For me....Uncharted....
Contender will be...
Gears, Bioshock, and Assassin's Creed I've heard mentioned also....those are really the main contenders.

Agreed although I haven't actually played Uncharted yet. I don't think Call of Duty 4 makes the cut because it's way too inconsistent and you can see where they cut some pretty big corners to keep the performance up. Don't get me wrong it's a great looking game. But if you dig deeper you quickly start to notice some nasty blemishes.
BioShock, DMC4, Burnout Paradise, Dead Rising and that's it, but Resident Evil 5 and Alan Wake will reign supreme.club-sandwich
oh yeah, re5 and alan wake totally.

I agree with that. I think what gets people is the 60 FPS that it runs at. For the most part it looks good (and sometimes really really good) but it has some rough spots like you said.
I actually think Halo 3 is a contender.
Not because of the detail or realistic graphics.
It just seems really clean and the attention to detail in the environments (such as the opening level in the Jungle, or the vegetation growing in maps like Valhalla or Guardian) make the game stand out a lot. The water is also really purdy.
I can see myself playing Halo 3 at the end of this generation and still not having any complaints with the graphics, because they are so clean and crisp. I don't think i can say that about many games, and its something that won't blow you away but you will appreciate months after release.
I always thought of Halo 3s visuals to be the exact definition of average.
Its nothing fantastic, and nothing terrible - all middle ground - e.g. some appaling technical limitations - resolution and anti analising - countered by nice lighting system.
Even the art style. Great designs - like the brutes vehicles - and terrible level designs
Some things simply didnt work. Brutes having jagged rough weapons, gear and vehicles - and then brutes in elaborate armour.

Don't the Brutes have the nice shiny armour because they took the position of the Elite honour guards in Halo 2? Its just a different type of armour to fit their physical structures.

Somewhat. It's a whole different story when you get them naked though :o[QUOTE="LEDZEPPELIN_49"]That's quite a pompous stance to have.Uncharted, anyone whos says otherwise hasnt played it.

No its not I agree with him 150%
1.Uncharted-Every part of that game is filled with a surreal beauty
2.Call of Duty 4-Everything has a scary realism to it
3.Tools of Destruction-Pixar like visuals and animations are amazing
4.Bioshock-The art direction is superb, everything around you has a so ugly its beautiful vibe
5.Gears of War-The best looking game of last year still looks superb today. The character models, environments and animations were all fantastic, it just had tough competition this year. Cant wait for Gears of War 2!!

Thats what I figured.Problem is it just doesent really work as well as it should. You have these rough ugly brutes, with bull like weapons and vehicles then this refined covenant armour.
While it does fit their stature, and look cool it just doesent work as well as it should. They need somthing more fierce and war like - that is more to their character - imo.

I hate to break it to you, but your opinion isn't always right.

1) Uncharted - not my opinion FACT.
2) Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3 >>>> Gears - again FACT, it's the new showcase for EPIC
3) Call of Duty 4 - on X360 or PS3 both great
1.) Uncharted
2.) UT3 "action cam" (looks like GEOW except better)
3.)GT5 Prologue
I do have a 360 but out of 15 games i played on it all the so called best looking 360 exclusives dont look better than the latter..
