So... sony didn't really impress me with their newest system update...

I'm with you that they shouldn't waste time coding for a text chat when coding for a vocie chat should be higher priority. Sony is known to be dumb tho so we might get a party system by PS4 as a "New Feature!". =/

It made the ps3 support more video files all my movies on my external play now.

But you see the difference is, when Sony doesn't impress me with a PSN update, I don't feel bad because I don't pay a thing for it.

it's an update. it's not like its an entirely new console.

Not me. The new update is just one of many to always come. Not every update needs to fufill the large needs or be revolutionary. Cross in-game voice chat will come eventually, as will any other feature that needy people want or their heads will explode with candy. To be completely honest, it's not a waiting game but I'd rather see how they work with some of the features that everyone wants. If they are doing text chats like this, I wonder if the cross in-game chat will have more than two people in one chat. Who knows?

Yet just to defend the recent update, I actually like it. Most of my friends really like it too. Maybe it's because it's somewhat useful for our clan. PSN and or XBL, not everyone has mics but there are still many in our clan that do, including myself. Yet there are still a few key members who don't. So say when we're playing MGO, KZ2, or any other game that we get together in; it's nice to be able to communicate. For instance, we have two chats up during Survival and Tournament Mode. One to communicate with our own team, if communication is unavailable like in RES or TSNE; and the second to communicate with the rest of our clan during those modes to report any crazy mishaps. So yeah, I enjoy the text chat and do want other features to come to the PS3 but I just tire of hearing people complain about any update that DOES better the system.

As for the filter system, good. Is there any reason to go off cursing online unless you're mad? I still do but there really isn't a real reason. I'm fine with cursing but complaining about it seems sort of silly. Sure words like penis or something are also filtered but it's not that bad. Go mess around with the MGO text chat filter and then complain because that filter is actually stupid.

Oh and some of the organization tidbits were nice but just one of those small things you just say "Oh, neat" and move on.

Sony knows that most of PS3 users hate voice chat I liked that update its very good for people who dont like voice chat you should understand that not everyone like hearing the ugly voices of other players while playing everyone got different taste.

ok let me take a step back i know psn is free, so i really have no reason to complain, i say, they charge 1 dollar per month from their users 12 bucks a year, thats nothing, they do that and that will add up to a lot of money and then they can finally catch up to xbox live and to you people who say u dont like the voice chat because of ugly voices how about they add a new voice filter, one that YOU can actually pick the way u want other people to sound instead of other way around. A year ago i called it exactly to reach xbox live functionality which was literally hard coded in any ways sony will have to literally rewrite the entire XMB and OS of the ps3 its not gonna be easy, I said it would take a year or 2 to accomplish this and a few people agreed with me.

Simple fact is do not expect cross game voice chat ingame any time soon it wasn't hard coded into the firmware and OS and a firmware update isn't gonna just add it instantly.

Edit: if it does show up soon then it will have been a year and just goes to show sony had to do alot of shoehorning and complete rewrites of the firmware to get it in there.

On the other hand, I spent 754.12800 US$ on a console that lacks some key online features. Giving feedback on a product I bought that I think is great but has rooms for improvement is considered a duty by me. So yeah Sony, give me my cross-game VOICE chat, cross-game invites and ability to send messages from my computer to my friends and I'll stop using my 360 for any kind of decent online experince. Thanks.

I agree but you missed the point where I payed around 700$ for this machine. I'm not expecting awesome features every month but simply that features which the community desires are worked into the machine if possible. If it's not possible then Sony can say so and I can move on with my life.

Another example, I buy myself 200$ graphics card for my PC. Would it be reasonable for the company that made my card not to support future drivers and add new updates as they become relevant?

Simply my point is, when you buy a piece of hardware in these price ranges you can't claim that it's free, especially since the competition is doing great adding stuff and showing that people are more than willing to pay for these extra features. Sony shouldn't ignore one of the main reasons why they've been outdone by Microsoft this gen.

All I want is for Sony to not waste time making upgrades for photos, music and text chat and instead start working on the stuff that will actually help with the games. I guess that's too much to ask for tho.

these monthly updates are getting annoying especially when the changes if any are so subtle. they should just gather up ideas to make psn better build it up and then have the update at the end of the season instead of these small tweaks every few weeks
