[QUOTE="ArisShadows"]How similiar is this to like Socom 3? Is there vehicles? I think I will pop it in finally tommorow and play it. SantesyuI believe its what halo 3 is to halo 2, bascially the same thing except better..*yes vehicles*
Awesome. Any old map redone from previous ones?
[QUOTE="Malta_1980"]Just wondering , which view do you use when playing ?got the game last saturday and cant keep away from it... its my first SOCOM console game (since i only played PSP games previously) but though its got some server issues and its not graphically amazing its a great game...
I personally would give it a solid 8/10, maybe 8.5/10 considering its an mp only game and atm there are some server issues... hopefully mags/sites will wait a couple of weeks before posting their final reviews...
Nike_Air
the shoulder view..... personally i find it easier for aiming and moving around.... i still need to get used to it but though its not an easy game specially when facing a tough opponent its still accessible to newcomers like myself...
I also noticed that a good 85% of the people on the servers has mics/bluetooth sets etc so communation is not a problem...
and SOCOM shows how great it is when playing escorting vips... its really tactical and i have to apologise to the guys i was playing with yesterday since they were really good and i quite sucked at first... :)
anyway i would suggest this game to anyone, specially those who are patient and dont mind the current server issues, although its not such a huge problem as many think.. its really not that bad

Thats good there a great deal of mic users on it, the community on the previous entries were very chatty and helpful.

yeah its great, games such as socom really require communication... you can run & gun but its not the spirit of this game... personally i enjoy more when my team finds strategic position or we agree to split in smaller teams of 2 or 3..this way we can cover each other...
when capturing points its also good not to just rush to reach and capture the point but go at least in couples so while you or your team mate captures the point you can cover him... its not always like that but you realise you have more fun when your team works as a TEAM rather than everyone for himself...

Cool, perhaps, I see ya on there. :P
It doesn't bother me that it's getting less than great reviews. I was never going to buy it, same with Warhawk. The only reason I needed to make that decision is when I learned that there would be no single player campaign. Online is great, but the meat and bones of video games for me is the single player mode. It's too bad, because I loved the other Socom games.ElectronicMagic
As much as I love single player, Socom's meat is that multiplayer.
I need to open mine from the wrapping, and play it. Damn with Saints Row 2 and Fable 2 here, damn. Kinda happy LBP was pushed back so I could get some time on those three games.ArisShadows
Just wait a little before starting with Socom. They still need to work out the online bugs.

sure feel free to add me up....

No vehicles at all.
It's alot like socom 2-3 with some /6 (devs) touches. Like throwing underhand and overhand grenade throwing and sixaxis leaning.
It also has a new camera angle option. Over the shoulder.
My favorite with Socom: confront are the night fights. It looks so sweet with the Nightvision.
Some maps have gotten larger, though you can still choose the small version of the map.
The developers have said they are going to add more maps as time goes. I just hope they make a Fabela (brazilian slum) map :)
If they don't do it, then i'll make one for FarCry 2 :P
Online only games will always be hard to review since server problems will always be a problem . so they have to include it into the process of reviewing it
[QUOTE="W1NGMAN-"][QUOTE="hopesfall2own"][QUOTE="W1NGMAN-"]I refer you to my earlier post. Pretty pathetic on their part."No getting around it: This review will soon be inaccurate."
And that pretty much sums up that review.
hopesfall2own
I don't care, already bought the game and it's fun....they could have just waited for the patch to come out before they posted their review but whatever.
you act like its acceptable to reneg on reviews based on fixing released problems. Will reviews change their scores on Mercenaries 2 when it gets a patch? What about if Ninja Gaiden 2 fixed its camera and then got bumped to a 9? What if Too Human gets a patch and bumps it to an 8? Give me a break, its unacceptable to release a review saying it doesn't count. :roll:While i agree with you some games need to be re-reviewed most games that are mp only online have a lot of problems on release (wow, warhawk) so certain games need a re-review. I think it would be funny if they re-reviewed NG2 it would be lower then the 8 .5 it got because you cant even beat the game if you update it with the patch.
It'll most likely get a 7.5 here in Gamespot I bet. I'm not going to waste my money on it. I am thinking about trying Warhawk however. I keep hearing how good it is. I still wish they would make a single campaign for that game. XanderZane
There is a Warhawk demo.
Though Socom community is much better then the Warhawk community. That's the reason i will stop playing Warhawk.
"So, yes, in what I hope will be a very short time, this review will be inaccurate. We'll post an updated review once the game's actually, you know, done, and we'll all laugh that Confrontation could've ever gotten a score this low. But right now, the game sitting on store shelves and on PSN has major flaws that keep it from being the ****c I'm hoping it'll be. Fans of serious, realistic tactical shooters will want to set aside the cash to pick this up someday soon.
Just not today."
so once the issues get fixed they will put up a new review

well Warhawk is amazing... i got it upon release last year and still play it... but am getting addicted to SOCOM & already addicted to Battlefield: BC....
I really dont know how will i find time for the above mentioned games + LBP, Resistance2 & Geow2 once they get released :)
Socom has great sound quality, great and addictive gameplay, it has pretty good graphics that are hard for me to explain lol, they look great but really different than most games out now . Its only downside is the issues with the servers, but I still got to play Sunday night from 11pm til 5:30 am monday morning lol. Just couldn't get myself away from the darn thing lol.
As of right now I would give the game a 8-8.5. Once servers are running smoothly and the features such as messaging, friend invites, and calander working properly it wouldn't be hard to say this game is a 9-9.5. The dang gameplay is just so addicting and I love extraction :)
Oh yea I use classic view, you get so much more vision that way compared to what you lose when using over the shoulder view.
Even though I am considered a Lemming, I feel that isn't fair to review a game with server issues. Let them fix it and then review the game. The old Socoms rocked, and I am pretty sure this one will too (once the lag and server issues are fixed that it).Dr_Snood

It's perfectly fair to review the game in its current state seeing as it's been released to the public. Gaming journalists shouldn't have to wait for developers to patch their games before they are reviewed. Slant Six and SCEA sent the game out to reviewers and the general public obviously before it was ready and they should've delayed it if they wanted it to be more favorably received.
The first sentence of the review...
No getting around it: This review will soon be inaccurate.
1up
Nuff said.
I wouldnt worry but this game wont get good scores because it's still to buggy, when the patches are in it will go from a 7 to 9 but obviously reviews cant be changedbigLLL
They said at the bottom they would update it apparently :s.
No getting around it: This review will soon be inaccurate. That's what happens when a game goes through the kind of launch that SOCOM: Confrontation just had, with tens of thousands of would-be players simultaneously discovering that the servers allocated for the launch of this online-only game were woefully inadequate.
they should just wait like IGN and GS
