I already own one. Have since launch. If anything I feel totally cheated that I spent the money I did when I did with these new drastic decreases coming about so rapidly.

You're not the only one feeling cheated. Sure price drops and sku revisions are common but having Sony scramble their PS3s so much in less than a year will get you frustrated.

I'd snatch up the 60 gig if I didn't already have it. as much as I don't care for BC it's nice to have and I can stash my PS2 forever.

The 360 has three SKU's, and soon Xbox 360 "Arcade" will be introduced.

Why do you feel cheated? You purchased a PS3 with the mindset that it was worth what you paid (either 600 or 500 bucks) Everything drops in price but you, knowing that still bought it. You shouldn't feel cheated at all. Otherwise I could say I fell cheated for buying a PS2 at launch and 6 years later it's now 100 bucks.

... what big holiday titles? I'm not being snarky. I just have no idea what you're talking about. I thought everything had been pushed back to 2008, aside from Uncharted. I'm probably going to wait for the next pricedrop or two, so the library can fill out.

Forget that then. Personally I'm just waiting until the Dual Shock 3 is out along with some better games. I'm not going to buy a console knowing that the controller is already obsolete. I can survive with 360 and Wii for now. And why no PS2 BC sorry but I need that man. Its the only way I can breathe....

Oh, I forgot to add: no memory card readers and 2 less USB ports.

Then again, you already said no :P

I'm just wondering, this is a general question for you or other PS2 owners out there: why is losing PS2 backwards compatibility a major deterrent for buying the 40GB when one can still play PS2 games on the PS2?

Just curious.

channtheman1

Because the only games I've used on my $600 investment have been a run of the mill shooter and a game I had already beaten twice, maybe?

Saying that you "can feel cheated because of the current PS2 price" is lame. I can NEVER recall a time where in less than ONE year TWO hundred dollars were removed from a price. What was the PS2 when it came out? $300 right? Guess what? It's $100 now... meaning it took SIX years for the same number in price drops. Whoa, my.

And to those arguing the multiple 360 skus, please, the one I chose to purchase at launch went almost two years before $50 was taken off the list price. That is a normal, expected change to prepare for the coming times.

I feel cheated because my $600 paper weight is now a $400 paper weight.

you could knock it down to 250, and the problem would still be that the 360 game lineup and system itself is still better than the psweak.......nothing has changed. JUMP IN AND GET OVER IT!!!

Right, but the 360's models have "upgraded" in price correspondingly.

Likewide, as the PS3's models have "downgraded" in features, they've also "downgraded" in price.

The order in which lower or higher-end models are being added isn't important, it's the entire 360 SKU lineup versus the PS3's SKU lineup that's critical.

I'd be running 6 consoles eventually if there was no BC and no I'm not the one who feels like plugging in a system to my surround sound ect every time I want to revisit the classics or finish some I haven't gotten to. Its a matter of convience and bottom line is its a feature thats been standard and now they are trying to take it away from us. Same thing they did with Rumble. Good thing we are getting rumble back.

the40GB version has less features, so i'm not that angry that they sell it for lower price.

1) no BC for PS 2 games
2) 20GB lesser HDD
3) no card read slot

in exchange for $200 less, i think it makes sense.

Yeah , I am not sure why any of the ps2 owners would be complaining. Plug in the ps2 and play it if you have to. I will have my ps2 just in case but I probably won't ever play it much.

I tend to pack redundant hardware away. PSX, GC, Xbox, GB, GBC, GBA have all undergone this fate for me.

I would rather have one box that runs three libraries, than three seperate boxes each running their own libraries.

I tend to be a very neat person when it comes to my house, the less crap sitting around on my entertainment center the better.

Side note: Kind of sad for me being a huge supporter of the past two iterations of PS consoles (100+ game each), now I find myself waiting to even start supporting the third. :(

The PS3 is and always has been better, three rings of death anyone? 33% fail rate? I'll go with something that won't break on me in 3 months! And the PS3 is getting great games all the time and more than the 360 next year as well! No BC is no big deal as I don't have any PS2 games anymore. People saying it is a big deal are just looking for a reason NOT to buy it instead of a reason TO buy ti! Simple fact! And if you want BC go get the 80 gig that has it! Problem solved!

BTW, you sig is in denial! MGS4 will NEVER come to the 360. Just deal with it!

The 80 gig has BC unless you can prove it doesn't. You guys demand a lower price and complain when they give it to you, they had no choice but to take some things away and you would have stopped anyway. Plus the GC didn't have BC and last time I checked to play GC games via the Wii you had to hook up the GC! Everytime my friend plays GC games he unhooked his Wii to do it...Unless you can link me wrong.

I'll wait until they pack it with dual shock 3 (you know they'll eventually do it) or until my 360 dies. The price won't go up anyway and right now there's nothing on ps3 that interested me, so I'll wait.

Its just a pain in the ass. I already have the 360 and Wii hooked up. Do I really need to have the Gamecube and Xbox hooked up as well? I'd be running 6 consoles eventually if there was no BC and no I'm not the one who feels like plugging in a system to my surround sound ect every time I want to revisit the classics or finish some I haven't gotten to. Its a matter of convience and bottom line is its a feature thats been standard and now they are trying to take it away from us. Same thing they did with Rumble. Good thing we are getting rumble back.

okay, I see. Is there a feature you guys would have liked to see Sony cut other than PS2 backwards compatibility to achieve their objective of lowering production cost?

[QUOTE="-RPGamer-"]What feature cuts come associated with this lower price tag?DeathIsARight

smaller HDD, no backward compatibility with PS2 games.

My answer is no then *shakes head*

Oh, I forgot to add: no memory card readers and 2 less USB ports.

Then again, you already said no :P

I'm just wondering, this is a general question for you or other PS2 owners out there: why is losing PS2 backwards compatibility a major deterrent for buying the 40GB when one can still play PS2 games on the PS2?

Just curious.

People want lower prices with the same exact features. These are not price drops these are just gimped SKU's. Your friend is not me. I have different wants then he does. Just because your friend does something doesn't mean that I have to do the same.

He never said the 80 GB didn't have BC, so I don't know why you're attacking him on that point.

The 40 GB however will not be BC with PS2 games--only PS1 games. That's confirmed by Sony itself.

As for plugging things in and out of your TV--you can't deny that it's a hassle. Just because your friend doesn't mind unplugging his GC to play his Wii doesn't mean people with a lot more systems around the living room don't mind.

You can't have it both ways, to get the lower price something needed to go. You missed my point, I want you to show that the Wii plays GC games without having to hook up the GC....Honest question as I don't know, I only follow the Wii games, If I wanted GC games I play my GC.
