I doubt Sony lost 4 billion dollars if they did their wouldnt be a PS4..PS3 have been profitable this past few years..Microsoft lost 1billion plus on the xbox360 because of the red lights of death.. As of right now MIcrosoft have been fined 732 million dollars too..No wonder they dont bring out no exclusive games to the 360.

I just remember reading that they have lost all the money they made on ps2 and ps1. I mean its crazy to think that Sony would be in a better position if they never developed playstation at all. This is speaking only financially of course.

You'd be in a better position as well, a lot less butthurt.

Man this is just incredibly awesome to think about.  10 years ago.  People were saying the Xbox had no chance against Sony's Playstation. Now it is greater than the Playstation brand in regards to games and home entertainment.  Think about this for a second folks.  Amazing times are ahead of us.

is that why its in last place?

Just curious can you show just one link to official numbers saying that?

But its true what I said. Its telling that you didn't even try to disprove. I can infer from this you already know Sony is dying.

these are all facts.

1. company has also been declared junk bond status,
http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/22/sony-credit-rating-downgraded-to-junk-by-fitch/

2. they lost nearly all their marketshare this gen

3. 360 has gotten the better muliplats all gen

4. their franchises are either shallow cinematic titles and nintendo knockoffs like batal royale, and little big planet karting.

I want to like Sony but i just dont get why everyone around here tries to make them soud like some juggernaut when they have been so unsuccessful in recent years in almost everything they do... it just doent add up.

I could not disagree with you more about points 3 and 4; however, your first two are very valid. It really does annoy me people say PS Allstars is just a rip off. What fighting game doesn't take pointers from past games? What game in any genre doesn't do this in one way or another. Allstars plays very differently from smash bros, has a much more in depth combat system and is uniuque in its environments and characters. I love the game and it is a blast with friends locally and I have never lagged online with it. As a gamer without a Wii I was very thankful Sony gave me this type of game since the PS library did not have one like it. Also, every one of my friends who I have had play it with me, who came in expecting it to suck and be a rip off, loves it and we play it all the time. Granted this is my experience with the game, but it is in no way shallow to me or my friends.

I also do not believe Ni No Kuni, GT, inFAMOUS, Resistance 3, GOW, and many other titles to be shallow cinematic experiences at all. I love the variety Sony offers in its titles and that it is willing to take risks with new IP's. Not all of them are perfect, but they are fun and that is all that matters to me. I know I sound like a huge fanboy right now, but I am simply saying that I appreciate variety in my games. Alan Wake on the 360 is an example of what I wish MS would have done more of. I love that game! Anyways, everyone has their own opinion, but TC just because you have an OPINION does not make it a FACT no matter how much you want it to be. In the same way, everything I just typed is my opinion, but I don't state it is a fact nor expect everyone to agree with it.

1 or 2 of TC's points are idiotic, but the others are accurate. However, who said they were a "raging success"? A quote would be nice.

Jack Tretton said PS3 was at 77 million sold just last week, is that proof enough?

You can just imagine how butthurt the OP is for going out of his way to write a thread like this LOL, ever since the PS4 reveal lems have been going wild all over the internet.

"Im not gonna support this company because they lost a lot of money, but im gonna give as much money as possible to another company even though they give nothing of worth in return (XBL)" - Lem logic.

1. Not true, they started breaking even on hardware in 2011. 2. Stock has gone up as they sold their US HQ and the Sony Music HQ to raise money. 3. Most have been on par or worse( digital foundry, lens of truth) however a hand full of ps3 titles have looked better. 4. Completely subjective, going by MC the Xbox has consistently had more higher scoring games. 5. I thought MS were a million or so in front? Source ? 6. I already am home, all your points are bad.

[QUOTE="Mugzippit"]Can't everyone just ignore the 2 facts that are actually biased opinions and consider the two actual facts here? These two are NOT facts, they are simply the opinion of the Robotapple and can be ignored since telling someone their opinion is wrong is just a waste of time. "360 has gotten the better muliplats all gen" "their franchises are either shallow cinematic titles and Nintendo knockoffs like battle royale, and little big planet karting." However: The Company has also been declared junk bond status (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/22/sony-credit-rating-downgraded-to-junk-by-fitch/) They lost nearly all their marketshare this gen (side note: "nearly all of" isn't really accurate but lets look at some facts/official figures) I'm going to start by saying that based on the information i put forward, both these facts are true. Sony has recently been given junk bond status (although this is Sony overall and can't be attributed to the just the gaming area or the performance of the PS3) this might change in the future but as far as anyone could be concerned, at the time that I post this, this is true. As for market share I'm going to simply compare Sony's performance in prior generations to the current generation. When comparing the PS2 to the PS3, the number of consoles sold has dropped dramatically. Sony recently hit 77 million consoles sold on the PS3, according to that article on GameSpot mentioned earlier, but comparing that figure to 155 million PS2 consoles sold? (PS2 sales figure is at the bottom of this: http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/1735312/Sony-to-announce-launch-of-new-PlayStation). Granted no console has ever reached the same number of sales as the PS2 but with just these figures it could be said that Sony has lost half its market share, although I can't back up this estimate. With the PS4 coming out that people will jump on the PS3 (which probably won't be at the end of its lifespan even with the PS4 coming out) so there is a chance that the gap between the PS2 and 3 shrinks a bit but at the moment, Sony will need to sell around 25 million more consoles just to match the original PlayStation, standing at 103 million sales, let alone the PS2. While the PlayStation 3 must have performed at an acceptable level since Sony is still supporting it and releasing a successor, It's future in the gaming industry could be seen as questionable due to its junk bond status (which can scare away potential investment) and the amount of negativity from gaming journalists following the PS4 unveiling. Granted gaming journalists are a difficult bunch which will prefer to highlight the negative (or positive if they feel they can get away with the bias) side of any news unless there is a bribe in the works somewhere but that's just my opinion on the reliability of gaming journalists in general. I'm sure Sony could perfect their marketing at E3 and some journalist somewhere will call it a failure! Anyway answering the title of the topic, Did Sony loose $4 billion throughout the lifespan of the PS3? I honestly can't find anything that supports this (if you can please bring it up!) and while the Vita might not be performing well at the moment, Sony has done some big things to help it, like the price cut in Japan leading to its sales quadrupling (according to the article GameSpot posted on the subject) and its incorporation into the PS4 shown at the unveiling. So will Sony rise, fall or stay as it is over the next few years? Who knows? I expect E3 to be the next big step for Sony so lets wait and see how things unfold and as always, Time will tell. For the benefit of flamers I've taken care to ensure all the arguments above are solely focused on Sony and I haven't mentioned any of its competitors. I apologize in advance for any bias that anyone perceives.DJS28
Good post, people should follow this example. Information backed with sources.

Thank you, its nice to know some people appreciate the effort! So many people on these forum's just shout out answers based on what they believe in without actually backing it up with something.
