who knows.
a couple figureheads at Crytek were really talking the game up for those 2-3 weeks months back.
If the delay was because of the competition. (namely Blacks OPs, follow by Halo Reach) then that's all EA and their money-grubbing habits, not Crytek.
in reality, it's probably playing it smart. I'd bet EA put a lot of money down to publish it on 3 platforms with a lot of optimization for all versions.
that's my theory/two cents, whatever.
Well they're trying to put an unproven franchise on consoles versus a game that will sell millions based on the name alone. Crysis 2 could be the best thing since sliced bread but Crytek isn't stupid enough to think that they'll be able to generate as much hype as the MS marketing machine.General_X$200,000,000 was spent on Halo 3's advertizing alone.

/thread.
I thought they delayed Crysis 2 because they needed more time with the console versions.I heard they were having a hard time making sure the CE3 engine ran great on both PS3 and 360.

I know just having some fun:P
did you really thought i was serious?
I suppose it is a bit funny, and I am looking forward to Crysis 2, but its true this holiday season is so chock full of games. In the FPS genre and outside it there is tons of competition...quite frankly I think more than last year. This year you've got Halo: Reach, Fallout:New Vegas, MoH, Black Ops...and then in other genres, GT5, LBP2, Fable III, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood...list goes on and on.
Its a good business move. Sure it makes the crysis folks look a bit silly with all the smack talk, but they want to make $$ and going up against HReach would be folly.FastEddie2121
Can you link me to this smack talk? I only thought it was the writer expressing his opinions on certain games storys, and he was pretty accurate.

I've seen much more ignorant things being said in 100% seriousness, so its incredibly hard to tell in SW :PI'd say it's a smart move. Why release the game when there's going to be a load of competition? It would likely under-perform in sales since it's a new IP for consoles.
And that's considering that they delayed it for that reason. They likely delayed it to make improvements.

Halo was a great game. It had (and arguably continues) raised the bar for FPS games. I am probably exaggerating when I say this, but the original Halo game is the major reason as why the console was so popular when it was first released. Crysis is different. People who have played Crysis will say Crysis is worth playing. I haven't played Crysis, and most people haven't. Why? Because it took the best available computers to run it. Normal computers couldn't. (It took higher system specs than Oblivion does, if I am not mistaken) Yes. It is certainly possible that Crytek delayed Crysis because it couldn't compete with Halo Reach. Its good marketing, because Microsoft has stated that Halo Reach is supposed to be the DEFINITIVE Halo experience, and may not pursue further titles, allowing Crysis 2 to fill up some of that space. It's also definitely possible that the game won't run perfect on both systems, so they delayed it to make the game the best it can be. The last thing you want while competing with a bigger name is a bugged/faulty game
I think they delayed because they need time to deliver on what so far are false promises.
Like amazing AI - Not from watching the E3 vids.
Best Graphics on all consoles - They probably need more time to polish.
I was looking forward to Crysis 2 but they were being stupid + the fact that they wanted to craft a "Halo Killer" but won't release it at the same time.
Still Gonna buy it. I think they would have done well, since most people i know buying reach are also buying Crysis 2.
...or even GT5. How interesting. It's so interesting how the company kept talking the big talk and kind of bashing Reach in the process and yet they didn't have the balls to release in the same quarter. Don't get me wrong, I am disappointed that it's been delayed, but I find it hilarious that they chickened out like that. Oh yeah even the new Call of Duty is releasing this year which is even more competition they didn't want to face. IAMSERIALThey cannot compete with Reach on a marketing level if anything. :?

Exactly. I find it amusing that the TC is trying to bash the quality of Crysis 2 as opposed to Halo Reach when there are clearly other, more plausible factors to consider.
TC is spot on. Anyone who doesn't believe they delayed the game due to games like Reach needs to stop D-Riding crysis 2.
Lol @ they needed more time to finish the game....good excuse.
If I was them I'd delay the game too. People act like they don't care about sales, they're trying to sell AS MANY copies of the game as possible, if that means avoiding competition than that's what they will do.
So instead of competing against Reach and Black ops its competing against Killzone 3 and Gears 3. (maybe Resistance 3)
Honestly though they probable just thought they needed more development time.
I can honestly see crysis 2 outselling KZ3, but gears 3 not a chance. But gears 3 isnt until may at the least.TC is spot on. Anyone who doesn't believe they delayed the game due to games like Reach needs to stop D-Riding crysis 2.Lol @ they needed more time to finish the game....good excuse.

Even then, it is not about Crysis 2 being a lesser game than Halo Reach, it's about one company having far more marketing power than the other. Regarding the actual quality of both games, I am sure that Crysis 2 can easily compete.

You guys get offended so easily, where in my post did I ever say Reach is a better game than Crysis 2? Nobody can make that judgement...I even said I was disappointed that Crysis 2 is delayed. I don't get where you guys automatically assumed that I think Reach is a better game. Has the world gone mad?actually they do need more time on the game. I heard on the Crysis forums that the two levels they've shown on E3 are the only levels they've completed so far.TC is spot on.
