buying Carnival games and Super Baby Land, right? The Wii is only casual if you make it that way. My Wii is pretty hardcore (my goodness that sounded suggestive!)
the line-up says something different. Metroid Other M was the only good looking Wii game at Big N's E3. besides, what are the Wii's "good" games cause I sure dont really like what the wii offers. keep in mind my OP was just a question. im only expressing my opinion cause it seemed necessary at this point. It isn't casual if you dont' buy casual games. Yes, it is still casual.with its new line-up of exclusives, who still thinks wii is for casuals or is it now(assuming it ever wasnt) a hardcore gaming console?

All consoles are for casuals......... I don't see why everyone is point fingers at the Wii. The wii just has more casual/ non-gamer games than the 360/Ps3 but that doesn't change the fact they are all casual. Metroid the other M and the two new marios are gonna pwn though.
