Who the heck is that? That reasoning just doesn't add up. Trophies and achievements don't tell people how to play a game they "reward" players for doing something in a game.ycole11They certainly can affect the way people play a game, depending on the achievements/trophies that are given. For instance, the 100 feathers one in Assassin's Creed 2. To get that one you have to spend hours upon hours searching for them, or use a game guide to find 'em. That's really kind of ridiculous, yet thousands of people will now be doing that in the game JUST for the trophy/achievement. Nobody would normally collect all that just for a cape that keeps guards away.
Why not include them. It's simple and adds fun. There's literally no negative. To people saying they are useless and Nintendo games don't need them: Why is there Star Coins in NSMBW? Why is there "stamps" in Wii Sports? Why are there special challenge objectives in Punchout Wii? Why are these goals here? Because they are fun of course. Should be standard.locopathoCollecting them opens up a uber-hardcore world in that game.
If there is a substantial in-game reward for collecting say all of the coins in the game then you don't really need achievements, but if there isn't anything fantastic than an achievement makes your effort feel a little more worthwhile.
So they won't put achievements for finding every star because they are virtual points worth nothing but they will "hide" stars in unexpected places in order to have a virtual good personal feeling after getting them because I explore the small world they throw at me?
That doesn't make any sense.
[QUOTE="Blabadon"]Honestl, that satisfaction of a new star in SMG > Trophies. locopathoAnd that new star is exactly as fun or worthless (depending on your view) as an achievement. Those stars have use. They unlock more worlds (and if I read right, you can play as Luigi if you get all of Mario's stars. I don't know that part because I haven't done that yet, but I'm working on that right now). I should know, I own Galaxy and I'm currently playing it.
I just thought of something, usually when they say they arent doing something or they believe people dont want it, they are actually working on it. Dumb thought I know, but for all we know, the 3DS doesnt have achievements because the system that nintendo is working on just isnt ready and will become aviable in a firmware update. Also, with it likely that they are going to hint or actually announce the Wii2 at E3 for all we know, it might be the system that launches nintendo's own verson of achivements.
But anyway, like I said, I dont care about achievements, I dont see much use in them, especially if you dont have internet or if you cant afford to pay extra fees (live).

The POINT is, game design is 100% about so called "worthless goals", Nintendo does them as well as everyone else. Only difference is lack of unified system.[QUOTE="locopatho"][QUOTE="Blabadon"]Honestl, that satisfaction of a new star in SMG > Trophies. nintendoboy16

I completely agree with Nintendo. Achievements and Trophies are pointless.

What are Nintendo Coins & Nintendo Rewards?
Nothing at all- what makes you think they are in the games at all? Seriously, have you ever even played a Nintendo game? Nintendo Rewards are just bonuses you get for completing surveys online  Coins are rewards you get from walking about with your 3DS.Seriously dude, you criticize Nintendo so hard, but you don't even have an idea of what you're talking about, do you?

Thought he meant coins and high scores in Mario World :PHonestly thats a bad excuse... Achievements were probably the best thing to come this gen.
They add tons to a game... nobody is forced to get all the achievements as well but it adds replay value to it
Also not to mention it would help sales for nintendo with those that are obsessed with them

I get that, like those score systems in arcade games. You felt satisfying wen you achived a higher score than another person.
But i think they should swap that with unlockable bonuses than useless achivements, bonuses that adds to the game a ton more replay value and well worth spending your money. Kill the damn bull DLC (God only knows why people buy them), and add unlockable bonuses that can be achived by completing a various tasks from the game. A lot of games did that, but not a significant mainstream amount.
That would be so damn cool..
[QUOTE="wooooode"] Really if you look and see how many people jump into the first pit in a game 5 times in a row to get an award that is retarded.Lucianu
How can there be awards for failing 5 times?
That makes no damn sense...
There are alot of them that you have to fail to get.wooooode
That's messed up. Achivements are for a succes, not for a fail. It's like getting a high score in games and you've ben doing nothing except dying. What king of logic is that, what were they thinking, damn.

Ever play GHIII? It has a couple achievements like that.
Blowin' It:Fail any song 10 times
Almost Got It:Fail a song passed 90% completion
Oh and those get 0 achievement points (360 version obviously)
You missed the point. The impact is purely psychological. If you know from achievements that there is something to collect, then if you have obsession about collecting, you will be confiined to finding them, instead of exploring the game at your own pace. And besides, most of collectables are in the first place solely because they are tied to specific achievement, and NOTHING more. There is nothing stopping them from adding achievements after the game has been made.
Nintendo_Man
Yeah at first I was all for them but now I don't even try to get them, he's right, if you can't make a player want to explore on their own without going "Hey in this level there's a secret area and you'll get a trophy if you go there" then you've not made a very good game.I completely agree with Nintendo. Achievements and Trophies are pointless.
