In comparison to microSDs out there, we see the Vita cards operating at the equivalent of Class 2 to Class 6, depending on what kind of mood you catch it in (the class system is defined by write speeds). Read times are not really covered by the SD Class system, but in our experience they're either the same or quite a bit better - flash memory in general tends to be more challenged when it comes to writing data as opposed to reading it back.

The Vita cards seem to max out at somewhere in-between 6MB/s to 8MB/s, generally speaking - quite a large delta. At the time of writing, a 16GB Vita card costs around £40 while a Class 10 MicroSD with a reputable brand, offering the same storage, can be purchased from Amazon for as little as £10.

People usually buy the cheapest card anyway so even if vita went universal low speeds would still be seen. I would think sony will eventually come out with high speed cards. They have in the past like with pro duo for psp.

Hrm....I thought I actually cared about this...and then I went back to playing Wipeout 2048 and Uncharted. Complaining about memory cards is getting old...maybe I should complain about how Microsoft makes you pay for online play or how the Wii is like playing a PS2 with motion controls or how the DS is a poorly designed outdated handheld compared to the Vita. Will people that own those consoles care about what I mentioned? About as much as I care about the speed of my 16gb stick for my vita.

Well there's allways the piracy protection excuse... too bad they pass that cost onto legit consumers.SaltyMeatballs
The piracy excuse is a worthless one because you can connect the Vita to a computer, which means relatively easy access for hackers to get through.

The Vita memory cards are fast enough. I loaded Gran Turismo PSP onto my 32GB memory card and it actually loads faster than on my PSP Go. I could care less about clock times. Also, you dont need a memory card if you buy the games on a game card. Most if not all can store their saves on the game card. Even so, if you dont plan on downloading a bunch of games off PSN, a $20 4GB card will be plenty for music or pictures or game saves.

I think the big deal is buying cards that are overpriced, when standard cards perform better, and cost way less. Less than the 8 GB sticks Sony sells in fact. There's a big problem here, and Sony is making us buy cards only because it's milking us dry.

I'm not talking about price, but about the speed. I mean, what difference will you see?

Considering tests with games like WipeOut are up to 10 seconds, it seems like a lot... when the speed could be reduced significantly if they were class 10 speeds (up to 10 MB/s)
