So, new consoles are coming the end of 2012. It will be a 3 way showdown

Wii U, the next Xbox and Playstation are all seemingly headed our way 1 year from now. It will be a hardware mega tsunamifor holiday seasn next year.

I wonder how this will effect consumer interest in the current systems? For potential new owners, why would anyone want to invest in a 360 or PS3 now? Sure current owners have many games to finish off these consoles in style, but i think a lot of "new owners" might be a little put off about how their new Christmass Xbox360/PS3 will be left in the sidelines in a year or so.

MS and Sony are not releasing a console next year.

The new consoles wont come in 2012.They probably wont even come in 2013.Games like GTAV and Halo 4 confirms no new consoles till atleast late 2013

It's hard to imagine new consoles coming out that soon without confirmation, but then they wouldn't want to ruin the coming holiday sales either by announcing new systems.

If they do all come out around the same time and the prices aren't too different, Sony will likely dominate the next gen.

Actually there is no way 720 and PS4 will come before holiday 2013, or mid 2014

720 has not even been hinted to be in development, WiiU is also not 100% certain for 2012, might slip to 2013, especially in Europe

What we know for sure is that Halo 4 is confirmed on 360 and they would never have a Halo with a new system, so at the earliest 720 will come in holiday 2013

Zero signals point to yes actually, 360 is selling better than ever and has the most exclusives coming in 2012 than any year

Also the most new IPs and Kinect is only a year on the market

Halo 4 is also confirmed for 360 in 2012 holiday, so there is about zero chance a new system would release along with that

Holiday 2013 is the most probable

8th gen is where I might finally bow out of console gaming. There've been too few new and unique experiences IMO this gen, and next gen doesn't look like it'll be much improvement.

I never understand why people are still wanting this gen cosnole to last forever as were still just playing most games at 720 p or below at mostly 30 frames per second. Also the sooner there released the sooner they can drop to $300 or below for all the whiners who won't pay $600 etc.

The only good thing that can come from waiting is that longer waiting times should mean better hardware hopefully and more chance of most games being 1080 p and 60 frames per second.

If they don't come out till end of 2013 there should be no reason most games won't be 1080 p and 60 frames per second as gpu technology should be a lot better by than as it's sort of stale at the moment but i think thats mostly because new consoles are being delayed.

Pc gamers than will probably be like OMGZZ 120 frames per second>>>>60 dall day every dayzzz in the future but the gap between 60 and 120 frames is a lot less than 30 and 60 currently between console and pc.

So that means for most of yall prolly on this board you won't get until end of 2015 or whenever they become $300 or less so you got another 4 years still lol

WiiU for a holiday release in Japan 2012. 2013 in the rest of the world.

Xbox 720 will at earliest launch holiday 2013 in US and 2014 in the rest of the world.

PS4 will launch holiday 2014 in Japan and 2015 in the rest of the world.

Doubtful, MS are aiming at the wii market with kinect and casual games as its main focus, if they manage to do it correctly MS may get a lot of casual sales due to its change in gaming direction.

They are coming in 2013, ar at least Sony and MS would like them to.... But 2014 is not out of the question.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if all 3 consoles come out next year.

Sony releases new consoles every 6 years.

PS1 - 1994

PS2 - 2000

PS3 - 2006

PS4 - 2012 ?

So it only stands to reason that the PS4 would probably be out next year. Yeah I know Sony intends to support the PS3 for 10 years just like the PS2, but they are not going to wait 10 years before releasing a new console. I'm not sure why people seem to think this is going to happen. The technology in both HD consoles is pretty much obsolete at this point.

So if the WiiU and the PS4 are expected next year you can damn sure bet MS is going to try and get the Nextbox out around the same time. Personally I would expect an E3 2012 announcement followed by the usual November of the same year release. Like MS did with the first two consoles.

Also to all the people saying Halo 4 has been confirmed for the Xbox 360 so there's no way there will be a Nextbox soon..what does that matter? Twilight Princess was confirmed for the Gamecube and we saw how that worked out right?

There is no way the new Xbox and PS will be out next year. These sorts of reveals/announcements are usually left for E3. That means June/July before they ever show the system. It is typically a year later that the console comes out as the model changes, specs are clarified, details of launch games come out, etc. It is highly unlikely that no real info has come out at this point if new consoles will be out next year. It is also very unlikely that when the main consoles are still selling well at $250, that they will push out new hardware so soon. And it is triple unlikely that they would announce a worldwide console launch (which seems to be the new norm) at E3 for a console coming out just two months later.
