I've been hearing a lot of mixed things about Battlefied 3. I haven't played it yet and I can't decide if I want to. I loved Bad Company 2 because I felt like my squad was a part of the battle. It felt strategic, but at the same time you could play it mindlessly if you wanted too. When the BF3 beta came out I gave it a try and I was incredibly disappointed. Operation metro didn't have destruction, vehicles, smooth gameplay, or strategy. Half the map was in closed environments.

So having played the full game, what do you guys think? I really enjoyed Rush in BC2 but I understand that Conquest is now the default mode. Is it just as good? What do you guys think.

And this belongs in system wars because so did the hundreds of BF3 vs. MW3 threads.

it's the best competitive FPS to be released this gen, that much is certain.

when it works, it works masterfully; but when it doesn't, it can be far more frustrating for some players than fun.

I could say the same thing about Bad Company 2, good to hear. Its those rare moments in a match that make the game great. I can deal with some frustration here and there if I'm also guarenteed a match where I'm standing up out of my seat making snap decisions with my squad online.

lol no, as far as quality/gameplay, and the enormous potential for teamwork, BF 3 rises far above those two games.

with a full squad, there is no better feeling in an FPS than winning a conquest match that was as close as a couple points and knowing your squad made the difference. BF 3 is truly a powerful experience when you can have a full squad and you aren't bad, (like some of the haters undoubtedly are).

Sounds about right. I stopped playing BC2 when one of our squadmates started annoying us, then there were 3. Then the other two bought massive PCs. Gotta get some scatch together or make them buy it on PS3 (yeah right).

It's a good game, but it was way over hyped and many of it's fans came off as obnoxious tools because of this whole bull crap CoD vs Battlefield debate.

Heavy aim assist, lack of important location damage, relies on using melee attacks, and hoarding the stronger weapons on the map.

Halo's aim assist really is no more heavy than any other console shooter, location damage is there when shields are down, it only relies on melee when you play in close quarter and using power weapons doesn't mean you'll win. It requires knowledge of the maps, respawn rates of the weapons and team work for map control.

Meh.. I guess I'll give you a srs answer about what I think of BF3.

Multi-player is decent. Not awesome or great, just somewhat good. I think BC2 is better overall though. I've only played the console versions of both games though. Can't speak for the PC versions.

I think Battlefield 3 has finally made it almost 100% verifiable as to who games on consoles and who games on PC. The PC version of BF3 is head and shoulders above anything else out there right now in terms of MP FPS. However, the console version is probably just different enough to CoD to keep people who are sick of CoD entertained.

It is every bit as good as I imagined it, although there are a few issues I would like to see addressed. If I were a console gamer though, it is possible I might be scratching my head at the level of hype for this game. That may put a few people off, and, they seem pretty vocal in forums.

Very nice. I feel kinda stuck. I don't have a PC that runs it and I know the PS3 version is not comparable to the PC version. But PC gamers have strategy and are good with keyboard and mouse, I feel like I'd get torn to shreds. I don't know.

The multiplayer is pretty good, but overall I think the game is so so when you factor in the whole package. The Single Player is pretty lackluster and boring and I wish the multiplayer had more features and modes. But the gameplay is still pretty good, I think COD and Killzoneare better though.

On PC its very good imo. The sound, the graphics, the level design (for the most part) and the atmosphere are all very good.

Tied with TF2 as the best online game this gen imo.

Operation Metro is the worst map in BF3, by far. DICE chose the worst map for the beta.

Rest assured, you have huge open maps. Actually, there's lots of variety. You have Operation Firestorm, Kharg Island and Caspian Border, big open maps, lots of vehicles, then Nosharh Canals, very fun map, quite big although less vehicles, then you have Grand Bazar, Seine Crossing, more infantry-based maps, Theran Highway, don't play it much myself, Damavand Peak which is absolutely amazing for Rush, awful in Conquest though, and finally Operation Metro which is a mess.

I played BF2142 (300 hours), BC2 (200 hours) and BF3. BF3 is the best IMO.

The most popular 2142 maps were probably Suez Canal and Port Bavaria. None of them were huge. The biggest maps were Shuhia Taiba and Highway Tampa, none of them were very good. Too big IMO and the flags were too far apart. Why do you say the maps in BF3 are garbage? I personally love Operation Firestorm, Kharg Island and Nosharh Canals, with Caspian Border a close second.

Edit: with 48-64 players that is. those 4 maps are too big for anything less. 64 players on Operation Firestorm and Kharg Island feels just about right, although it's a bit too much for Noshahr Canals and Caspian Border. Can't imagine playing them with only 24 players. Even Grand Bazar and Seine Crossing I would say 32 players is just about right.

Well that's good because operation metro was not fun at all. Is rush as fun as it was in BC2? I'll make the switch to conquest if I have to but I loved rush. And is the destruction still important because, once again, not in Operation Metro, the crappiest map of all.

I don't play Rush :) Only ocasionally on Damavand Peak. Rush does not work very well with high player counts, so I tend to prefer Conquest.

Ignore what some people say, the destruction is very very good. Far better than BC2. On BC2 the destruction was too predictable. All the houses where copy-pasted and the destruction was fully scripted you always knew what walls were about to collapse and where. Also, pretty much only houses were destructable. You could hide behind a wall and it wouldn't be destroyed. Not so in BF3. The destruction is much more dynamic, you can open holes in walls and you generally can't predict how things will break. Trees fall down as well. I admit that I haven't played for that long yet so maybe there are some patterns but I didn't notice them yet.

I know what you mean. I kinda liked the scripting, it became part of the strategy because corners are indestructable :P

I can see why Rush would be weaker with so many players. Does it still feel like you have an impact in conquest when there are 63 other people playing?

I hated Battlefield 3. I don't know how it looks on PC, but on Playstation 3 the visuals are awful. The entire campaign is extremely boring. Killzone 3 & Modern Warfare 3 are both much, much better first person shooters.

I'm glad it's your opinion. Suez Canal and Port Bravia are bigger and better balanced then any of the maps in BF3. What have you been smoking?... The maps in BF3 are so badly designed and very linear. The flags are so close together there's point for all that empty space on them other then to camp on the hills in Firestorm with the recon kit. The maps are so cheaply made. The flag placement is so simple as well. B2K will be such a relief from the trash vanilla. I can only find maps like Grand Bazaar, Seine Crossing, Demavend Peak, and OP metro playable with 24 players or less, and yes on Conquest Large. Anymore it's an unplayable spam fest. 32 players are the maximum Ill go in any other map.

He stated it as if it were a fact, and it isn't.

It would be like a fanboy saying "Demon's Souls has the best story in gaming history!!!" Which can't be true, because the game has no story.

MW3 doesn't "require" teamwork or skill to play online. No FPS does. Anyone can pickup and play, but you won't be a beast from the get-go.

I voted for "It has the best multiplayer in the series (that I've played)"

But to be honest, Battlefield 2 is still better IMO. However, the game has the potential to much better than BF2. I'm comparing Finished BF2 with Expansions Pack with just released BF3.

Not really fair to be honest, I guess. Best Battlefield game at near-launch, yes.

[btw; I've played every single Battlefield game]

Edit: The only difference between BF3 and the rest of the BF games, excluding Bad Company, is that the maps are smaller =(... I don't mind smaller maps, but I want some bigs ones as well.

I think it is just another boring shooter.

If you don't like shooters then why do you even bother posting in this thread? Funny, I like your avatar..

Because topic asked me what i thought and i play shooters. Bioshock and Deus Ex is the best shooters this gen.

MW3 is so much better in every way.BF3 isnt realistic and the Elit3 service is better than anything DICE could come up with. MW3 requires teamwork and skill, BF3 requires hiding in a bush with infrared.Sandy106
you lack intelligence, I suggest not working your brain too hard, you might lose some brain cells.

I loved Battlefield 3 but I received a refund from EA because of how many bugs are present in the game, I got sick of wasting my time trying to get Battlefield 3 to run the way it should. As far as I am concerned this game released in Beta.

false ... statement is false. COD 4, Halo 3 > BF3. Most FPS gamers would agree with me as well.

How is Halo competitive? It's not even about shooting skill but about knowledge of the map.

Are you kidding me? Have you ever played halo?? Man, this is one of the stupidest comments I have ever seen. Halo takes way more skill than Bf3 or Cod, and its definantly not just about map knowledge.

Battlefield 3 > MW3 ... If you have a high end PC. Otherwise MW3 is better ( nothing is taken out or scaled back for consoles)

No it doesn't. You obviously have never played BF3 on PC.
