they can spray paint an alienware tower white but if i am stuck with playing the umpteenth version of mario, zelda, metroid and all the rest of the franchises i don't care about then what difference doesit make?
The funny thing is, it may not matter. We already are having a lot of people unable to see much improvement in graphics from top of the line PC graphics to console stuff that is now 5 years old. If you now raise that bar to around top of the line, the amount of improvement that is really detectable, or even worse considered significant, is going to be quite low. On top of that, you also have the issue that the developers just aren't pushing that hard anymore. A lot still consider Crysis to be top level graphically, and it is years old now.And then a year later Sony and Microsoft will launch their consoles which will be 5x the power of the new Nintendo one.

I believe "diminishing returns" is a good description. The obvious features of texture and polygonal resolution are still in need of a jump or two. But the real work is in environment behavior. And then a year later Sony and Microsoft will launch their consoles which will be 5x the power of the new Nintendo one.

Nobody will compare the wii 2 with a 6 year old console. I think that the sad thing is that the graphics will be comparable. I don't see it like that at all. There is no way in hell Sony will release the PS4 in 2012 or 2013 and you know this. More likely they'll announce it in 2014 with a release date for sometime in 2015.And then a year later Sony and Microsoft will launch their consoles which will be 5x the power of the new Nintendo one.
Wasdie
Why do you compare next gen to current gen? Its like comparing 360 to GC, which have better graphics? When 720 and ps4 is out then compare it to Wii 2 which will be crushed as always.silversix_
Multiplats will be compared for better or for worse. If they're the same game on all three systems why can't they be compared? Hermits will do this all the time when the BF3 console pics are finally shown and PC tech is years ahead.
Wii 2 gets the best version of a console multiplat - Cows and Lemmings: ''well duh, its a new console''
Wii 2 gets a multiplat that looks no better than the opposition - Cows and Lemmings: ''lol @ Nintendo's next-gen console''
So either Wii 2 gets compared with the other two consoles this gen or it gets compared with the PC. It will be stuck between a rock and a hard place one way or the other as far as the system war goes.

I was exaggerating, of course, but I don't doubt they'll show it up pretty bad. Nintendo does a little hop and the other two will take a giant leap right over them. The interesting thing would be on multi plats if they make the Wii 2 version "better" than PS3/360. Regardless, graphics will still matter and the next MS/Sony console will more powerful than the Nintendo and we'll be right back where we started, Heil68Not if MS and Sony only make a minor jump and Cafe can still handle multiplats. A 2-3 year head start may be enough to make it lead platform unless its consigned to the same fate as the Dreamcast, as the in-between generation system.

Lmao, this is probably what will end up happening.
Somehow, I HIGHLY doubt it.What? You mean--graphics will matter again?
Because that's pretty much what I've been seeing all over the place. Ninty fans with the usual argument that graphics was never really a set back for the Wii and most of them are now drooling at the prospect of seeing their favorite franchises on a more powerful system. I wonder if people would still be satisfied at all with a Wii 2 that was still far below 360 quality, I might have believed that a few weeks ago, but not anymore and that's good, because, yes, quality hardware does matter.
Outside of that, we don't even know anything about the console yet that has been confirmed so I would wait 'til E3.

I wouldn't mind it if this was a new standard for the industry. Having 3 consoles that release so close together is so boring, pointless, and expensive. Even having one in between makes it easier for developers to expand what they can do on current consoles. As most probably know, Crytek recently complained about console limitations, then said 8gb should be standard next generation... Thats way overkill, but they have a point, generations that are this long really limit developers. How much better can we get on our current consoles? Looking at games like Uncharted 2, Killzone 3, etc. I don't think they can be pushed much more.
[QUOTE="gensigns"]Graphics won't matter any more. correct?evilross
So if Nintendo does put out a console that can output in HD and make pretty looking games, for Nintendo fans, graphics suddenly matter?
Just like last gen with the PS2, aka the weakest system graphically, Sony fans were all about "teh sales" and "graphics didn't matter" and now look at them this gen caring about just the opposite. All fans change their priorities to coincide with their favorite system maker. ;)

My personal opinion is that Microsoft and Sony should get together and make a console with Sony building the hardware and Microsoft providing the online service and support. And Nintendo should get out of the home console market and make handhelds and become a developer/publisher for console versions of their first party IP's...
But everyone can dream of a perfect world right?
