So there's no Nintendo Direct this month and the haters were right. Will Switch momentum die?

With it basically now confirmed that there's no Nintendo Direct planned for this month, Switch has begun its first major drought. A lot of the haters predicted this, and feel that this will result in an immediate end to Switch's success, with sales dropping closer to Wii U levels. Do you agree? Can Switch survive the first few months of this year with just Kirby, Yoshi, and ports of Bayonetta? Or has Nintendo dropped the ball and started a path to their inevitable downfall as a console maker?

Basically now confirmed is still the same as not officially confirmed yes?

So, basically, it's a launch year console still...

Sooo... what are the fantastical games releasing across the industry?

I know my boys at Capcom are bringing the ruckus early 2018.... I have not heard of much else.

I think the Switch momentum will slow down a bit. It was smart of Nintendo to realease its big guns (Mario and Zelda) in its launch year so that could bring up some momentum and thus sales, but after those two big guns theres not much in the horizon that could potentialy push sales, unless they release a pokemon game for it. Metroid Prime has its share of fans but its sales were never anything impressive so I dont see MP4 being that much of a system seller. Bayonetta is definitely not a system seller (I may buy one later just for it so its a system seller for me but i'm probably one of the few exceptions). There's literaly nothing in the Switch's horizon that could bring up some amazing sales. The best strategy for Nintendo is to release a pokemon and/or announce a Monster Hunter game exclusive for the Switch

Thats the problem with Nintendo consoles. All three have their drough periods when it comes to exclusives but when it comes to PS and Xbox, at least 3rd party games help filling that hole. Nintendo is straightly dependent on its franchises so their dry periods are more felt than the others

Nope. The Nintendo Switch is the hottest gaming related anything that exists right now. It was just in Time Magazine as 2017's hottest Christmas gift. Sales may be slower by eoy but I'm not underestimating Nintendo at this point. They brought it last year tbh

feb already has bayonetta collection and payday 2. so we already got stuff coming.

this month we got lost sphere same as xbox/ps4. mosnter hunter is the big jan game that switch is lacking. oh and dragonball fighterz Z.

Sorry, but how is the death of a platform that gave us Super Mario Odyssey good for gaming?

The drought started last year.

March: Zelda/Mario Kart ports

April-Sept: Nothing

Oct: Mario

Nov-March: Nothing announced but more ports.

This is what you have to look forward to on switch. 2 decent games per year. Maybe a good game every 6-8 months.

It’s been this way since N64.

I thought a drought would have to be much longer than it's been so far.

@JustPlainLucas: it's not but I'd be happy if we didn't get Odyssey or at the very least I didn't buy it. It was a very standard push no boundaries experience and repetition was it's main theme. Sunshine is still number one

Can't say I agree. I will say that Odyssey's post game was pretty repetitive, but the initial journey was fantastic to me. A lot of new concepts for Mario were introduced in that game as well, such as taking over creatures to use their powers to solve puzzles, old-school 2D segments being overlain on 3D environments and of course, New Donk City. It was the biggest reinvention of the franchise since Galaxy.

And sorry, but Sunshine to me has always been the black sheep of the franchise. Only Mario game I collected the bare minimum of to get to Bowser and just get the game over with.

Its pretty sad that so many fanboys want switch to fail. Nintendo is the only company that pushes hardware innovations. less competition means higher prices and less features.

Jokes on you, even if Switch doesn't get any exclusive games for months, I can still play my PS4 or PC feel with games :)

Super Mario Odyssey is software that can exist on other platforms. Don't confuse hardware with software.

Less useless hardware is good for gaming. Games compete with games. Its not that hard to grasp.

@JustPlainLucas: I just really didn't like the power moons. If they were just gonna be lying around to be gotten or bought in the store I'd rather they not be in the game at all or far less of em. I guess I just wanted to feel like I earned some of those moons because I didn't they were just sitting there like coins. By far the worst part we're the slow Broodals it took zero effort. I had heard the dark side would be great but it was just a chance to fight the Broodals again.Nothing changed significantly they just throw even more hats. That never made sense to me if it didn't work the first time why would the same battle tactics work the second. The zero g adds nothing to the battle when you can just groundpound. I think I would have liked it more if Mario was the only one with hat power so the bosses could have uniquer fights. When I think of it Odyssey is just Nsmb in proper 3d. Each kingdom was just a world map with the Broodals lingering at a high point(think like the mini castles you see on world maps). Literally the only parts of the game that we're worthwhile was new donk city, the 2d sections and the dragons. I can’t the Bowser fights since they didn't change even at the end. It was nice effort just not a fun and rewarding one. Bottom line too many hats xD
