What more important is what will the controller be like, I think they had some real missed potential with the wii mote for kids.
Hardware wise it will probably still be behind it's time.
Is this thing really gonna release in 2016?
Isn't the WiiU only like 2 years old?
Two and change. No way is the next console coming out in 2016. There's just no way. That's not even five years.
They would if they are cutting the Wii U loose and running. Of course, I'd hope every gamer (myself included) who purchased that console for the games its -supposed' to have will never ever EVER purchase another Nintendo product for as long as we live. Game companies that do that deserve to die - and as consumers who 'fell for it', we need to HELP them die out.
Nintendo is too big a company to do something like cut the Wii U loose and run. I don't see it happening. No game company has done that in many years. Failures like the Neo Geo, Jaguar, Ouya, or N gage do stuff like that, not Nintendo.
A Holiday 2016 release seems ideal and would fit fine for a new home console launch. Wii U would be 4 years old at that point. I would consider it a Gen9 console.
GPU's stronger than the xbox 360 according to digital foundry(About 1.5X stronger if I recall). The console also has more EDRAM and ram than the 360.
But its CPu is weaker sauce which cause problems for it,and make games like Watch Dogs been superior even on PS3.
8th gen.
This isn't the first time a company released two consoles in the same generation...
In the 2nd gen, Atari released the 2600 and then the 5200.
In the 3rd gen, Sega released the SG-1000 and then the Master System, while Atari released the 7800 and then the XEGS.
In the 4th gen, NEC released the PCE/TG16 and then the SuperGrafx.
...But the NX might be the first time something like this has happened in over 25 years.
Well there is something in common in all of those...
They failed...
I think this NX project could be an updated version of the Wii U gamepad controller. It could be slimmer, lighter, bigger screen, have better resolution and who knows maybe it could play the games they plan to release on mobile devices. So this releasing sooner than later makes more sense than a new console.

Too true.
Nintendo going mobile is only the first step. When the gimmicks fail and Nintendo runs out of options they'll have no other choice but to go 3rd party for other consoles.
I only hope I live long enough to see it.
it would be the ninth generation nintendo console
Technically, the NX would be the 7th-generation Nintendo console... after the NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, and Wii U.

The 2600 "failed"? You do realize that was the best-selling console before the NES, right?
But I get the feeling you meant just the mid-generation consoles... in which case the Sega Master System was a big success in most parts of the world. After the SMS initially flopped in Japan and North America, it eventually rivalled the NES in Europe, where the SMS beat the NES in a lot of EU countries like the UK, and the SMS also beat the NES in other markets like South America, Korea, and Oceania. The SMS was far more successful than its flop SG-1000 predecessor and laid the foundations for the even greater success of the Mega Drive/Genesis.
However, your comment is partly true, as the the 5200, XEGS and SuperGrafx were indeed major flops.
If Nintendo plays its cards right, the NX could be like the Sega Master System, a much bigger success than its predecessor and a precursor of greater things to come... or it could be like the 5200/XEGS/SuperGrafx, a flop that could eventually lead to their exit from the console manufacturing business.
first of all.
if the NX is the new console AND it releases next year then gens over, PS4 is declared the winner and its on to gen 9. i really dont get the struggle here. the NX (if it is the console) is the wiius successor thus it is a next gen machine. power, features: these things are completely irrelevant when talking gens.
the new gen starts and the old gen ends when the first of the big 3 release their new console. its not rocket science. its been the SW way since i have been here.
second: many assumptions are being made about what NX is exactly. as with all things nintendo, its probably not that simple.
chances are NX is the next gen platform nintendo are building for all their next gen devices.
chances are that the first device to use this new platform is the 3DSs successor not the wiius. the 3DS is on its end of life run (the new 3DS just giving it a bit more oomph). nintendo can not ignore that segment of the market just because the wiiu is floundering....a new handheld would be more effective at getting money in which would allow them to deal with the console problem more effectively. next year the 3DS will be 5 years old...time to retire the system.
as far as i can tell (and correct me if im wrong) nitnendo have never referred to NX as their next gen console. they have called it a gamig platform. it could be anything.
It's obviously going to be the 8th gen. If I would at least wonder why the "New 3DS" is still consider the 8th gen. The PS4 and X-box One are growing strong and that they said that they were considering membership options. This might mean that they are expanding the idea of playing Nintendo games on the PC/Tablet/New 3DS/Smart-phone device. The Wii U will be it's thing to continue to sell while it offers free multiplayer. I am sure of it that the NX would be cross playable as well as it being it's own membership service that will have a cost towards playing. I am guessing the upside is that they might make the NX cheap while selling their membership in order to compete. I know that Sony and Microsoft are still selling memberships while offering free games per month.
The term doesn't really apply imo. Software is really what dictates generations. I don't even group wiiu in the same arena as ps4/x1.
I want to see what all these sheep will say about Wii U when it go in life support soon when Iwata himself calling it a secondary console ...
When i told you sheep dont talk craps for PS4 or any other platform with bright future because it will backfire ... you didnt listen.
Now here we are talking already about the new Nintendo console , only 2 years into Wii Us life. You didnt listen and be ready , i know some cows waiting for the right moment to give back to you all the craps you were saying for a year ++ now. OH well !
Did the Virtual Boy belong to any particular gen? I feel like that was just a crappy spin off of the 5th gen, whereas the N64 and GameBoy were Nintendo's main contributions to that gen. The Wii U is to the 8th gen as the Virtual Boy is to the Fifth Gen. The NX and New 3DS will be Nintendo's biggest (hopefully) contribution to the 8th gen
Would you get pissed if they move over to a PS5/XB2 in 2017 because of whatever Nintendo is doing?
We would..... I would imagine if Sony made the New Playstation Vita. We would all be saying that we can't really take it anymore with Vita handhelds. It seems to me that the handheld device is more mobile than a console itself. With a PS5/XB2 that may not be invented, I would imagine those not existing.... unless if they feel about bumping the membership price and introducing the console.
