Title says it all. Another thread got me thinking about horror games, so what would you say is the scariest game this gen? I would say the scariest one I have played through was Condemned: Criminal Origins. The atmosphere was just so well done and claustrphobic, I recently replayed it and I got scared a few times.

I think an honorable mention should go to Silent Hill Homecoming. The atmosphere was very, very well done, particularly in levels like the Grand Hotel.

amnesia. and come on, homecoming sucks as a terror game...being badass at combat really takes away the fear factor...why the hell should I be scared if my character is a god at fighting monsters? at least in other games you are encouraged to run from the enemy because the combat sucks, thats what makes them scary

Amnesia is brilliant.

It would sell well on xbox live or PSN.

I'm not much of a PC gamer so I've never played Amnesia. Has there been any word on it coming to Xbox 360 or Ps3?

Probably Amnesia (it's the only one I can think of). I just play Silent Hill 2 when I need a horror game (thank you 60gb BC PS3)

I never played all of Condemned 1, but I did beat Condemned 2. 2 was scary, but the first was a MUCH better horror game and I hope to see a sequel then can take the best parts from both games, and do away with the terrible "cult" story the second had.

i havnt played any horror games besides the one you mentioned and bioshock.. REmake has more jump scares...but bioshock is phychologically scarier..

I was playing Amnesia last night and nearly crapped my pants in the Storage Room section. I haven't been scared by any game/movie in a very long time

When does Dead Space get scary? I'm on chapter 5 I believe and haven't even been startled. I haven't played much Amnesia, it's gotten burried in the backlog, but I'm sure that's the scariest game from what I've heard.

I haven't played Amnesia. I own it, but my POS computer won't run it. So I really can't comment on it.

For me the original Dead Space in a room with the lights off, with surround sound and headphones made me jump a few times. For some reason the second DS didn't do that once. Silent Hill and Condemned did nothing. I can't say any game scared me, but DS surprised me a few times.

you are definitly not serious...I have nerves of steel when it comes to "horror" videogames and I can gladly say I got scared with amnesia...I even played the game on a laptop which sounded like a jetplane and had a broken display...

I second this. I've beaten just about every Horror game since Alone in the Dark on the PC and Amnesia is probably one of the scariest games of all time. I can understand getting midway through the game and not being scared (well thats if you catch one fatal fault the game has) but early on, especially exploring the art room, and dinning room was terrifying.

Well besides Amnesia, no game this gen was really "scary," some had intense moments like Silent Hill HC when you explore your house, or Siren when the monsters would flock at you. Some parts of Cursed Mountain weren't scary but still errie, to bad the controls ruined that experience.

STALKER games can be pretty scary if you approach it like a horror game. If you don't have any night vision, it's insanely scary at night. It's actually dark when it's cloudy, you can barely see anything.

Amnesia easily with minecraft right behind it.

Worst thing ever to see when you're in a dark cave is a creeper.

Penumbra scared me quite a bit. Amnesia wasn't as scary as many said.

That water beast scene was so over-rated by SW.

You say Bioshock is scary, then ask how DS is considered scary...... Anyways, Amnesia is the only correct answer.

It doesn't. I found the first few chapters to be very suspenseful, but never scary. The game is a shooter, you might jump a few times here and there, but it's hardly a true horror game.

Play it at night alone, with headphones on.
