and Nintendo cannot turn around the system like the they did with the 3DS.

We all know Nintendo isn't just going to bend over and give up, but what do you think will be their next action?

Is it possible that this time they will actually spend some of that tremedous amounts of revenue they have and come out with a Juggernaunt system in the next few years?

Or do you think Ninty will just contunie to ride the WiiU for the next 4-5 years or cancel all support for thier system like they did the Wii?

Lambent7

It will get a price drop and they will release in other colors like pink, yellow, red & green consoles. They need to discontinue the black one. Black doesnt match well with Nintendos image. The Wii U needs more colors and a price drop.

They'll drop the price, release a new Mario and Zelda, and sell millions of both.

I have no clue what will happen in the future, but I expect the WiiU to sell anywere from 10million-40million more than the gamecube.

Their problems so far are:

  • Poor choice of name and system design. People think it's a $350 Wii peripheral, and don't buy it
  • Those that do understand it's a new system also see that it's a $350 system while their are two other consoles that have more features, and play comparable games for less money

Nintendo's best course of action isn't to make a system that competes directly with MS and Sony. There isn't room for three similar consoles. That's the exact reason they chose to deviate from the norm with the original Wii.

Their best course of action is to make killer apps that show the strengths of the Wii U gamepad, and get more features that make the box worthwhile to have under your tv. That'll make the system successful.

as a life long NIN fan..it pains me to say..I wish they would get out of the console business totally. Im sick of their dumb remakes, selling 20 year old games like they are new and interesting, lack of good online support, horrible choices for controllers, and dumb small discs they use..Same ole same ole same..and the sheep eat it up..I mean the WiiU has NOTHING and its been out for a few months. What were they thinking??!!!..I say either sh^&* or get off the pot NIN..You either give gamers a proper system and games or leave..

Nintendo just needs to create somthing new or look back to their pass and recreate some of their old devices like the Power Glove, Virtual Boy & ROB. If they could recreate new ideas like those and market the devices more to women Coolyfett thinks the Wii U would sell way more.

Hypothetically speaking........ Lets say that the Wii U did fail. Wait.............da fuq? That already failed and the fact that they blew off E3 should be proof of this. Even Nintendo doesn't want anything to do with Nintendo. FoxbatAlpha
Except the Wii U didn't fail. Nintendo didn't blow off E3 they were there on the show floor and had a Nintendo Direct that day instead of a press conference. The Wii U will pick up like the 3DS did.

They should create a console going back to its roots of SNES, make a new console with a traditional controller, of course they shouldn't do this for at least another 3 years since they have a lot of killer games coming, only three franchised they need to release games on now (Zelda, Metroid, Starfox) and they could salvage the Wii U

It would probably help if they price cut it $100 before holidays, but they probably won't. I'm guessing they will afterwards though if it fails to sell, but by then it might be to late. I'm waiting until a big price drop, want to play me some Wind Waker, and some later releases like the next Mario Kart, Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101, Super Smash Bros, etc. And I hope they come out with a decent new Metroid or Zelda game. Anyhow, price drop is what turned it around for Nintendo with the 3DS, that and some better games, and new hardware (XL), so maybe a price drop and a 100GB HDD would be a start.

The Wii U won't go anywhere, and I've no doubt amazing games will be released.  Safe games, but still great.  We won't be seeing much originality and risks that they've been known for, and there'll be more and more reliance on established IPs that have been proven to sell.  Software droughts will continue as will many other amazing policies such as their backwards account system and lackluster online.  Excuses will continue to roll out, followed by more apologies.  When the games release sales will pick up and in the end they will become profitable, but just barely.  Hopefully at some point a change in management will take place but I don't hold out much hope.  The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior, so Nintendo's gonna Nintendo.  I would never be happier for a company to prove me wrong.

A couple of good games, and a price drop is all Nintendo needs to do to get me on board. I suspect the same can be said for many people. The 3DS was dead at one time too, and look at it now.

For the life span of the GC (from about 2001-2006) it sold 20mil consoles, the DC sold 11 mil in less than half the time and yet the DC was the bigger flop because they gave up.  The GC may have been a relative flop but it wasn't the end of Nintendo at all and I have said many times that I'm expecting this gen to play out similar to last gen with Sony clearly dominating by a large margin and MS only slighly outdoing Nintendo.

Nintendo is probably coming off of their most popular systems ever and I have a hard time believing that right after that they could have a premature death like many are saying.  The sheer volume of gamers that have been added thanks to the casual market will change the dynamic once Nintendo lowers the price of the Wii U if the 3ds is any indicator, thanks to the tablet like apeal and the wii remote's inclusion.

The main advantage Nintendo have imo is that they are more child freindly than Microsoft or Sony. Microsoft aim at dude bro's and Sony aim at slightly less dudebro's. The Nintendo has the whole goo-goo-gaga and "i don't know what video games are" crowrd.

Why release a device when your hope is that it will just "Survive"? Nintendo's handhelds sell great, but they are completely outmatched in the console market. Dont you think they should just ditch consoles and focus on handhelds as long as they can?

No doubt Nintendo needs to fix their issues, but the Wii U shouldn't fail to the point of them losing too much money. Better to turn things around while it's alive, rather than let it sit and die (which is to say. not a good idea at all to fail THAT WAY as even through it's mistakes, the Wii U still has potential to appeal to an audience with it's games).

Can't really see Nintendo do that. It was just last gen (after the commercial disappointments of the N64 and Gamecube) where Nintendo dominated with the Wii's success (sales-wise of course). Obviously Nintendo probably didn't think the Wii U would be doing this badly (which is beyond me considering how they basically ignored it for a year), so they might really have no choice but to accept defeat this gen. As for me personally...I mean I enjoy their consoles as secondary systems truthfully....so I wouldn't necessarily want to see them leave the console market.

They will do what they did with the 3DS: Put so many games on it thaat you simply can't ignore the system. They did the same error with the WiiU they did with the 3DS: Trying to please 3rd party by selling only a few first party titles. For some reason 3rd party hates Nintendo and the "we can't sell out games with the quality  Nintendo games around" argument from the Wii times are disproven by now ^^

The WiiU is such a wasted potential, you can have a system thats far more powerful than the 360/PS3 at a fraction of the price but Ninty decided to focus on gimmicks. Sound familiar?

I think if Wii U fails really bad theyll focus on 3DS and we wont see more consoles from Nintendo. But in order for this to happen , Wii U needs to be discontinued and Miyamoto retire. Something thats unlikely.

Release games based on cherished franchise characters on Apple's iOS.

Shareholders were calling for this years (yes, years) ago. *Naruto Quote*musicalmac
That would only damage them. Maybe it would sell well, but then what? "Hey mommy I want a 3DS!", "but Timmy, you already have Mario on your IPHONE you don't need a 3DS". I don't think besides a few games they've done well they could get most of their games working well with touch.

I wonder if they are going to make a hybrid of some sort next gen? 3rd party games on nintendo platforms are a write off and its very difficult for a company to carry 2 platforms at the same time all by its onesies. hell MS and sony cant do it and they are far far bigger companies than nintendo. so what if they could merge their console and handheld business? make a handheld nearly as powerful as a PS4 (we are talking 5 to 6 years from now of course) that can also be connected to the TV and played like a console? perhaps use some sort of wireless HDMI protocol to connect to the TV (basically it would come with a dongle that could be connected to a HDMI port). by then cart prices will probably be ok for 32GB carts for game distribution. ninty would only have 1 platform to support which would save a lot of hassle (one set of features to develop, one OS to maintain, one toolset to maintain etc). they have quite a bit of experience now with video streaming from a console to a device wirelessly and the wiiu is basically a big non portable DS anyway. if nintendo could offer one of the most advanced portable devices on the market that also doubles as a console without compromising the experience of either then that could be very interesting. of course ninty could still make games more suited to portable play for the device...nothing would stop them from doing that. the question is how bad will it be for the battery and how much would it cost to make? the tech will be there to do something like that in 5 years time though....hell most of it exists already (mobile hardware still has a long long way to go to catch up to a PS4....but 5-6 years is a long time). anyway could be an interesting proposition. the one thing they will not do is rejoin the hardware race in terms of desktop performance....never going to happen ever again. cue nintendo releasing a PS5 shattering monster box in 5 years just cause :P.

Nintendo isn't going anywhere. They made tons of money on wii and tons of money on 3ds. The wii u is flopping because it doesn't have any games. Once games start being released the wii u will pick up some steam. It probably wont be as big as ps4/x1 but nintendo has almost carved itself an exclusive chunk of the market where people need to play their games. I bought a wii u knowing that it wasn't going to get every 3rd party game but I have some of the most fun playing the nintendo first party games. Honestly galaxy 1&2 and skyward sword were probably my favorite games in the years they were released. There is still something special about the games they make.

PCgameruk

It came out in April 1st 2013, Coolyfett is thinking about getting a used one, so he can take it apart and turn it into a race car. RC cars are fun, the Wii U could be a cool race car, just need a good screw driver.

The WiiU is such a wasted potential, you can have a system thats far more powerful than the 360/PS3 at a fraction of the price but Ninty decided to focus on gimmicks. Sound familiar?:roll:GulliversTravel

Proof that the wii U is more powerful? Yeah, i know it's "stronger on paper", but i have yet to see 1 game that looks better than Gears of War 1/Killzone 2/Uncharted 2/God of war 3 etc on the wii U. Just show me one game on the Wii u that is better looking than those games!...YOU CANT! Gears of war came out in 2006 and the wii U is a 2012 console that has been out for almost 1 year and they still don't have one game that is visually impressive. What is up with that?

I don't care if the wii U version of Batman arkham asylum looks a tiny bit better and has a couple extra textures. That doesn't prove anything. God, it's the same thing every gen with nintendo. People claim the wii is more powerful than the xbox yet it doesnt have a single game that looks better than Black, Ninja Gaiden Black or conkers bad fur day.

People claim the Cube was more powerful that the PS2, yet it doesnt have a single game that looks better than God of War 2, MGS3, Gran Turismo 4 etc. And just because the multiplat RE4 was a tiny bit better than the PS2 version doesnt prove it either. PS2 has more visually stunning games that the cube could not match.

I'm tired of nintendo fans claims of having superior hardware over the previous gens competitors. Its not true.
