Specs-wise, it was. I can't be bothered to look it up, but there were a lot of websites and magazines who compared the specs and they all came to the conclusion that the Xbox was the most powerful, followed by the Gamecube and the PS2 respectively. That's theory, though. When you look at the games, there is a clear advantage of Xbox and Gamecube games over PS2,while the technical superiority of the Xbox over the Gamecube was hardly capitalised upon.
But the major advantage of the Gamecube and Xbox were not so much the graphics, but the load times. I remember some earlier multiplats especially having load times up to 30 seconds(!) longer on the PS2. Sometimes the Gamecube versions of gameseven had way shorter load times than their Xbox counterparts, but that seemed to differ with each game.
That all being said, I cannot think of a single multiplat game that was better on the PS2, except maybe some fighting games, for the simple fact that the DualShock had a superior D-Pad.
