I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if all 3 consoles come out next year.

Sony releases new consoles every 6 years.

PS1 - 1994

PS2 - 2000

PS3 - 2006

PS4 - 2012 ?

So it only stands to reason that the PS4 would probably be out next year. Yeah I know Sony intends to support the PS3 for 10 years just like the PS2, but they are not going to wait 10 years before releasing a new console. I'm not sure why people seem to think this is going to happen. The technology in both HD consoles is pretty much obsolete at this point.

So if the WiiU and the PS4 are expected next year you can damn sure bet MS is going to try and get the Nextbox out around the same time. Personally I would expect an E3 2012 announcement followed by the usual November of the same year release. Like MS did with the first two consoles.

Also to all the people saying Halo 4 has been confirmed for the Xbox 360 so there's no way there will be a Nextbox soon..what does that matter? Twilight Princess was confirmed for the Gamecube and we saw how that worked out right?

Technically, the PS1 only came out in Japan in 1994...and just barely at that. The real world wide launch was well into 1995. Sony's own plans called for a new console to come out every 5 years. So they announced a PS2 to be in 2000 (which they met) and PS3 in 2005 (which it was supposed to be but ended up seeing a year of delays due to BR and high costs).

There is no way thata PS4 will be out next year. It just isn't going to happen. There is no 6 year plan at Sony. There never has been.

Seems to me like Sony fans are the only ones that errant this gen to keep going because they either.... A) Want the ps3 to outsell the 360 before this generation ends or... B) Waited so long to purchase a ps3 because of the high price tag that it seems like this gen just started. Everyone else is ready for new consoles. I have been playing my 360 for five years. If you look at all consoles release dates since their inception, 5 years is the norm. I have no idea why people expect that to change all of a sudden. Wii-U is confirmed.

EA has PC's setup to the same specs as the Nextbox, they are developing games for it now.

And at least 1 first-party Sony dev is officially not working on anything, that means they're working on something hush hush.

Guessing 2012 holiday release, possibly 2013.

It already is different, plus Kinect is considered by MS as a new platform release, so will be 3 years in the market at least before releasing a new system, in holiday 2013 or 2014

It is expected that generations after PS2 last longer, since visuals look so good this generation and there is no much reason to release new systems when games still look spectacular

If you own a 360 or PS3, why would you buy a Wii U? Solely for Mario, Metroid, and Zelda, all other multiplat games are moot (plus, are developers going to remain as enthusiastic about developing for the Wii U once they have the PS4 and Xbox 720 in hand? Third-party is Nintendo's achilles heel). And I doubt the Wii U is going to undercut either the 360 or PS3 in price, albeit I'll give it to you that both iterations of the next Xbox and PS will be more expensive. But hell, I'll fork out $400-$500 if I know I'm going to have a steady stream of qaulity games and content for the next 5+ years, someting Wii never had.

Microsoft would never release a new halo the year they release a new console. Stupid business right there. Fall 2013 at the earliest.

I doubt WiiU will have so amazing things in its very first year to make MS worry at all, when they can have 360 at half the price of WiiU and most 3rd party games, probably more than WiiU and WiiU seems wont have much better visuals either, especially in its first year

Also people will buy an "old" console if it is cheap and offers a huge ammount of games and 3rd party support, remember how PS2 sold during the first two years after 360 launch

I am interested to see what Microsoft does with Halo 4. It really isa tough decision to make. Do they release it for both the 360 and the new system?Or do they release it for one or the other? My bet is that they only release it for the new sytem. I know they said it will release on the 360, but this will give many a reason to buy a new system. Though they will not sell as many copies due to supply and demand of the new systems. Only time will tell!

If they do make Halo 4 for 720, how is it supposed to run on 360 ? If its runs on the other hand, will only show that 720 is underpowered and its games could be done on 360

Couldn't agree more! People fail to remember Sony with the PS2. They were still supporting it when the PS3 came out. Both Sony and Microsoft will do they same this time. Also to all those saying "Microsoft only began developing their new system last year" need to stop trusting the internet. Both Sony and Microsoft have been working on their next system for a few years now.

i think i have come to a decision that most people on SW are 1.not very smart, or 2. little kids with no grasp on business or technology. no company is going to wait until 2014 to release something new, it's just not ganna happen. WiiU has already been confirmed to release in Q3 2012. the time is right for new consoles the 360 will be 7 years old next year. MS already admitted to working on the machine years ago, although less is known about the PS4 my guess is that sony is not far behind MS at all they are just better at keeping secrets. xbox 360 was unveiled and launched within 6 months so please stop acting like, just because we have not heard official info means no new console for years. lastly 343 can say all they want about Halo 4 being a 360 game and you can believe them if you want, but they never said it was a 360 only game.

I know Miyamoto said Pikmin 3 is going to be on the Wii U. Dragon Quest X will be on the Wii U along with the Wii version but the Wii U version will have better graphics.
