@Juub1990: Why declare second place as the victor then?

Because a gen is what separates consoles. PC has no gen and is therefore not participating in any generation wars. That and nobody owns PC except for the gamers.

Break it down in to the generational eras, PC is still far larger than any console

From January 2014 to February 2015 Steam alone increased active users from 75 Million to 125 Million almost as many PS4 that have sold in 3.5 years. That's just one year for one company serving the PC community. Unfortunately Steam haven't declared active account numbers since Feb 2015

Annual revenues for global software and hardware sales are larger than all consoles combined.

More good to great games (75+ on MC) have come out on PC than any single current gen console over the same time period (may even be more than the combined total but I can't be bothered counting it up)

More than anything else though, PC being a part of this board makes it valid. It's system wars not console wars.

When Valve declared 125 million active accounts, there were 280 million accounts in circulation, Steam is now over 400 million accounts in circulation.

yeah sure to play stardew valley and counterstrike go. It's obvious when you look at the sales of big productions that most of the core market is on the playstation and xbox.

Taken from my thread that has been locked.

This is my list of a few reasons why the Switch can't possibly sell as well as the 3DS.

- Hardware itself is more expensive than any previous Nintendo handheld at launch by $50. Nintendo was forced to drop the price of the 3DS from $250 to $170 within 4 months on the market.

- Games are now $50 - $60 vs $30 - $40

- Online Paid Subscription

- Battery life leaves a lot to be desired. Will last 3 hrs playing a game like Zelda: BOTW.

Looking at the above is this really something Soccer Moms will want to buy for their children?

Here's what Mom's are buying for their kids these days.

It's been three years, four if you count the Wii U, and Microsoft still hasn't played their Ace yet.

Scorpio is not going to make Microsoft the generation winner, but it could flip the situation on the second half if they go about it right and start delivering on games, that could put them in contention with Sony.

How exactly a console that will probably be $500 and have no exclusive games flip anything?

Yeah and 2005 PC still running steam which is why the its most played games can be play on a toaster.

Yet from 2015 to 2017 they haven't reach 150 million what happen?

What you don't say is that many of those 125 million run steam on hardware as old as the xbox 360 or even older, then you have shitty laptops as well with low end GPU which also can run steam,so you have hardware older than 10 years still counting toward those numbers when the PS4 has 3 years only.

I find those steam numbers to be rather suspicious from 2014 to 2015 they claim 50 million new users, yet from 2015 to 2017 they haven't reach 150 million which is just 25 million more half of what supposedly they did on 2014 to 2015.?

Yet its sales are not accounted on NPD with consoles, pretty strong indication that they are not in the same market.

Do you think they can come back? Apparently they are 25M behind which is huge. They would have to go on a tear and have a stranglehold in NA and beat them in Europe too. Japan is pretty much a lost cause.

That's a big ass gap, but if they come in at the right price and start delivering on games, market it right, and everyone becomes aware this is the definitive system on the block, they could become the progressive market leader going forward, the potential exists.

It'd be one of the great comebacks if it happened... but I doubt it will. But like you said, they could quite easily win the second phase of this gen if they do it right.

If they market the hell out of Scorpio and promote that it's the most powerful console by quite a margin, a lot of people might pick one up even just for multiplats. But yes, exclusives will need to play a part too (which I'm sure MS has some stuff planned for it).

Because it's a substantially better system than anything available by an extremely wide margin, also don't do the whole "no exclusives" thing, that crap peddled around here has no bearing on reality or on the console consumer populous at large.

On top of this it will be the go to machine for multi-platform games which make up 90% of the games released these days, it will run them better not only performance wise but at higher graphics settings and fidelity.

If it's even that much, $500 is a small price to pay to get PC level gaming experiences on a console.

If you're a console gamer and you want the best overall experience, it will be had on Scorpio, there's no if's and's or but's to this.

Nothing more from you than expected the same old crap you've been spewing for years.

Go add up the percentage of GPU's in use that are more powerful than an Xbox One, hell add up the number that are more powerful than a PS4. It shouldn't be hard for you, after all you claim to have fairly extensive knowledge of PC hardware.

Please show us where Valve have stated they have 150 million active user accounts. I'd like to know because as far as I can see the last time they posted this information was February 2015 at which point they had 125 million active accounts. At that time their concurrent user record was around 7 million, on January 7th this year they broke the 14 million mark, that to me suggests they have potentially doubled their total active user accounts.

Steam do not publish their sales figures. They are a privately owned company and do not sell stock on the open market and therefore they have no need to publish anything. The last annual figures they published was also in 2015 and they made $3.5 Billion that financial year. source

Current situations:

Cancelsoft:

Have been blunted to all **** since "We are proud to present: Xbone!", now main markets are NA and UK with some minor ones bringing up 3rd place and beyond, being outsold considerably in top two markets regardless. No real expansion or market share gain from the start of the gen in European markets other than the UK, straight up blue faced death in Japan. No-one gives a ****. New IPs have floundered, top pillar franchises under performing due to stagnation and fatigue, first party studios are IP factories with their collars tightening. Forza. Studio closures, games cancelled, conveniently ones that aren't HaloGearsForza, 3rd party exclusive nothing to fill the gaps, no new studios being bought, can barely keep an exclusive with one year timed deals. Rumours have it, Cancelsoft to focus more on multiplayer software and 'games as service' instead of diversifying library, moving on from single player. Cancelbox division now on an actual budget. Dilution of Xbox brand with concurrent PC initiative. Preparing to launch very powerful console to a climate that doesn't need it(a al Pro) and that hasn't been hardware starved for 6-7 years like 2013 launches were. Scorpio to sell fair or niche at minimum to NA and UK only. Power will not negate software deficit even if third party games run better and won't bring about an instant switch up for the HD twins.

Nintendolol:

After ages: "Random Nintendo appears; it used 'Switch!". Wii U users: "Wtf?!", 3DS users: "WTF?!", potential new Nintendo ecosystem customers: "What....the **** Nintendo...". Confusion, disappointment. Lackluster specs and general hardware. Nintendo Japanese game culture boils and overflows to restrict progression and castrate device for anywhere but Japan. Stocks drop and don't recover(like they would normally, so people say). 3DS still a sales beast, top selling market: Japan, top selling market interest... Japan. Wii U dead anywhere but Japan, other regions fucking pissed for ages, WTF you doing Nintendo?! Nintendo fans jaded and reluctant with the new hardware "it is what it is, z-z-z-zelda though q_q". Prepares for what they think is a potential Wii situation. Sales will no doubt prove otherwise. Potential to expand much out of Japanese market to make head way in Europe an NA again: murky. Nintendo fans sacrifice many new borns and baby animals for a true 3DS successor.

Sony's PlayStation Division of Humble Greatness:

Launches a console that actually plays games, and actually plays games people buy, shock fucking horror. Points to Cancelsoft: "Look, we ain't doing that shit". Has console more powerful and easier to work with after 360 shat on them for a long gen, results show. Crowd goes nuts. New IPs, first party software slow but sure, developer relationships flourishing, 3rd party exclusives still capable in current industry climate. Global software support, global, g l o b a l. Even gets putting on shows and conferences right in a way to solidfy hype and general interet within game culture, treats it with respect. PSX, Cancelsoft and Nintendolol have no equivalent. Result: One of the world's best selling consoles of all time, currently tracking above PS2 World Wide, with a large diverse library for many demographics of gamer not just NA dude bros, manages to continue satisfying Japanese roots. I mean, c'mon Knack 2 baby! Despite success, some dumb shit: PS+ now charges, PSNOW as back compat, please **** off, WW studios restructuring, the odd studio closure due to failed launch dates, milestones and maybe some lesser selling IPs, AAA Development getting cut throat, bad news for the industry in general. The big 'IF': PSVR. Despite studio closures, automatically resulting in less studios making games or trying new IP, doesn't phase sales growth and market share. Out selling Wii U home console in Japan, beating Cancelbox in NA, swallows Europe whole in the middle. Vita dead though pervert exec keeps sticking needles in it each PSX to make it spasm lol

tl;dr: Nintendo got Japan, Cancelsoft got NA, Sony got the world = 8th Gen Sony Slaughter

gens are not really defined for all companies to be counted as one anymore.

thw wii, wiiu and now switch has seen nintendo follow its own path.

and now with the pro and scorpio sony and MS have blurred the gen lines as well.

-----------------

anyway 3DS is still the top hardware seller of the gen. so i disagree it mopped anything but the floor at burger king.

It seems that way.

Who is challenging Sony? Ninty kind of will be. There are similar games on both platforms with some choices that won't exist on Switch/PS4 reciprocally.

MS is slated to release a powerhouse console this year, but how will they convince consumers to adopt that over what exists on the market today? Sony's in a position to really dominate the entire console market if they do things right.

In terms of sales, this gen was won by Sony a long time ago. Nintendo doesn't have interest in beating Sony or Microsoft. They just do their own thing and want to make a good profit. They like being that innovative company on the side. I'm sure they want to hit Wii numbers again, but that's probably not going to happen again.

So it's between Sony and Microsoft. Sony just has more worldwide appeal than Microsoft, which provides them with more developers, games, and exclusives. Sony learned their lessons from the 2006 E3 and Microsoft messed up big time at the 2013 E3, so Sony took advantage of that quickly and reclaimed its throne. Plus the PS3 gained a lot of momentum at the end of its life cycle so all the stars aligned for Sony to win this gen.

There's nothing really anyone can do to catch up to Sony this gen.

Don't let the fans deter you. You have to put aside the fans and focus on the actual games. When you do that, you'll find that every major platform has something wonderful to offer. :-)

8th gen isn't over until we get actual 9th gen systems, but yeah, Sony won back in 2013.

The Scorpio is still to be released but yes, as of now, PS4 has won/is winning about as easy as they can.

Give Sony credit where it's due They have been announcing a tone of games, since 2014. The also released PSVR recently. What has Microsoft done so special that they deserve #1? If they didn't announce Scorpio nobody would give a fk about Xbox brand. The future line up is trash.

@FLOPPAGE_50: lol you know not all 'western' or non-japanese games are made in America. Nationalism is not only backwards and reactionary, but it is also detrimental to your experience as a gamer. Why limit the games you can enjoy to games made within arbitrary borders?

The last annual figures they published was also in 2015 and they made $3.5 Billion that financial year. source

Bullshit steam stats say fu**Ing high..

Still most played games Dota 2 and Counter strike 2 games that run on a toaster.

Counter Strike.

core 2 duo E6600

256MB DX9 video card....hahahahah

Dota 2

Dual core from any of the intel or amd.

8600 or HD 2600

Why the fu** i want a titan pascal to run a game that i can max out with any cheap GPU out there.?

45% of steam still carry a dual core CPU the most popular speed between 2.3 and 2.69 hahahaa this are not current time i3 not with that speed, intel is long pass 3.0 ghz with its i3,in fact kaby lake i3 is 4.2ghz,skylake between 3.7 ghz and more, haswell easy 3.4 ghz, hell even ivy bridge was 3.3ghz...

So those 2.3 to 2.6 dual core are old ass CPU and is the most popular speed on steam..lol

Only 35% of steam has a CPU faster than 3.0ghz...

And 95% of steam is on 1080p or lower display,in fact the most used resolution after 1080p on steam is 1366x768 24.76% almost 25% of steam play almost in 720p dude that fu**ing is a hair from 720p.

Some 30 million or more steam users are on 1366x768 that is mostly a laptop resolution,so again steam own numbers come back to byte you in the ass.

Steam is full of old ass PC from 2005 and up hell even older,so be fair now add what the PS3 had since 2006 + what the PS4 has now..

So 86 millions + 53 millions = 149 million units sold not bad compare to steam right.? After all if you are counting PC from as old as 2004 why the fu** we can't count consoles from that era as well and add then to the PS4.?

This is why you were told that PC has no generations.

Exactly isn't it odd that from 2014 to 2015 steam added 50 million so call users, but from 2015 to 2016 nothing and we are on 2017 now and still have nothing.

Steam accounts are free you can run them on a freaking walmart PC without problems and play games like dota on them to,which is strangely odd since that is the most played game by a land slide, the closes thing is GTA5 and Dota 2 has 9 times the numbers of players at peak hours.

Oh we are not talking about money made,we are talking about accounts numbers, you are a hypocrite using steam is a joke, since steam has users that run hardware older than the xbox 360 it self, but you account them as if they could run anything outside dota 2 or counter strike or team fortress 2..

Team Fortress 2 Requirements..

Pentium 4 or Athlon XP

1.7ghz of better

Gforce 4 or ati 8500...

Hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Steam 4th most popular game with 73,981 gamers at peak hours or more.

If you count those old ass steam account i can add PS2,PS3 and PS4 together and own your ass over as well, hell we can join xbox, xbox 360 and xbox one and would be over 125 million accounts..

Nothing more from you than expected the same old crap you've been spewing for years.

When Valve released their 125 million active accounts figure there were 240 million Steam accounts in circulation. 125 million is roughly 52% of 240 million, and as of now there are 400 million Steam accounts in circulation, if we apply the same percentage to that increase in accounts then roughly 208 million accounts should be active as of now.

Tormentos is a crackpot.

And you are an idiot active accounts is what steam brag about for a reason, there is no point in counting accounts that are not in function since steam started.

Maybe we should start counting PS1 and well on the PS4 favor.

Fact is steam stats paint the whole picture, and if you or the other fool want to count every account ever created on steam then we should count every console ever sold for the PS.

Is not about 20 is like 25 millions,oh and i am using sony sold to consumer numbers vs what we may speculate MS has shipped because we know their numbers are for shipped units not sold to consumer.

And considering that both units started the same month same year 25 millions is a big gap and growing.

I'm saying the Switch as it exists doesn't deserve to be called a ninth gen console, and the Scorpio and Pro blur the generations line. How that can be twisted into 'damage control' is beyond me, but hey, go nuts.

Yeah, because it's a repackaged Wii U more or less.

You're ignoring me in the other thread. I presume you had nothing meaningful to say, and a hateful diatribe is really all you have to incessantly and relentlessly spew in every single thread on this topic.

No I replied to you and made it pretty simple.

the gen isn't over by any means. Nintendo is launching a new gen but Sony and MS aren't yet. With that said I do expect Sony to finish the winner. I think they will get around 100 million and the XB1 will get around 60-70 million. The switch and Wii u combined will maybe see 40 million at best. I think the Wii U died at about 15 million so 25 million for the switch seems doable

Wait you mean you only register your laptop, but not your desktop in the survey which could be a lie or not,but hey you just confirm that from those 125 million you have several steam accounts?

Please dude trying to imply that only people with shitty hardware take the survey is a joke, stop been a butthurt liar.

I proved my point 125 millions counting old ass PC from 2004 and beyond is not impressive at all the PS2 alone sold more than that in 12 years, from 2004 to 2017 it is 13 years and steam has less active account than what sony sold PS2 in 12 years.
