halo 2 was, there was matchmaking and a party system. It also had a good clan system/friends system too. H2 actually had a skill gap ( suprisingly )
For competitive gaming H2 was saved by the button glitches. BXR, Double Shot/Quad Shot, and BXB required some time to actually perfect and learn. Also these combos were a risk because if one screws up trying to do the combo, they will most likely die. H2 did require skill despite the amounts of autoaim and hitbox problems. Bungie accidently made the game more skillful again with combos. Remember in the first halo game, bungie accidentally made the pistol a lot stronger. The pistol required 3 perfect Headshots for a kill ( something like 1.5 seconds ). But it was extremely hard to get 3 perfect headshots, most ppl killed in 6 or more shots. So bungie accidentally made both games more skillful than what they should be. And thats where halo 3 is at now, bungie eliminated most of the skillful aspects of the last 2 games ( skillful starting weapon, button combos ). H3 has a smaller skill gap than H2 and H1, in H3 a player is either bad, average, or good. H3 needs the most teamwork out of the 3 halo games. its hard to be consistent in H3 when the br spread is really random. But still there are only a handful of games that require some skill on xbox 360or consoles and one of the games is H3
