Upon it's release a lot of people on this forum were bashing the Kinect, but in the end Microsoft proved them all wrong and made them eat their words.

According to Wikipedia... Kinect holds the Guiness World Record of being the "fastest selling consumer electroncs device".

It sold an average of 133,333 units per day with a total of 8 million units in its first 60 days.

10 million units of the Kinect sensor have been shipped as of March 9, 2011.

Dunno. Those putting down the potential hardware sales were stupid, however, those putting down the overall effectiveness of this as a gaming device were seemingly spot on.

Eh... nobody really doubted Kinects sales potential at all. It was the software. We wanted compelling software to go with the new tech. Can you post some links to some great games built for Kinect?

Nah the consensus was that Kinect would outsell Move.

Don't remember talks about it being a failiure in terms of sales.

I admit presently the games for the Kinect aren't all that great, but the device is still in it's infancy... a lot of interesting and good games though are coming soon that will appeal to more hardcore gamers.

A list of them can be found HERE

I knew the Kinect would sell well. I also knew that the games would be mostly shovelware and crap. Since I used the word "mostly" I am completely correct until proven otherwise. ;)

lundy86_4

I'll give you execution, but not concept. It allows for interesting games indeed, but maybe the tech is premature.

I especially liked the idea of the fitness game, and the dance one seemed alright, at the time of reveal. Turns out I was exactly spot on, in the sense that I spotted the only worthy games for the system :D

The only thing I see of interest on that list is Gears of War and Child of Eden, and I'm sure Gears will probably be some horrible on rails cash grab. So... Child of Eden /Core Games for Kinect

MS has pushed the kinect with many 360 bundles, that's why it's sold well. I get the impression MS doesn't want you to buy a 360 without kinect. The same is certainly not true for the PS3.

Certainly. I've always been behind the concept of Kinect, but unfortunately the execution has been severely lacking thus far. I'd like to see iterations in the future which'll be able to take advantage of much more.

I dunno, I quite distinctly remember many saying it would flop in terms of sales.

Probably just dudebros who bash stuff based on their personal preference without any reasoning.

Nobody gave compelling arguments that it would be a flop, just the usual 12 year old "It's gonna flopzz!!!212"

That stuff doesn't count man. It's the same people who consider 3DS a failiure lol.

Then when MS announced their marketing budget for Kinect, I don't think any sane person believed in the flop theory anyway.

I thought the price was a pretty compelling argument. I still shocked it's sold this well. The closest thing to a killer app it has is Dance Central and the excitement for that game has pretty much died off.

I do recall a lot of people saying MS were dumb for spending 500 million dollars on advertising and they were going to struggle to make up that because that was apparently a lot, considering they made a massive profit when it costs 48 dollars to make a Kinect. lol

I don't get it what do the complains that people had about it shallowness have to do with Kinect selling good or not,is a gimic basically with shallow games, sales can't change that. Even the Wii sold great so there is no surprise there,It sold 8 million in its first 2 months, but 2 more month latter was sitting at 10 million units shipped, that is a steep slow down, which pretty much show that Kinect sold on the xbox 360 like black ops did,but after reaching a certain number of sales it staled. How much has it sold by now since March 9.? I don't know now i try to google 12 millions an nothing came, but at the end of April the 29 to be exact on MS financial report they say Kinect is at 10.5 million units the 29 of aApril was just a few weeks ago, which mean that Kinect sales have dropped like a stone,it would be interesting some real numbers, any way here is the link to the 10.5 millions units. http://www.kinectaku.com/news/2011/04/strong_kinect_sales_help_microsoft_to_50_percent_more_profit

Not to burst your bubble, but Kinect hasn't been selling that great over the last couple months. Kinect sales have actually fallen behind the sales of Wii Fit, a 2-yr old peripheral. I'm Kinect sales will pick back up during Christmas time, but Kinect is not the 2nd coming of the Wii. I'm sure Kinect sales will also pick back up once they get all these new games M$ has been promising.

kinect sales are heavily boosted by the fact that it is a pack in now for systems. Kinect is a limp product that doesn't have enough quality software support and quite frankly i can't see how it possibly ever could

It has the Wii Effect.

Someone brought back their Kinect and Games to my Local Gamestop before and the reason they gave out was "I already have a Wii."

My friend who has the Device tells me there's NOTHING for the dang system except a Pet Simulator and Dance Games.

Kinect may have sold fast but it certianly doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot. At least the Wii has some games.

The link i posted put kinect a few weeks ago at 10.5 million units considering it sold 8 million is just 60 days,10.5 million by almost may is a huge drop in sales.in january 4 the unit was 60 days old,and had 8 millions, fast forward almost 4 months latter and it just added 2.5 million units,it went from selling 4 million units a month to selling some 675,000 which isn't bad,but show a huge drop in sales. Never the less 10.5 million units in like 6 months is very good.

I never said it wouldn't sell. The fact is the "naysayers" were right in assuming that there would be no good games for it.
