lol at the people saying "I have job so I can afford it."

Well I have a job too. one that pays weekly.

and I still think paying $10 a month, $30 for 3 months and $60 for a Year so you could use Basic Online Features for your Xbox 360 is lame and pathetic.

You could be buying groceries with that money, or games from Steam or just new Games in General.

Xbox Live is a thing of the past. Deal with it.

LegatoSkyheart

And thats your opinion. Deal with it.

I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and that's fine that some preferred the 360 over the PS3, but I do not understand how people around here can defend XBL fees :?

It's one thing if the subscription actually offered you something, but you're paying for something everyone else is getting for free.

-Patrick_92-

Bro it goes both ways. You can't understand why some people defend XBL fees. I can't understand why some people continue to ignore that XBL still offers more.

What exactly does XBL offer more than PSN? I can't think of anything other than cross game chat (Vita does it for free), voice messages, and beacons (a feature that seems pretty useless to me).

So you've just named a couple of features I use on a daily basis that, if I switched to PSN, I wouldn't be able to use. Thats pretty damn good justification to me (in regards to me paying for XBL).

I find value in the service because PSN lacks features I use everyday. Is that really an issue?

I bought the 360 on launch day and never once felt ripped off. It was the best generation and I played literally hundreds of games, and amazingly dozens of those were AAA experiences and dozens more were great A-AA games.

It's too bad that the next gen consoles seem to be going the Xbox live route. Sony being mum on the topic of their online service leads me to believe that they're going to charge for basic services. Before people say "get a job" blah blah blah, I have other more important priorities than paying to game online.

In the beginning of the gen, yeah XBL was pretty appealing in comparison to PSN.  That changed (at least for me) in 2008 when the 2.40 update came out and we could finally use the XMB in game, there was no real benefit to paying for XBL after that.  Then PS+ came out and made it even more evident that XBL was a rip-off.

And it's not like cross game chat is worth the $60 a year, Vita does it for free.

The main thing for me is avoiding 20 minute installs and updates. That sh!t drives me mental. Also much prefer 360 controller for everything except fighters. So to me it's still worth it. If I can get 30 second updates on PS4, I won't be paying for Live again.

The updates never bugged me, probably cause I play my PS3 almost everyday and keep it up to date.  For somebody who hasn't played in weeks or months, yeah that could get annoying when all the updates start to stack.

I really don't have to worry about updates anymore on PSN anyways, PS+ updates everything for me over night.

Sounds like the PS4 will be a lot quicker with updates and installs, if what they said about Gaikai during the Feb 20th event is true "the fastest most powerful network for gaming in the world."  Plus, you can play games before they even finish downloading.

 So true. Lemmings seem to like getting milked by M$. I don't know how anybody can defend an obvious scam like this. Sane lemmings (if there is such a thing) are probably mad about getting ripped off but won't admit it or they just living in denial about it. $450 is a lot of money that can be used for doing other things. You could buy games or upgrade your PC with a beefy graphics card for that kind of money.

Less then a weeks wages over the course of 8 years? Cows are so poor.

Not really. I pay for PS+ for about the same price and I get free games and discounts. Lemmings don't get sh!t for what they pay for. I already pay an ISP for my online. Why should I then pay again to use the same online I've already paid for? I don't pay for online on Steam and it's a way better service than XBL. It's not the money that is the problem, it's the principle. I don't like paying for stuff that should already be free, a concept that lemmings don't understand. Cows are not poor, we just recognized when we are screwed by a company unlike lemmings that like repeatedly getting owned by M$.

The online on PSN has always been the same. P2P connection is the same on any service. The only thing that changed is that PSN added more services like PS+ but the basic connectivity for playing games is the same. Likewise the connectivity on Live is the same as PSN and as any other P2P services and depends on the implementation by the developer and not on the machine. Live has also services like cross game chat but who would still pay for Live if the connectivity was given by Live Silver? I remember a poll made here and less than 10% of the answers were that they would keep paying it if Silver provided them the basic connectivity. Hence why so many people defending Live are just trying to justify their purchase since it doesn't really add or added any real value.

I've had the 360 since launch, and have had Gold that entire time. I don't feel ripped off. I feel the enjoyment I attained, far outweighed the expense.

I had a fulfilling experience on the Xbox 360 this gen. No regrets here. The PS3 wasn't as great as I was hoping for, but I didn't bother to play multiplats on it like I did for my Xbox 360, just the exclusives, and if it left to those I'd probably have regret, but I did get a BC PS3 and I still get to play lots of my PS2 games which look great on an HDTV, way better than whatever people can get from component cables on a PS2, and given that the PS2 had one of the best libraries in recent generations I still get a lot of joy out of firing up my PS3. My Wii had some decent stuff but lost steam later on, but I never had a GameCube and was able to acquire lots from that and that also offered a fulfilling experience. Overall I've been pretty satisfied with owning each of the consoles this gen.

I've been gaming on PCs before there was even the PS1 so you fail. Typical lemming response, when you fail at an argument claim that the other party is hiding behind PC. PCs have had online gaming long before your POS Xbox and we never needed to pay for it. PSN and XBL are still the same thing, P2P networks. Whether you spend $200 or $60 in the entire time 360 has been out you're still getting ripped off. That money could have been used to get games but I  guess lemmings like you are too busy swallowing M$'s johnson to understand. By all means keep on getting raped by M$ and coming up with excuses why it's justifiable. M$ will probably raise LIVE fees next gen and you'll still happily pay for it. I guess they don't call you guys lemmings for no reason.

PS: I don't wait 20 minutes to update my games, they do so while I sleep since I'm a PS+ subscriber, and even if I did 20 minutes won't kill me. I can watch TV or listen to music while I wait for my games to update.

I don't understand why people defend 360's online service so passionately. I borrowed my friends Xbox 360 for a week and the online wasn't so much better that I'd be willing to pay $50 a year for. om28v
Coming from someone who owns 3 ps3s and 4 360s. I can give you an unbiased answer. Xbox Live is greater and better than PSN period. But if 35-50 bucks a year is just too much for you then ps3's psn is the best choice based on what you can afford. Xbox Live is better is content, download speed, social connectivity, etc etc.

Lems know they got ripped off but I doubt many will admit it in SW.

$5 a month, $60 a year, $300 for 5 years, $600 for 10 years (not that 360 support will/has last that long) all to talk to someone who isn't playing the game your playing.

tumblr_m3qcqlkXa51qj47y6.gif

I also seriously doubt anyone here or anywhere has a launch 360 that still works.

So you've just named a couple of features I use on a daily basis that, if I switched to PSN, I wouldn't be able to use. Thats pretty damn good justification to me (in regards to me paying for XBL).

I find value in the service because PSN lacks features I use everyday. Is that really an issue?

RR360DD

Cool that you find value in it, I can't tell you how to spend your money.  To me, those features don't seem to justify the $60 fee.  Not when I can use cross game chat for Vita for free, check my friends list to see when my friends get on a game, or just wait till they send me an invite when they are ready to play (seriously, beacons seem pretty useless).

Thats good for the Vita, but its not on the PS3 and thats what people want before they give up XBL.

If PSN on the PS3 had cross games chat and parties, then I'd probably use that instead of XBL because I spend most of my time on multiplats anyway. Heres an example, me a my friends usually always send beacons to our friends lists when we have our own server on BF3 and want to fill it. Can you message all friends on PSN? Because having to individually invite your entire friends list would be tedious.

Cross game chat is good for setting up matches and what not, but again I don't think it's worth $60.  When I play UC3, I'm chatting with the people in my party, I don't see the value in being able to talk to someone playing Skyrim while I'm trying to coordinate with my party in a mp match. Party chat it cool though, not trying to downplay it, but I don't think it's worth $60.

Now that does sound useful, on PSN you'd have to send out the BF3 invite individually.  To be honest I don't know much about the beacon feature, only used it a little bit when I used to have a 360.  Again though, it doesn't warrant the $60 subscription for me.

Agreed, being a PS+ subscriber I'm cool with paying for stuff that gives me value, need to hear more about what Gaikai offers before I do subscribe to it though (and like I said before, hopefully those features will just be rolled into PS+).

I wouldn't really call auto updates a plus considering XBL game updates take seconds and system updates happen like twice a year. XBL also has cloud saves. And how many early beta's have there been? Again, XBL has had its own exclusive betas as well.

Indeed. You get a lot of value for the money you spend for it. If they add Gaikai features to PS+ next gen that will be the icing on the cake.

I may already own or not be interested in some of the games and yet it's still worth the money because you actually get something. Even if I only care about 1 game per month that's 12 games for £30/40. I almost never play online anymore- on 360, PS3, whatever -so Gold has nowhere near the value for me it once did.

I've had a 360 since 2006 and never once have I spent more than $40 a year for gold.  I've been very happy with my 360 (especially the first 4 years of this gen) and have no regrets.  I did however buy a ps3 in 2009 for exclusives, and sony already has me sold on the ps4.  Microsoft has to do a lot to make me come back for the nextbox though.

Was a Xbox 360 gamer for a very long time, happy about Xbox 360, but the online is BS, and I will never pay for it ever again, but the system is great.

2 years ago I bought a PS3 and I fell in love with all the exclusive games. I now love my PS3 far more than my 360. Still own both, but the PS3 is the lead system in my house.

Xbox for me only had Gears, Fable and Halo which are great but I am bored of these franchises, also Alan Wake was good.

As Sony still has new IP's coming out and wont let up, and very unique interesting games all around. Sony Spoils its fans.

So for me Sony>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>MS

It also downloads games while you sleep, it downloaded and installed Demon Souls for me last night.  UC3, Twisted Metal, GoW:A, Dust 514, Starhawk...almost all Sony first party games get betas for PS+, some 3rd party games as well, if I remember right the AC games had mp betas exclusive for PS+.

I just feel like cows have been ripped off the most.  For being hacked and getting their credit cards stolen, for having to pay again for ps2 and ps1 releases even when they already own the games, for having ylod and not having an extended 3 year warranty, for being excited for exclusive games they know are mediocre in the real word, for having mandatory installs, slow connections, so many downtime.  For having poor support for features they thought would be revolutionary (six axis, move, eye toy).  For paying 599 at launch with no games for the next 2 years.  :(

Cows have been the most ripped off this gen.  This is why ps3 is in last place and Sony is dying.  The mainstream already knows Sony is dying and cows are just grasping for any straw of life that Sony can muster for their systems.

On a serious note.  Its fun teasing each other on system wars but in the real world away from system wars.  Sony is dying and Playstation is dying.  Sony lost all the money they made on ps1 and ps2.  How crazy is that?  Some analyst are saying Sony's Playstation is the only thing keeping them alive. And of course their building.  But how many buildings can you sell to keep afloat.

It's okay to admit PS3 was a failure this gen. Sony is trying to wipe out all the mistakes they made with the ps3 with the PS4. I just think its too late.

It's too bad that the next gen consoles seem to be going the Xbox live route. Sony being mum on the topic of their online service leads me to believe that they're going to charge for basic services. Before people say "get a job" blah blah blah, I have other more important priorities than paying to game online. om28v

so get a better job or you can quit games, is an expensive hobby

I foresee lots of cows changing their ids after if this happens. They won't be able to take the shame of believing in something so hard the last 6 years. Then suddenly find out Sony agrees with MS. lol

So what have we learned? Everyone except the normal Cows of the forum have stated they enjoyed the 360 and did not feel ripped off. So Cows counter that with stupid arguments instead of accepting the truth. Broken record.
