Because Valve is too lazy to make a new engine for the ps3 and they wont get as much profit as they would on the 360 or pc.sethman410

wrong, valve is to lazy to make a new engine in general, the engine is dated and they keep reusing it.... They need to make a new one

... Not only was their engine some of the best looking when its release.. It still looks real good in games like Team Fortress 2.... Left 4 Dead etc etc.. Graphics do not make a game either, and most would consider source engine still a great engine capable of doing just about anything.. Especially with ingenious mods like Gary's mods.. Than we have imaginative games like Aliens Swarm infestation and Natural Selection 2 coming out using the engine still.

Basically, they are lazy.

Wait, let me defend myself before you flame me.

Basically you all agree that it is easier to port to 360 rather than PS3 as it is easier to develop for. Now, in my book, if someone refuses to do something that might require a bit more effort than usual, I think that's lazy.

smithster118
Sure, but in this case they don't got the manpower. Valve is actually a small company, and they have many, many IPs not to mention the Steam service to take care of. They'd rather concentrate on making their games high quality for fewer platforms rather than spending alot of unnecessary time porting it to a console with complex hardware, which would divide the group even more and make their game lower in quality which they are not willing to sacrifice.

Porting the Source Engine to the PlayStation takes a lot more work than it does creating it for the Xbox 360. Hence, they also look at the statistics. Why waste precious time developing for a system that takes a lot more effort and work, on a platform with the smallest Userbase?

Yeah...I think that's the best course of action to take with this thread. "they lack experience..." I should've brought more popcorn.

They probably are making a new engine, it could actually be why Half Life Ep3 is taking so long, they want it to look beastly.

I'd much rather want Valve to make Half-Life Ep 3 using their current engine and make a new engine with Half-Life 3. How we can all dream...

lol, yeah but im sure Half life 3 is a looooooong way off, so far off that they will probably replace their new engine with another one.

Why all this hate on Valve? Seriously. That's a huge "sour grapes" argument. Valve makes great games - the Half Life series isarguably the best fps series ever made. Counterstrike has been the most popular multiplayer fps game ever. Valve is very user friendly and has supported the mod community throughout the years unlike many other developers. Simply because they don't support one console over another doesn't make them "lazy", narrowminded, or stupid. There have been plenty of great developers that have only supported one console or the other throughout the years. Would you call Konami/Kojima narrowminded or lazy? I wouldn't.

I read an article a while ago on another gaming website which was saying about how valve isn't going to be developing for the ps3 anymore. Their reason being that the ps3 was too difficult to develop for and that the pc and 360 are just easier to work with and that it was costing them too much to develop for the ps3.

I mean, the Ps3 is the future of gaming, is any other console running on blu-ray?

Why does Valve like living in the passt with with 360 and PC? M$ pay-off?

Coffeemakes

The future of gaming is..........drumroll.........a storage medium.

How banal.

Others have said. Why waste time trying to get it to work with a new system when everything is perfectly fine as is? They already have things good on the PC, with some stuff available for the 360 to get some more money.

They lack experience and don't want to learn. PS2_ROCKS
Lack experience? These guys revolutionized the first-person shooter. They routinely make superb games, and they also have an excellent sense of humor. Not to mention how they're leading the way in digital distribution.

I mean, this is a stupid, stupid system. The notion that these people "lack experience" or are "lazy" as another user put it, is absolutely asinine. I mean, lazy? These people are perfectionists. Look at Team Fortress 2, for crying out loud, they didn't release it until it was finished. Not to mention that they continually release free updates with new content.

I mean... sheesh...

If it ain't broke don't fix it.. Most would agree that the Source engine has aged well especially with Valve constantly updating it.. Not to mention the engine is extremely versatile with the numerous mods coming out for it.. I just don't see it neccesary what so ever making a new engine anytime soon.

I don't think Valve likes the 360 that much either they just develop for it because it's cheaper and much easier.

Valve games are PC games at the heart though. All Valve games are 10x better on PC.

Valve is probably one of the best game developers in the world :|

I wouldn't agree with that. They seem to be narrow minded when it comes to platforms other than the PC except for the 360 only because it's convenient for them.

Team ICO is narrow minded then. See how this logic is horribly flawed?

Not really, I thought he called them narrow minded because they're satisfied utilizing a specific type of hardware -- they work on the 360 because it's closer to working on the PC. A platform they're well adjusted to at this point. They work on the two platforms because their similarities. Team ICO only works on one platform because Sony owns them. Personally, I find their jazz a little insulting when they're still throwing Source at us.

Didnt this debate end long ago? wow fanboys really are ruthless. They just wont want to take the risk at the moment in this economy especially as the 360 is doing well, but if the ps3 keeps going up this slope they probibly will start releasing games on there quite soon.

Sony owns them? Ah well I am indeed incorrect in comparison, I thought it was more of a case of them being an independent developer funded to work on the PlayStation platform.

Honestly If a developer chooses to prioritise platforms over another it is hardly being narrow minded.

Ironically those judging them in such a way are acting so.... as you would expect a developer to have done a substantial amount in factoring in the viability of developing for a platform....

Compared to a person on a forum.

Of course, there needs to be a benefit toward PS3 development. Valve probably doesn't see it as viable at this point. I think their reasoning when it ends at the PS3 being too different is a little shallow, but of course financially it probably doesn't make sense when they've currently got a good thing going with PC/360 development. A shame too, I'm currently without a gaming PC or my 360 and I would love to play some Left 4 Dead.

Haha, lots of Valve hate going on here. Always a pleasure to dip in to System Wars after working with sensible, more grounded and unbiased gamers who recognise quality no matter the platform.

Valve dont have to make games for anybody. From what I understand they'd like to develop on the PS3, but it's a beast to develop for and they dont have the "bandwidth".
