Break it down in to the generational eras, PC is still far larger than any console
From January 2014 to February 2015 Steam alone increased active users from 75 Million to 125 Million almost as many PS4 that have sold in 3.5 years. That's just one year for one company serving the PC community. Unfortunately Steam haven't declared active account numbers since Feb 2015
Annual revenues for global software and hardware sales are larger than all consoles combined.
More good to great games (75+ on MC) have come out on PC than any single current gen console over the same time period (may even be more than the combined total but I can't be bothered counting it up)
More than anything else though, PC being a part of this board makes it valid. It's system wars not console wars.
1- Generation only apply to consoles. Not PC. Sales of individual consoles can be broken down along with revenues, time frame etc. Same cannot be applied for PC which for all intents and purpose should include Mac and even tablet sales when it comes to hardware. Nobody does that because you cannot just pigeon-hole the PC into a single niche like consoles.
2. You can't compare a bunch of free Steam accounts that may or may not be active with 300-400$ PS4 sold.
3. Of course they are because unlike consoles PC's don't have generations. Crappy desktops from 2004 are still widely used to play F2P games that account for the bulk of the revenues of PC gaming. That's why trying to directly compare consoles to PC across generations is a fool's errand. PC has no generation to speak of.
4. I know this isn't Console Wars but Console Wars is a sub-war of System Wars. That's why I said "8th gen". There is no 8th gen PC. Crysis 3 on consoles is a 7th gen title. Crysis 3 on PC still looks better than 99% of 8th gen console games and by console standards is an 8th gen game. That's why it's pointless to include PC in anything about generations. PC doesn't have generations.
PS4 is the most successful 8th gen system. PC is the most successful system period.
