I don't know why SW gets hyped all over hardware sales - they matter, yes, but not as much as software sales.

This is why the Wii is not going to get much better third party support, while it is selling a trillion consoles a month, the software sales for third parties is bad (just as it is with the DS). With only a few exceptions - and the exceptions are bad games (Red Steel).

The Xbox 360 on the other hand, has kind of flopped hardware-sales wise, and plain out has flopped in Japan. Yet it still has 10 1+ million sellers software wise - almost twice as much as the original Xbox and almost all third party. This is why developers are putting their games on the Xbox 360 - Devil May Cry 4, Assassin's Creed, Virtua Fighter 5, Mercenaries 2, etc. etc. You'll never see these games on the Wii cause third party games don't sell great on Nintendo platforms.

I like Nintendo games just hate the Wii and Nintendo (with the exception of Shigeru and subsidiaries such as Retro Studios).

Yeah I've yet to see him talk about a single positive thing about Nintendo. I think you should just get over Nintendo and move on, it's causing the rest of us who do enjoy what Nintendo is offering a headache.

Actually, it has been reported that wii has an average attach ratio of slightly more than 4 games per console sold. Pretty impressive if you ask me. Don't ask me for the link, but I'm sure someone else has heard about this too.

Most of these are first party games though, and does it include Wii Sports? Some third party games are selling quite well but mostly due to massive hype (like Red Steel).

So only bad third party games will sell on the Wii?

I tend to agree. I see a lot of Wii supporters make a lot of noise about how console sales will cause third-parties to flock to the Wii, when really they're going to be looking at how much the software sells.

And I haven't created a topic in over a week... it's just that I am very mad at Nintendo for trying to destroy the gaming industry.

If Nintendo had released a $400-$500 console on the same graphical level as the 360/PS3 then the gaming industry would have a problem, we hardcore gamers aren't the only gamers in this market after all. You should welcome the fact that Nintendo is trying to add diversity with in regards to products and pricing instead of attacking them for not catering to the hardcore gamer.

Remember, if the console doens't suit your needs as a gamer, then don't spend the money on it. In the capitalist world, you vote with your dollars.

With the lower development costs, you really don't have to sell as many copies to recoup the game's budget and start making profit. The Wii and Playstation 3 are just underway and once we get through this upcoming holiday season I'm pretty sure software sales for both will pick up.

No, they won't. Not in the first year. First year sales are always biased towards first party games, and more than that, third parties realize that none of their fellows have been able to release anything substantial on the Wii yet. EA, Ubisoft, Rockstar, etc., all know that they missed the boat. This fact combined with the Wii's massive installed base and the relatively low cost and thus low risk of Wii development encourages third parties to at least give it a chance. If third party sales remain disappointing by the end of next summer, though, then they may start to jump off.

I'm sure it varies from developer to developer, but to me it seems like Madden and Tiger Woods were pretty much on par for what EA usually delivers in terms of sports games.  I don't see why they wouldn't use those games to help determine their future development plans for the Wii.

The PSP's have been good or better for its entire lifetime.  Which is why it still gets a steady stream of quality third-party game, despite monster sales of the DS.

AHUGECAT

Dude... Seriously... WHAT SOFTWARE DOES THE WII HAVE THAT CAN SELL GOOD ?!?!.. of course software doesn't sell well, CAUSE THE GAMES SUCK. Their ports... ports with crappy tacked on controls.... Stop complaining. Software sales will pick up whether you like it or not.

Good point... They must have sold well... I mean just a month or two ago EA reported that they were making a 10+ games for the Wii this year...

Well Nintendo is trying to reach out to non-gamers - and as evidenced by their recenting conference, they are focusing on crap like Brain Age than real games like Metroid Prime 3, Brawl and Galaxy. If more games like MySims are made, then the industry will die.

[QUOTE="Teufelhuhn"]I tend to agree. I see a lot of Wii supporters make a lot of noise about how console sales will cause third-parties to flock to the Wii, when really they're going to be looking at how much the software sells. GundamGuy0

No, they won't. Not in the first year. First year sales are always biased towards first party games, and more than that, third parties realize that none of their fellows have been able to release anything substantial on the Wii yet. EA, Ubisoft, Rockstar, etc., all know that they missed the boat.

Good point... They must have sold well... I mean just a month or two ago EA reported that they were making a 10+ games for the Wii this year...

Well...EA also did complain about how Tiger Woods sold lower than expected due to first-party games...but as always actions speak louder than words.

Last time I checked the Ratio was very close to that of 360 and above that of PS3..... Or at least thats what I saw some time ago. Many Potential 3rd party games have been annouced to be in developement on the console this year and probably more will come......... How is this a bad thing with a console on...... How many months has it been out again? Specially in comparison to past Nintendo consoles...

Wait... you're one of the biggest ninty-bashers on the forum, yet you have a SSBB avatar? >_>PannicAtack
because you can still like smash brothers and be down on nintendo.  Super Smash Bros is one of my favorite games.  I still play it on my 64 and gamecube.  However, I want NOTHING to do with the wii.  Its making gaming too casual.

AHUGECAT

Well Nintendo is trying to reach out to non-gamers - and as evidenced by their recenting conference, they are focusing on crap like Brain Age than real games like Metroid Prime 3, Brawl and Galaxy. If more games like MySims are made, then the industry will die.

Like I said, it's up to you to buy the games and system you want to buy. If you don't feel the system caters to your needs or tastes then don't buy it. If no one buys the epic games then there never really was a market for them in the first place right? And if people do buy them then there is no reason for developers to stop making them.

EA doesn't sound like it's disappointed at all in the Wii version's performance:

"Since its launch in August, Madden NFL 07 has had a record-breaking season, with first week retail sales of more than two million copies.

In November, Madden NFL 07 launched on the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the Nintendo Wii. Innovative use of the Wii Remote created a whole new experience and made Madden NFL 07 one of the most innovative and popular games on the Wii. Madden NFL 07 is also one of the top titles on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system. In the first week on that system, players unlocked more than 600,000 achievements and recorded more than two million hours of online game play on Xbox Live."

From their official press release when they boasted about Madden NFL 07 selling 5 million across all systems. It was even mentioned over the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

The attach ratio is actually a lot higher for the Wii than for the 360 if you look only at Europe and the USA. The Japanese are only buying like three games per Wii, but in the US and Europe the numbers 6.1 and 5.6 games per Wii.

Yeah, I also heard that its attach ratio in Japan was something in the lines of 3.? tho I'm not certain... I wonder how the competition is doing in Japan as well, in terms of their ratio.

So... you WANT crap to sell, is that what you're saying?

Of course third party games aren't selling wonderfully right now, they're all cash-ins...
