In all honesty, I think everyone is at a bit of a lost this gen in some respects. MS just seems all over the place, but sure they seem to think they know what they want. However, I find their business tactics still questionable. The high defect rate of 360's is unacceptable, and they seem to be doing nothing for it. The games they have are great, but it's kind of looking like MS isn't really trying to expand much beyond shooters for the system, and a few other genres, that I honestly think they are catering too hard to a specific crowd.

Sony is just being quite arrogant ATM. The high price of the PS3 isn't helping, the lack of gaining real exclusives to the system, and the fact that they just seem totally off this gen in terms of business tactics, sales, and well most importantly just making smart decisions to ensure me that my PS3 won't be collecting much dust.

Nintendo's DS is a fine piece of hardware, however the Wii still needs to prove me that the Wii Remote will be working and possibly become a standard in gaming. It's a great thing now, and I can see this thing having a bright future, but we just need more diverse games like DS has, that proves it. I imagine it may take time like the DS did, because in the beginning itwasn't showing anything to me, now I really can't see myself playing certain games without a touch screen.

I'd say Sony. They are losing money on every PS3 they sell, and it's costing them.

Not in the least. It's all to make more money in the end. Doesn't mean it's not nice to not pay more then it's worth to produce.

True, but the counter argument to that would be wanting it to cost less to produce so they could charge us less.

And then the counter argument of that would be that they'd have to spend less on hardware and such (like the Wii - I'm assuming that's what you were hinting at) and that could affect the quality of games.

A lot of people like nice graphics. I know I personally would rather play GTAIV on the PS3 with the standard controller rather than GTAIV on Wii. Why? Cause I know R* don't need a new controller to be unique. (Not bashing Wii - Just defending PS3)

I was talking about the features which have a debatable effect on gaming. ;)

Last place goes to PS3. Wow where the hell do I start?

  • $600
  • Still hasn't appealed to the Japanese market
  • Controller came without Rumble
  • Lack of quality games especially when compared to its precursor.
  • Hardware wasn't built to show immediate results.
  • Constant delays before the launch

On the up side though they have given us a stable network in PSN. I don't consider Blu-Ray to be a benifit to the gamer.

Blackbond

Those points are a little unjustified imo:

  • $600 - Agreed, it's too expensive
  • Slow start is true but it's not like Sony hasn't gone out of their way to get games that will appeal to Japan. I'm mainly talking about FFXIII of course.
  • Does it have to be a traditional controller? What's wrong with a little change? Isn't that why everyone likes the Wiimote?
  • No, that's wrong. The PS2's launch games (up to MGS2/FFX's release) weren't too impressive either.
  • What are you basing that off? Ubisoft's ports?
  • A delay is a good thing. Rushing isn't good. It could lead to hardware malfunctions.

I don't really get the unjustified attacks against the PS3. And I know I'm a Sony fan but I've never found it hard to admit flaws with things I may admire, so I'm not being bias in my defending points.

You mean Blu-ray?

I don't know what to think about that. All I know is that its bumped the price of the PS3 up way too much, $600 is way too expensive (imo) for a console, even if the PS3 ain't overpriced.

Then agan, it could be great in the long run. Just gotta wait and see with that one I suppose. Sure, using DVD would have been benefitial initially but could it have lasted? Would it have pushed the industry forward? Don't know for sure. All speculation really.

I agree we can't know long term really but the product is available now and there are no benefits yet, so for now you are eating the costs for little to no benefit so that Sony can push an entirely seperate product. That is definately a valid poiint of crtiicsim in my mind.

Yes, a very valid point of criticism because of the fact that it is an unknown and unproven.

Wii falls in last place on this one they dont care ifb all their games suck as long as pple buy them....Sony is barely getting a profit even for its $600 price tag and they trying to give us aFREE online community (HOME) and working PS3 exclusives. 360 is in the middle they still being wat they've been all year but they need to make XBL FREE!!!! Then there will be alot of pple online and no more worries about paying $50 a year.

These aren't unjustified attacks this is basically the truth. If it wasn't then the PS3 would be selling a crap load better right now. PS3 is on the road to recovery but anybody who denies that its presently a disaster is just to hopeful in their situation.

  • Like you said $600 is expensive
  • FFXIII isn't out so yes they haven't appealed to Japan yet
  • Still doesn't change the fact that they don't have rumble
  • PS2 had Tekken Tag
  • Um its not just Ubisoft or have you played F.E.A.R, Enchant Arms, Armored Core, ect
  • Delays are good but also bad. Had their console been released in Spring it could have taken the wind out of the 360 and probably the Wii seeing as how the weakest system would come out much later then the others.

In my opinion, I think MS is the only thing that's still keeping me gaming.

There's no way I'm going to spend 600$$ for a system that has failed several times in delivering what they promised and still has nothing much worth calling a game within the first seven months..(with the exception of R:FOM of course; which I thinkis just another normal fps if you ask me)

The wii doesn't appeal to me as a gamer...no disrespect sheep, but to me it seems like all Nintendo progressed in is the motion controller thing which I can pretty much do without.

The 360...I'm still skeptical about it, but so far it's the only consol that seems to be pulling weight and actually delivering compared to the previous two...

The best choice is a PC if you can handle it....

I'm going to have to side with MS on this one. =)

verbalfilth

thats most likey a better gamer respond on system wars i seen in so long, though they thats the main goal is the controller motion sensors, as not all gears are going to use it. but alot of people want opiton to be able to play it.

with motion sensors, or regular controllers. i think it will happen in the end.

anyways i had 360. but i really couldnt find a game that i really got into :(

~-~Bingo. Imagine what would happen if Blu Ray became as main stream as DVDs are now. Sony would be raking in more than any game system could probably make. People say that Sony was dumb for forcing Blu Ray on people with the PS3. But really it was the smartest move they could make when you look at it from Sony's point of view.~-~

Out of the big 3 who do you guys think are working hardest to cater to what the gamers (us) actually want?

My thoughts:

Sony - PS3 price is too expensive, but the lineup does suggest Sony know what gamers want. New IPs such as Uncharted, Lair, and Heavenly Sword all look very interesting. I'd say Sony is working hard, but they can do better, starting by lowering the price of the PS3.

Microsoft - Elite is really unnecessary, and could have been available at launch. 3 SKUs in the market isn't exactly a bright idea. Game wise, MS are catering to what the fans want: Halo 3, Mass Effect and Bioshock are all impressive looking games. Securing GTAIV day one shows MS is working hard too. MS needs to do big things in 2008 to compete with the PS3 though, we'll see what MS has planned at E3.

Nintendo - Could make the Wii price cheaper. Yeah, I know there's nothing in it for them considering how well it's selling but it's overpriced for what it's offering atm. Nintendo also needs to prove that they're trying to reel in the big 3rd party titles, we'll see what happens at E3/TGS.

What do you guys think? Who's working hardest for us and what can the companies do better to please us?

the-very-best

MICROSOFT.

Sony is working hardest for themselves to survive! If they were working hardest for us, we'd have good games out right now! We're still waiting on two killer-app exclusives that were scheduled for freaking March and then May (Lair and Heavenly Sword) and we can't even get games about Rubber Ducks from the PSN on time. To hell with Sony working hard, all they focus on is hype and doesn't benefit us at all! Screw em'.

Nintendo working hard? Yeah right....anyone that thinks that needs a good slap in the face. A Gamecube with a new controller doing nothing but creating rehashes of Gamecube games. Oh wow, that's sure worth the purchase....

As for Microsoft, they gave us the Elite (THAT IS NOT POINTLESS) to give it's gamers a chance to play games in 1080p rather than just 1080i with the HDMI cable capability. It also gave us a bigger HDD, much bigger than what the PS3 has. Their also giving up Halo 3, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, Lost Oddyssey and potentially Fable 2 this year, all 1P exclusives....if that's not enough, how about all the promo items for the Halo release? The helmet! Am I the only one that thinks that's a cool add on to what should be an awesome purchase anyways?

MS is working the hardest, bottomline. E3 will show a lot, but if Sony comes just packing the hype again rather than delivering, like they did with Motorstorm and Resistance, then their grave may already be dug.

Nintendo. They're trying to keep gaming affordable, that, in my opinion, is for the gamer's sake (even though it can be a little cheaper, it's a lot more reasonable than MS and Sony).

Both Microsoft and sony arent makeing any profit at all this gen ps3 too much money and 360 microsoft is still in debt from the xbox.
