[QUOTE="death1505921"]The 50 cent example is great. It sold well but it sucks. YOu can't argue 50 cent bulletproof is teh awsome, cause it sold. It sucked. It's exactly the same with consoles. You can't argue a console is teh awsome 'cause it sold if it sucks ass. And it was decided in a mass poll.death1505921

LoL, does anybody know why bulletproof sold well? I do. Because 50 cent was the newrap extravaganzaaaa! People only bought it for the name so it's a bad reflection.

I think it's a perfect example. Sums up the PS3 beautifully. People buy because of names and brands. They are called fan boys. This a first time at system wars?

How dare you! The whole point is that the PS3 ISN'T selling which is why there aren't many great games out on it. '08 maybe, we'll see, but not ATM

Gamewise, the ps3 shouldnt be selling at all and the brand thing was aimed at nintendo. Should have made that clear.

Ninty = Casuals and people who think NINTY R TEH BEST

Ps3 = shouldnt really be selling much

360 = people who bought it before ps3 came out, and whoever wants games.

Sales don't matter because even if it didnt sell, people would still develop for it. The ps3 is selling like crap, but it hasnt suddenly stopped having games made for it. After all, would you buy a console because it sells well, but you hate it? Or a console that you enjoy playing but not many people have.

Theres a reason wii players are called sheep.

WRONG AGAIN

[QUOTE="TheJuiceyBar"]Typical sheep defending the sales, the wii sucks, go play with your gimmick remote while im playing the better console.channtheman1

Why does the Wii suck really? Give a few lines, and I'll accept if they are good. (Hope there aren't any clever lemmings on today) (Maybe it's more likely a Cow comes in and makes me look like a pie...)

I wanna play a console that can have the whole package, quality graphics, Superb sound, great animations and etc... wii games lacklustered on that area IMO, thats why i hate the wii, i actually sold it.

Damn straight. That's why I sold my Wii too. All these sheep think that their console is so great but the games suck (for the most part, IMO), and so does motion control. It is glitchy and it wasn't even 1:1. Like on Resident Evil 4, I can shake my hand real hard on the Wii version or i could just tap a button on the PS2 version (for the interactive cutscenes). It wasn't an step forward, it was more like a step sideways.

It's all you're opinion and has nothing to no with sales mattering or not :P Oh yeah and Wiimote>>>>DA

See, THIS IS HOW YOU WRITE A SENTENCE.

Sales matter, but not to me.

NOT

sales don't matter to me.

Because it's system wars, and on SW people flame you for anything

I've had a rough day and I can't be arsed to write too formaly.

The point is, you managed to interpret what I wrote. As did others who quoted me. I think I managed to get my point across, and that's all that matters to me in my current state of mind ;)

A casual is a person that is random, and does not really buy it of knowledge. So it is a bit random that 10 mill people bought a wii? That's odd.

I thought you were talking about salaries. Eg: people who do amazing jobs that save livee (firefighters, doctors, nurses) get paid C to the R to the A to the P money; and people who sit on their fat @sses all day get paid shed loads just for doing exactly that. :P

groudyogre

Your knowledge of capitalistic economics is ludicrously limited. These people that sit around and get paid well, do so because no one else can, i.e. they've earned an academic degree that few others were talented enough to achieve, otherwise, they would have. Supply and Demand. It's quite fundamental really. Not that this has anything to do with gaming, I just thought it was worth pointing out.

So has nobody got a valid reason for sales in general not mattering? No? Oh well, Wii - 1 ; 360 - 1 ; PS3 - 0. Sorry cows.groudyogre

Sales matter. Some people aren't very sharp and may not relise it, but they matter. Obviosly, just because a product sells well doesn't mean the product is good. Look no further than 50 cent's game for one of the best examples. But to ignore the paramount importance of sales in the console wars is well, stupid.

a) More console SALES = More games.

"I'm about games, not sales." Ahh yes, heard that a million times. Who isn't? Still, it shouldn't be hard to understand that more console sales/install base translates into more games. (I say "shouldn't" because some people are immune to reason here on SW.) A console with a large install base recieves more third party support. (Think PS2.) It will also get games that may have otherwise not gotten. (Think DMC4, VF4, RE5 and other games jumping ship to 360.) It may also loose games that it would otherwise have. (Xbox, GC, and Soul Calibur 3) If you are all about games, then you should hope your console is all about sales.

b ) Sales generally determine console winners.

While sales aren't a great measure for game quality, (Hello Who wants to be a Millionare PC!) they are usually the measure by which console succes is determined. Individual fans can and will argue that their console of choice "won" for any number of reasons, but most people rely on cold hard sales. Last gen? PS2 dominated. The one Before? Ps1 took the crown. Dreamcast? Good games, but it failed. Sales, sales, sales. Once you leave fanboy wonderland, sales play a paramount role.

So lets apply that to the Wii without putting our brains in a suitcase....

a) Wii is winning. Fair enough. Some may hate to admit it, but of the new consoles, it is hard to deny. The longer Wii can sustain it's monsterous sales pace, the better positioned it will be for the long haul. It has already benifited from strong sales. Many third party developers are scrambling to develop for Wii. That means more games.

Now lets put our brains back in. And consider some important factors:

- The Wii's huge price advantage will be mostly eliminated in the future.

360 and PS3 fans don't seem very bothered by Wii outselling their consoles. Why? Well, based on its price it should be outselling their consoles. Understand, I'm not trying to downplay the huge sales of the Wii. But rather point out that the real competiton between the three consoles will be when the 360 and PS3 hit mass market prices. (Maybe $200 vs. the Wii at $100.) Once the prices come down, the competition will heat up. The question with the Wii has always been how it will hold up in the long run.

- Who are buying Wiis?

This is important. I want nintendo to cater to me, the gamer. I want more Smash Bros, Zelda, Metroid. I want real internet with voice chat for my SSBB, not this kid safe d-pad junk! Wii Fit... no thanks. How about getting us a port of RE5? If you are a sheep and are not concerned, then its wake up time!

Sales matters to you because your Wii's games ain't winning anything. AAA exclusive is still on 360's side byUSA-EUROPE far. If this was the opposite, Nintendo fans would be down with Games > Sales. THE END.

Though, if you somehow own Nintendo stocks, then it's a win for YOU. I doubt that though. 95%+ of the whole Nintendo fanbase.

redneckdouglas

Games matter to you because your 360 isn't selling.

sales lead to great games being made for a platform, but don't alone count as quality.

In a way sales should matter in who wins console wars.....Actually many things should depend on what makes a console win but most importantly yourself...Anyways, We cant just go by reviews becuase at the end they'll always be opinions and opinions differ greatly, while sales will always be sales. Also we got to take in consideration about how they sell (where and if it has a defect rate.....but thats the less important stuff...) Though i think scores are the most important thing in a console, they will still be opinions and mines might changed from yours, i think Shadow of the Collusus should have scored higher, also how do we know 100% thats the reviewers arent biased (im not saying they are but we can never be too sure also what if they had those moment swhere their biased may b from like 2 points....its still will be 2 points..).....Also sales mean how many people bought the consoels and might be enjoying it or atleast were interested to buy one and we all know the people who buy something will most likely play it everynow and then or alot....Anyways to end this im saying Sales arent the most important thing, but they should matter greatly on what affect the winner, I think it should be a mix of Scores and sales.

Sales DO matter, and also many other factors....

Written by Mark Schilling

Wednesday, 27 June 2007

Story Categories: games, Japan, Sony, Tokyo,

TOKYO -- Japan's Big Three vidgame makers plan to launch more titles and ship more units for Nintendo's game systems, including its smash hit Wii console, than for the PlayStation 3 and other competing Sony products in fiscal 2007, according to a Nikkei newspaper survey.

Namco Bandai will up its Nintendo titles by 109% to 115; Sega by 96% to 49; and Capcom by 5% to 20. Meanwhile, the three majors intend to cut shipments of titles for Sony machines by 30%-40%.

Shipments of Nintendo titles will total 26.88 million units in fiscal 2007 vs. 23.29 million units of Sony game software. Capcom alone will boost its Nintendo shipments 81% to 4.7 million units.

Besides brisk worldwide demand for Wiis, which are outselling PS3s two to one in the U.S. and three to one in Japan, gamemakers are attracted to the Wii because of its lower development costs as compared with the far more sophisticated PS3. Square Enix, another Japanese software major, has no plans to develop titles for the PS3 until sales improve enough to make the steep development costs financially worthwhile.

In a related development, Nintendo's market value briefly surpassed Sony's on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Monday -- a company first and another indication of the reversal of fortune between the two game biz rivals. Nintendo's share price hit a record ¥46,350 ($376.80), boosting its market value to $53.4 billion, ahead of Sony's, even though Nintendo is a game specialist while Sony is a global electronics and entertainment powerhouse with a far more diverse product range.

Sales don't matter b/c this gen it doesn't accurately indicate which console will be getting the best games. I've explained why so many times, I'm tired of doing it now. So I won't.

This has been bugging me for a while now. Everytime somebody get one ups on someone else, people think of an excuse for it to be invalid. EG:

"Wii has already outsold the 360 Wii>>>You"

Answer "Teh salzez don't matter anyway" WTF??

"PS3/360 have better Graphixx We>>Wii"

Answer "My PC 0wnZorZ your little PS3/360 so HA!"

"We have great games like MP3, SSBB, SMG, RE:UC, Zack and Wiki etc..."

"Teh KidDiNeSZ!"

It really gets on my nerves and you all know you do it sometimes. I'm sure I've done it a fair few times as well, but I think that sales do matter otherwise people wouldn't bring them up in the first place.

groudyogre

It's true though. Technically speaking, the sales don't mean a thing to the consumer. It's the companies that need to worry about it. I have never, and will never care about the sales of any console. As long as I can buy it, and play games, I'm happy.

Sales don't matter.

But only because I don't care much for what other people think. Scores? Yeah. . don't care about that either.

You guys can whine and moan about all that but I'll be busy playing games. . 'cause. . you do know games are recreational, right? To entertain yourself. . Oh. You thought there was some absurd competition you were part of? It's all right. . it happens a lot.

AncientDozer

Great post! That's exactly what I'm talking about. Why worry about the sales of a damn machine when you can just sit back and enjoy.

System Wars is about discussing the differences between the new consoles, and games. It's not about who has the better sales.

Lemming: Gears of war is the best-selling next gen game

Sheep: I thought sales didn't matter

Lemming: Software sales count, because we are good at them.

Sheep: Twilight princess has sold more than Gears (Wii and Gc version combined) and hasn't been out for as long.

Lemming: Because it is also on GC it is last gen.

Sheep: I thought the gen started when X360 launched

Lemming: It did, but it is also on GC so it is last gen.

Sheep: Ok, but then it is the game that tied has the 2nd best critic scores on GS ever (after OoT) (The GC version) and best for it's generation.

Lemming: Only gamespot scores count!

Sheep: So mercury meltdown = Eternal sonata?

Lemming:No way! Eternal sonata is much better! GS scores are just opinions.

See, this thread won't make a difference to this...

Aww, man. Sums up SW pefectly.
