So Wii U is the console to purchase this year...

You purchase a console for games, right? While the PS4 and Xbox One languish with mediocre launch titles that seem to be underperforming relative to expectations, Wii U has silently built up a hell of a library over the last one year. By and large, the below list will try and focus on exclusives only, and not talk about multiplats like Batman, Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty, all of which are also on Wii U (although 'best' versions of multiplats might be included):

So if you're looking for a new console to buy this holiday? Can't go wrong with the Wii U. All those games above? All except one are exclusive, all rated AAE or higher.

Not to mention most major multiplats are on the system too.

Thank you Nintendo, for showing us that it is about the games.

Glad I already have one. The system itself has come a long way from launch. The OS has been cleaned up considerably, and now Wii U finally has games to back itself up.

Yep! I'm so glad I went with 3DS and WiiU and decided to wait until PS4 gets some games. It's working out really well for me. 3DS has been really strong for some time now and Wii U's really busting out now and next year looks quite strong as well. Having those two systems and a PS3 for stuff like Ultra Street Fighter IV and Dark Souls 2 means getting PS4 is not a priority at all right now. I'm busy.

I'll agree it wasn't a great system until the games started coming (which is presumably when you owned it), but now that it does have the games, it is a great system.

If I had a little kid, I would definitely buy it for him. But I instead will stick to the adult themed games with lots of gore and violence. But I will have Nintendo consoles in mind for when I have kids.

@KiZZo1: The thing is at this rate I don't think the One or PS4 is going to beat it after their first years. At least not through the first 8 months or so, we'll see what they have for the holidays next year.

that is a very decent library....even has a AAAE as the cherry on top..

The Wii U won't be enticing until Mario Kart and Smash Bros are released.

The thing that is appealing to me is its backward compability. Since I never had a Wii I have though about getting U and play through the Galaxy and Zelda games and ofc continue with th new ones. But I still just don't think it's enough to invest in a new box with all the hassle and stuff than entails. I dunno, I really wish ninty went third party, then I would pick up several of their games for sure.

Kind of funny, I am considering buying one these days, but every time I consider it I end up having to go through the "but I need the basic controller, and unsure how many games support the basic controller on the Wii U".

A debate inside my head, that exists only to prolong the wait till I end up buying it.

You mean the pro controller? You only need that to play local multiplayer on a few games. Most games use the wiimotes.

i play only on playstation,but i dont gimp myself to yearly shooters.if it's quality ,i'll buy it. You should not look at what age the game is being targetted at, you should look at quality. By quality ,i mean games like Spyro/SMG games.No boobs no gore and no guns. Still AAAE franchises.

The Wii U has a killer app with Mario, but I still won't buy one until SSB4 comes out.

I can guarantee I'd sooner get a Wii U than a PS4, though. Nothing on the horizon for PS4 has me excited, apart from MGSV, which may actually come to PC.

I agree, although I might not have been as blunt. It's not a strong enough library. The new Mario game is the only one that stands out for me. Don't want any more New Super Mario Bros and I have Windwaker on my GC.

IF you're going by games, the PS3 is the best option to get if you're looking into the short term of what to go for this Christmas, money doesn't grow on trees, the Wii U costs £229. No way is that Wii U list of games enough to make the non Nintendo fan want a Wii U. On the PS3 you have GTA 5, GT6, Fifa 14 and a whole gens worth of past games.

The PS4 and X1 both have a guaranteed future in which, fanboyism aside, all the Xbox fans and PS fans agree is just going to get better and better. But no one knows what the Wii U is going to look like. All the people who got a Wii that just collected dust the whole gen are going to be cautious about buying another Nintendo home console.

Other than Nintendo starting to release games that aren't fillers like NSMB and The Windwaker, the console still hasn't picked up momentum at least to the point in which people can see a bright future for the console.

I wrote my wishlist for my birthday. Of the games included, Wii U exclusives dominated that list, for comparisons sake, only 1 game on the Xbox 1 interests me, and not a single PS4 game intrigues me in the slightest.

There would have been a ton of PC games, but I tend to get those day one so yeah ;) Also, like others said, you kinda missed out on Zombi U.

Yes, the Wii U is on a roll. I found it a way better purchase than PS4 or Xbone because it's cheaper and has a bigger library by now. I have no interest in third party release because I play those on PC. So PS4s and Xbones list of exclusives is really meager.

But I find that the game I'm playing on WiiU now is (next to ZombiU) ... Super Mario Galaxy :P haha

You're salty cause Nintendo games don't have explosions that go BOOM! Don't worry I'm sure the ps4 and xbone can have multiple explosions on screen at once without framerate suffering.
