and Nintendo cannot turn around the system like the they did with the 3DS.

We all know Nintendo isn't just going to bend over and give up, but what do you think will be their next action?

Is it possible that this time they will actually spend some of that tremedous amounts of revenue they have and come out with a Juggernaunt system in the next few years?

Or do you think Ninty will just contunie to ride the WiiU for the next 4-5 years or cancel all support for thier system like they did the Wii?

Once smash bros hits the Wii U will take off. Nintendo's just off to a slow start. The console will be far from a flop.

Be like the GameCube and N64 and defend their position from being overflanked. Making a new system in the same gen to match the power of the other systems is asking for SEGA Genesis/Megadrive add-ons that acted like separate console failures,

Make a damn console that uses a controller that doesn't scare away developers and instead put that money into the hardware.

Mario Kart U, SSB U, Zelda U & A PROPER 3D Mario will turn the Wii U around.

I have a hard time believing that Nintendo would release 3D Super Mario World as their "new" Mario game for the system. It looks absolutely average. I am very disappointed.

I wanted a PROPER 3D Mario... akin to Mario 64, only bigger with more content... oh well.

Honestly I just think nintendo was in a bad position as there were no interesting games besides maybe super mario bros wii u when wii u released and even if they had waited for this holiday season they probably would still be screwed with PS4 and Xbox One coming out. But they have a very strong lineup of games coming in the next 4-8 months or so. I think they will pick up steam with releases of Earthbound (VC), Pikmin, Wii Fit U, Mario Wolrd 3d, new donkey kong country, bayonetta 2, wind waker hd, smash bros, mario kart and the other great titles coming.

They'll probably just continue with the Wii-U. I don't think Nintendo can afford to abandon the system. Even the Gamecube lasted 5 years into its cycle before ending with the release of the Wii. But you could tell the poor sales caused them to play it safe release a a cheap, marketable, gimmicky console like the Wii.

Even though the Wii-U has been floptacular since launch, I think they'll inevitably bounce back. I remember when people were preparing the 3DS's grave before Nintendo released new Mario titles. People said, "No one wants Mario anymore!" *8 million copies and 30 million 3DS sales later* "Huh. Okay, I guess they do." (love or hate Mario, he stills sells like crack)

But for the benefit of a doubt, if Wii-U flops this Christmas then I'll admit Nintendo is in trouble.

Nintendo will do just what they always do. The N64 and GameCube sold 32 million and 22 million respectively, that didn't stop Nintendo. The Wii WAS a fad, and Nintendo should have recognized this. They did not, now the Wii U will probably sell in between the N64 and GameCube (my original prediction was 40 million, now I am thinking around 28 million).

The problem is the Wii U just doesn't have much to offer. Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D World will not sell the system. They need killer apps. The top 2 consoles of all time, the PS2 and Wii, had major killer apps. THe PS2 had MGS2, Final Fantasy X, GTAIII, Gran Turismo 3, and Jak and Daxter. The Wii had Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Fit, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Even if the Wii U flops, Nintendo has $10 billion bankrolled - they're not going to disappear.  I imagine they'll either have to double-down on the console space and compete directly with MS & Sony (which I think is a bad idea for them) or gamble on design features to set themselves apart (ala Wiimote & Wiipad).

I truly think the most dynamic course of action for them would be to provide a PC-based client for their titles and put out all their titles on multiple platforms or partner up with Apple.

They should do with a price drop when either Smash 4 or MK8 comes out. That'd bring the WiiU back on track.

You make it seem like they dumped the Wii and had nothing.  They went to the Wii U.

They had a juggernaut system with the N64, the just blew it in other areas (mainly trying to go 1st party only).  Which they are kind of repeating the same mistakes again.

I think they'll just ride it out for the next 4-5 years, they may have already assumed that the system would be a disappointment and are willing to ride it out. They'll be able to atleast work out better online strategy, and learn from the pros and cons of Microsoft and Sony's machines.

Check out the Vita to really see what it looks like for a company to abandon their own system.

Nintendo games sell Nintendo hardware. Always has and always will. If seen on other systems, I really don't see the appeal and popularity of them living at all when there are other games that would sell FAR more.

FFS Gamecube had Mario, Zelda etc and that flopped. The only reason the Wii sold well was because of the controller, the casual market hasn't embraced the tablet so it's never going to be as successful as the Wii. It also fails to appeal to the core gamer with its weak hardware and lack of third party titles so it won't sell as much as PS4. Unfortunately it will probably end up selling less than the X1.

Yes, but I don't think they have the power they once had (speaking of Zelda, Mario, SSB). Not saying they are irrelevant, but NSMB has practically done nothing for the Wii U, and 3D World looks meh. Skyward Sword just kind of came and went... Nintendo needs to do more than what they are doing. I just don't see the Wii getting passed even N64 sales.

I think if the Wii-U were to become a flop like the Saturn was, I think they would cancel it and release an ultra powerful system. It's not like it was with the Wii where it was selling great; the Wii-U is struggling.

But I think the Wii-U will be fine.

Flop in terms of sales, hardware, graphics, online, lack of games, multiplatform, worse version etc. Yeah.
The dedicated fans are still there however but the best of gaming will be elsewhere.

Better off with a better GPU for those mighty steam sales or for PS4/Xbox One.

They'll play it safe but they seriously need games like Pokemon and Zelda on the Wii U or more new IPs. The new IPs now look interesting.
